this is the worst game docu i ever seen. what a joke.

  • shoo manginas and feminists! gtfo from my games!

Whats most ridiculous about their arguments is that none of these morons ever played anything more violent then tetris. Their arguments are completely baseless... they just pull something out of their ass and make it look like a fact with no proof whatsoever. I can make a counter claim that all my friends (me included) who played video games now make a ton of money as software engineers, those who didnt are jobless psycho majors..disprove that!

  • These comments are retarded,i use to play violent games,i found that games eats up a big chunk of your life, and kills creativity, all these kids sitting around playing games without exercise are the one's who will suffer with obesity, and social problems,i find gamers are very quirky!,i don't think they have any real sense of reality, except in video games,it is another form of programming, violent programming!,a violence addiction, some of these games has placed Arabs as being terrorists?

  • @Superpureeliteful

So I'll suffer from obeasaty if I play just dance 3 for an hour dailey?

  • @RioluTheShiny No those physical games are OK,Nintendo have a good name,i have nothing against Mario or sonic the Hedgehog, those were the games i played as a kid,i am talking about the violent addictive games that program young peoples minds to think that Muslims or certain countries are terrorists,i would not be surprised that Zionists are funding these Game corporations, since nearly every army game now has a Taliban opposition, there is a biased political hatred behind these Games..Brainwashing

  • @Superpureeliteful which army games are you talking about? because the only game that featured Taliban I can think of is last year's Medal of Honor reboot. and there was so much complaining from people that EA change their name to "opposing force" so what game's are you talking about? and NO there are no Taliban in Modern Warfare.

  • @Superpureeliteful that depends on the PERSON. from what you said it seems you just had a lack of self control. not all gamers are like that.

  • OMFG SHUT THE FUCK UP NO ONE CARES

  • Comment removed

  • This is bullshit...women ARE objects. Videogames doesn't lead to violence.

  • I treat these guys with the same scorn I give the Pokemon Preacher who says that Pokemon is a gateway drug into Satanism. Except these people are on the left but seem to be in favor of a more authoritarian socialism with heavy government regulation of the media. Is there stuff that can be improved? By Jove there is! Like the portrayal of women and the lack of racial, religious, sexual, and gender diversity. But if you force the government to enforce this, you're opening up a can of worms.

  • JAR FOOOL LEE LEE LEE LEE

  • dummys its a stinking game it is not real

  • You don't kill for fun. What a load of shit. If you can't distinguish the real world from video games, you shouldn't be playing them in the first place.

  • That short haired woman in the end, and near the beginning makes a few okay points, but everyone else, in my opinion, doesn't really know what they're talking about.

  • 2 words. Bull Shit!

  • we just got stupid parents that wont whoop they kids when they do bad stuff

    THAT'LL SET YOUR CHILDREN RIGHT!!!!!

  • FACT I have played video games all my life and I have never started a fight, I am not violent by any means. Video games have taught me that persistance and practice can equal success, I thankyou video games for being progresscive to my devlopment as a person

  • i get it. many dimwits commenting on this video don't get it but i do. the game developers are people who are not socially aware of sexism, racism, or the reality of violence.

  • Was this video made before ESRB ratings were invented? Aren't violent video games rated M 17+ for a reason? Its not mine, the games or the company that makes them's fault if parents don't care what their kids play. Responsibility lies with them and their decisions. Those kids see the same thing on television and no one is just dying to censor that!

  • @biscutsforbreakfast this was made in 2000, the ESRB had been around for 6 years by that point!

  • i loled irl

  • 2:55-5:03 Yup, sounds like a Republican

  • @kingofthesharks Strange because the MEF was started by a socialist, Sutt Jhally. Though he doesn't speak for me. They're more authoritarian socialists while I'm much more libertarian about these things than they are. (Though I only consider myself a social democrat because I can't see capitalism ever going away in this globalized age, though it's surely a failure in its current mostly laissez-faire state.)

  • props to Syphon Filter at the beginning

  • Put a quarter into Donkey Kong and you try to shoot everyone on the screen? BS!!

  • Do violent video games make me want to kill people? Yeah, but after I kill them I feel better.

  • I don't see that I'm sorry I just can't picture that. Where do people get this crap from.

  • @alexinsl4 For money... Why did they put a warning label on my Black finger nail polish... Why does people jump infront of traffic. It's all about the Dough. Either that or were becoming like that show Idiocracy. I hope not.

