my freind and i were playing on legendary on the flood and it took forever. (idk if it was the flood but you had to kill the computer) And at the very end my friend and i were like "CRAP!!!" we have to go through that again!!! and so my freind started running while i'm wasting ammo on ugly crapheads. and i'm like "TEAMWORK MAN, TEAMWORK!!!" and he says "SCREW TEAMWORK I'M GETTIN OUT OF HERE" i laughed so hard. and that last mission took us a couple of tries on legendary.

Baisicly the flood are little virus's that take over other bodey's (like a virus takes over a cell to make it reproduce) Same concept with the flood the little virus takes over the body's nervous system thus pushing the real owners thoughts to the back of its brain to make it think that they are "one" even if you destroy a flood cavity the host's body can not be reclaimed because the nervous system was destroyed.

no. originally the humans where fighting against the every alien. in halo 2 the elites were stripped of there ranks and thrown out of the military by the brutes. Arbiter was one to suffer this fate and he allied himself and the rest of the elites still alive (either killed by flood or covenant) to the UNSC. arbiter and masterchief go and wipe out the flood on and kill 1 gravemind and the flood on that halo. but there are doezens more and most likely 1 gravemind on each halo

basically gravemind was partially destroyed on the mission "cortana" then on the LAST mission we're told high charity is trying to rebuild itself on the halo ring itself. what this mission is about is firing the ring, which, rather than killing every sentient being in the galaxy as its meant to, is a premature firing which destroys the ring itself, killing all flood on it, and destroying gravemind, ensuring the flood does not return
