No offense taken. In fact, I find these criticisms helpful. My intent was draw him arching back with the chest projecting outwards, making his head appear smaller. I acknowledge your and others observation and I do agree in part that the head is slightly disproportional to the rest of the body.

I used Photoshop. GIMP is a free alternative and shares many of Photoshop's capabilities. Though it is not a complete substitute, I would definitely recommend it to casual users. Also try paint(dot)net and sumopaint(dot)com/web (web based).