  • they think the games back then were goody goody pac man... you eat ghosts= violence mario you jump on goombas and then they die whats that kids.... VIOLENCE yeah you guys are smart the reacherchers are dumb as fuck

  • BAN GAMES! BAN MOVIES! BAN MUSIC! BAN ALL FORMS OF ENTERTAINMENT! games don't make us want to kill people.. its this kinda of stupidity that does.

  • This video is very thought provoking. It does not argue that video games are bad, but that shooter video games teach dehumanization and that the portrayal of women leads to a skewed image of women. The arguments are compelling, while the counterarguments seem to be less thoughtful and more reactive. A deeper discussion of a more positive paradigm of video games (they do see it possible) would be welcome, though.

  • @sitwithabook Sorry to burst your bubble but there is no causal link between playing video games, shooting pixels and models on a screen, and killing a real life human being. If the person playing cannot discern the difference between fantasy and real life than the issue is with that individual, not with the medium.

  • @MysteriousAya There is plenty of evidence that media can dehumanize. That does not mean that someone plays a shoot-em-up game and then goes on a rampage, nor will someone who reads a single issue of Playboy become a rapist. Media, though, influences us. I thought the movie thought provoking, especially the history on the military's use of targets from WWII on. Like all media, video games can influence us in positive ways, which I'd like to hear more about, too.

  • @sitwithabook the thing is, they act like ALL video games are like this. which isn't true. like the Marine guy saying that there isn't a single game in the world where you don't shoot people.

  • I played Mario the other day, now I thirst for blood.

  • @globalchaos1984 Mario is super violent game bro! And did you notice the ultimate level of misogyny there?? Like how man has to rescue a woman princess.. thats unspeakable!

  • By the way if these people were in Grand Theft Auto IV as pedestrians. And once you kill them they are gone forever, I'd so put these people out of their misery as they serve no purpose to society.

  • These people are incompetent. Saying video games make you violent. This is bullshit.

Violent video games let me get my anger out and calm me down. If it makes me violent then hell must have froze over.

  • Volent Video games makes Violent people calm down. since i started playing COD and shooting my opponents it's like a stress relief for me...

  • Why is there a need to allow such video game to be targeted to our young generation. Do you know the impact that this type of video will influence our children. Of all the positive things that we can use to promote safety, education, or family oriented, we chose violence. American popular culture is this what it means, jump on the bandwagon.

  • @phreshhbewh94xX well they are rated M for Mature for a reason...

  • Basically, what they say (in a lot more and more difficult words) is this: When you're already screwed up in real life, games could push you over the edge. What they fail to mention is that drugs, alcohol, heck even 'friends' or just not having your day, could do the exact same thing. Well whoop dee doo, as if we didn't know that already. >.>

  • GTA IV taught me I could use my cell phone to spawn weapons and military helicopters and heal bullet wounds.

  • Young kids are certainly influenced by violent games, but if game ratings are followed then kids don't play the excessively violent ones and this isn't much of an issue. The problem is more bad parenting than the games themselves. Ratings exist for a reason...

  • @nate5709 I think parents are an easy target these days. Whats to stop little jimmy from going over a friends house where they can still have these types of games? That or being at schools where kids can have portable systems to share? Course we can say "jimmy must come straight home", but then people can say "you don't let Jimmy live a little". Good parents can only do so much. Not to mention that kids get rebellious later on.

  • i like how fucking biased this documentary is

  • @SoulSilverOverload lol awesome

  • total bullshit...cant say anything else

  • Starcraft taught me how to be a space general. All Tremble. HWA HWA HWA

  • @paradoarify

Dude! Duck Hunt taught me to violently but fruitlessly try to shoot dogs that laugh at me!!

Unfortunately for Sparky, our neighbor's dog, Duck Hunt taught me wrong.

  • at 5:20 it shows half life 1 and killing a scientist in the game YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO DO THAT THEY HELP YOU THERE

  • lol bunch of idiots

  • This video seems pretty dated. There are no examples from non-violent video games nor modern game systems. I think the controversy and climate about video games has died down since the 90's, which this looks like it's from.

I would hope that most of the culture realizes that video games are here to stay and that there is no correlation between them and real world violence.

  • @WarriorBoy Doom was the first FPS ever, so yes its very dated

  • @Leperkaun FAIL (doom wasnt the first one)

  • @chaos300fgx yea yea yea. realized that later into my project on this shit. but it was the first decent one that really got any recognition, which is why rather than researching it before making a comment i just assumed it was first, so yes i fail congratulations hahaha

  • @WarriorBoy no, its only gonna get worse. people are going to blame videogames alot now. parents are now teaching our kids we can sue for anything and not take any responsibility

  • BULL! BULL I SAY!!!

  • I suppose it's time for gamers to actually study games and not these people who are indeed smart but have NO idea what video games are. Did I just listen to people claiming that video games train our children to enjoy killing? Dear god, man.

Not all video games are alike. This is one thing researches have to drill into their skulls.

  • This shit is so outdated. Marine corp uses Doom to train its soldiers? Hah!

  • araaagghhh. it's people like this that make kids violent, not games. this is the biggest load of crap i've ever heard in a long time. violence in games doesn't make kids violent. ever see that episode of pen and teller's bullshit that's about violence in video games? great episode. also, what about games that aren't even violent. yeah, games like tetris, katamari, and kirby are going to make me drop boxes on people, roll around piles of shit, and swallow animals in one breath. yeah. this is crap

  • They are not saying violent games make kids violent. They are actually saying violent game teaches kids violent behaviors.

That is inarguable. It's the Bobo doll experiment.

IT is proven fact that humans can learn from observation, ESPECIALLY if there is reinforcement and availability to carry out the act.

By playing these games you learn new behaviors and exercise it. Just like if you were watching a violent movie and were to act it out.

With that said, I'm off to play CS.

  • or perhaps humans are innately violent by nature.

  • Violence is one of innate traits humans have because it is a necessary trait if we are to defend ourselves physically.

Every living thing has certain level of "violence." The point of this video is that violence in media, specifically in video games, can misguide children to misuse that innate trait that we have.

So yea we are innately violent like any other living beings. We as humans are also too smart for our own good and can get influenced and harmed by our own inventions.

  • @RBlack999 the point of this video is unclear. I am not sure what are they trying to propagate here: feminism or anti-violence? Women aren't treated like objects in video games, that is completely baseless argument. They are treated way better then in real life tbh. Play any modern MMO/RPG and you will see female badass leaders & warriors all around there. How many you see in real life? As for the violence, if kid has mental problems dont blame the games, blame his parents. Thnx.

  • I've always been skeptical about how much Doom was really used by the military.

  • I'm with Freud. People have aggressive urges that don't go away on their own. This comes out in games, which is one of the best ways it can come out. Other side of the coin, it must be done with awareness and responsibility so gameplay stays in the living room. Have something else to do, books to read, because playtime expands to fill free time. Don't always play Doom when you're bored. Play only when you're in the mood for it. Don't be immersed in game all the time.

  • To sum this up in 5 words, what a load of bollocks. There are only 2 things responsible for violent children. 1. their parents and 2. biology. Personaly I believe its mainley their parents but Im sure some people do have conditions. Games dont make you kill or be violent at all. Its like saying guns kill people and not the person holding it. If parents have raised kids to accept the difference between real life and games there isnt going to be an issue.

  • these people are crazy :/ japanese games are much more violent than american games and they have few violent crimes

  • not very long ago a kid in germany did some school-shooting and they blamed the games on his room. while he went with his father to a shooting range, where he got trained in using fire-arms and his father keeping a few guns at home where he had acces too. but nooooo they blame a game. why dont they then just forbid every movie and game like rambo or terminator. it'll be just like Germany in 40-45. i think those people are pathetic elderly people who like the world better as it used to be.

  • POW! HA HA!

  • Violent crime has been decreasing every year, while video games are getting more violence. Therefore violent games reduce violent crime.

Who wants to look like someone from a video game? Anyone? I thought not.

Do you need safeguards if the only things you shoot are animals, monsters, aliens, and robots?

  • There is no conclusive evidence between violence and children. scientis say that last year.

  • yes, because tetris is the most violent game ever man! MUST! KILL! LINES! seriously though, if it rewards you for killing people and kids believe that it carries over to real life than it isn't the game that's the problem, it's the parents for not helping the child figure out how to differentiate reality from fantasy!

  • @EvilElite99 Exactly my view, games at the most give them something to mimic. Its the parents that havent raised their kids correctly thats the problem. The kids would have killed people anyway, its just that they have played a game and mimiced that way that people blame it on the game. I play plenty of violent games but im the most un-violent person because I have always knew games arent real life and yu dont hurt other people. Thats because I was raised properly. Playing games hasnt changed me

  • mario kart made my sister run over

55 people and smasht 2 pilice cars and 5 others.

    pleas

  • What a load of Bullshit!!! If anything violence encourages computer games! People killed way before computer games came out.

"Tetris made me want to drop bricks on peoples heads"

  • lol that last one you should send to a news station they will probably believe you and want an interview.

  • Biased bullshit

  • haha this video is complete BULLLLSHIT

  • jack thompson payd them all to sey those things

  • this video is onesided and only say there bad and only bad

  • Absolutely no evidence was presented that any of the people speaking in this video had any authority on the subject they were talking about.

  • I loled so hard at "The Marine core uses the game 'Doom'."

This documentary in a nutshell: ZOMG! LEIK TEH VIDOO GAYMES MAKE PEOPLE BUY A GUN AND KILL!! NEVERMIND TEH FACT DAT THE ONZ HOO DID PROBLY COODNT TELL REAL LIFE FROM TEH VIDOO GAMZ!

*shudder* I feel so stupid typing that.

  • I cannot even start to explain how stupid all this kliing simulation sh*t is.

What about cars... how many people dies in traffic accidents every day. Should we ban cars... And what about alchohol..... If there really was a such a big violence problem i doubt that Videogames would be such a big part of it.

  • For those that commit violet crime - inspired or influenced by video games - it is most likely due to their lack of distinction between reality and fiction. If you don't have a firm grasp of reality, you are more inclined to act out violent fantasies outside the realm of the video game. I also agree that video games are paramount in training the 'future soldier' from a young age.

  • no this is bullshit most of these people never even played violent games I have played em for years and I have never done violence in my life.

  • I'd love to debate with these people. I have a lot to say, but youtube only allows 500 characters!

  • Bill Clinton used to play Leisure Suit Larry. Think about it.

  • I think this is great preparation for our future soldiers.

  • This video is making me violent

  • screw this i cant belive they think a 3 year old playing halo3 is going to buy a gun on the black market and then go kill old ladys and hoes what the hell are you thinking about! plus vidoe games arnt the only thing to woory about dont worry about vidoe games it a game worry about THE TERIST!

  • I am on the complete opposite side of this argument, and when I see something like this, I just want to take a chainsaw to all of them, maybe a little plasma rifle too....

But seriously, I've played extremely violent games since I was 4, and it has had no effect on me. I do agree, there are sick people who have played violent games and who have also murdered people, but the games are not what led them to that.

  • Clearly none of these reporters have played Puzzle games, Adventure games, Racing games, Sim Games, Civilization Games..... its a bit sad how lopsided this felt to watch. I'm particularly found of point and click adventures, those aren't violent...

  • Videogames are just an easy target to blame for children and people being violent.

  • Isn't alway the old fogies who've never played games that are the ones to moan about violence in VGs? Bet Hitler wouldn't bothered with the whole Third Reich if he'd had a good game of Red Alert or Civilization to play and let his frustrations out on!

  • (CONTD.)

And a game where you can kill, is NOT A MURDER SIMULATOR, There are like no bulletholes, they don't even blow up in GTA

In Mario you kill turtles. Wtf? Imma kill animals now why don't htey talk about that

  • Wow, okay these people are dumb:

Wow and hour and a half! :O

Okay, I play GTA, TF2, Metal Gear, etc. And I am NOT going to get a gun, hijack a car, and go kill everyone I see because I KNOW there will be consequences. I WILL go to prison for life because I committed murder.

And I seriously doubt the USMC uses Doom to practice, you use a frickin' controller, or keyboard.AND I know I can't lose the cops in 5 minutes

  • this people don't know a fucking shit.

  • In America, guns are legal and gun crime is rife. In Britain, knife crime is at it's worse. All down to video games? Bullshit!

Games = another scapegoat. Nothing new atall.

  • they're just mad because they have nothing to do but masturbate and bitch about violence in video games. I'm 14 years old and i play all m rated games and not once in my life have i thought about killing somebody. Peoplewho protest video gamesthis piss me off

  • i think society might be more of a factor than games

  • @Servantbass I don't think they would disagree. The majority of the opposition arguments in the comments are strawmen. Nobody is saying that video games are the key factor. More that they are one small but significant part in a wider culture that promotes racism, misogyny and violence. That the true nature of the powers that increasingly define the world are laid bare within these games.

  • Comment removed

  • @DARTHPIZZAROLL Well your obviously living in a cave if you don't think racism is an issue anymore. The London riots ring any bells. Whilst that escalated into more a class issue the roots of it were based on the sentiment that the police are racist, that black youngsters feel victimised by the police through stop and search methods.

  • @Gunt78 right, I REALLY need to get out my cave.

  • @DARTHPIZZAROLL Lack of content duly noted.

  • ugh...for once i wanna see a gamer doing a news report about how much of what these peaple are talking about is complete and utter BULLSHIT!

  • one word only one word....bullshit!

  • One word: BULLSHIT.

According to this video, all the videogame players are bunch of people with bad self-steems, sick and pervertic monsters who are only waiting for the moment to snap and would play videogames just because of the violence.

    WHAT.A.LOAD.

Why media thinks this of players and videogames is that there's no single videogamer among those "experts", noone who would had closer contact with videogames, instead of just watching them and saying: "Woah, this is bad."

  • Kids that dont have enough attention from parents and spend to much time become the child of their main influence: video games, these become the teacher that instill the values or lack there of in the child.

Books,Comics, movies, advertisements, dramas influence people anyone who doesnt know this is an idiot and need to not be so arrogant and emotional about defending such just because they like it.

  • Do you see video game player start masscare around their own home town?

  • lol, they talk about games having only one dimensional characters, that are stereotypically overly masculine, then they show a clip from Half-life, In which the protagonist is a skinny, nerdy, Physicist. I love the irony of a poorly researched documentary.

  • games are a view of the world...sort of...you can't live without death...and they are so fucking lame, they're mind is puny...they can't think enough...you can't judge someone/something before seeing or experience it yourself or investigate...they should consider that money is corruption...and that is something what we don't want in this world...right

  • 1 word. Bull

  • @JAWZxz No, two words, BULLSHIT.

  • I understand the concern of violence in videogames but, not all games that feature violence are violent. Example- Metal Gear Solid gives you the choice to kill, but you can complete the game without killing anyone.Check at the games in the video and you won't find any examples like this.

  • Lol this is completely laugherble, if they need to look for the root of where children are getting violent from, they should try and check out the parents or who the children are socialise with,

  • this video is clearly at least 5 years old. and since then, society (besides Jack Thompson) has generally accepted the fact that violent videogames DO NOT harm people. the violent people who did play those games did it just by coincidence.

  • totally propaganda

  • one word: propaganda

  • videogames are just like films... stop you guys, you're embarassing. you know the ancient greek havd invented TRAGEDY e theatre rapresentation where a mother often kill a son, or where a son kill a father. you know that?aristotele wrote about the CATARTIC role of the violence in theatre as a way to exorcise fear and to control domestic violence.. you knew that you ignorant??

  • 1:34 = Dike

Hour and a half a day? I play a lot more than that and I don't feel like killing people.

2:28, don't pick on Astaroth faggots.

  • These people are dumb

  • For the record, Tetris is a video game too, i haven't seen the blue square shooting the red 'L' recently..

  • Lol!!!

  • yeah i like only those killing games where i can kill zombies, mutants, monsters, every piece of shit that's not a human, i don't think that's right to kill people even if that's only a game!

  • This is religious propaganda, ignore it.

  • i know of guys who have never played a game and are still agressive, so nice cop out people.

Also, i've been playing some of those games for many years and actually i've never been compelled to go out and hurt or kill someone, i'd be sick at the thought of even contemplating such an action.

I hate violence in real life, but a little bit in games isn't a problem, besides, we've had violent cartoons, and movies for decades now, and did they cause violent behaviour?, of course not

  • uhh.... yeah we shot ppl because of games!do you think were THAT stupid! if so it is not us who are stupid! its you damm reporters! and other ppl who agree with this whole games are evil!

  • they use doom?! whaaaaaaaaaat?

  • lt. col boss-eyed, talks from his ass.

Doom was never used by the marine core to teach "battle field tactics"

this is stupid, of course some children will be atracted to the violence, but thats why games are rated, it is down to a parent what content they allow their children to consume,if a child has been bought up with decent morals of right and wrong, and not raised by some hick who shoots at aligators, then, its all down to discression.

  • Actually, this clip had a point. You have kids out there who are anti-social - who are also neglected by their parents. Putting a kid behind any type of media wether it be video games or TV shows / movies as their "babysitter" could be detrimental to a kid's psychi regarding fantasy & reality.

  • Nobody want's to hear your shit Groovefag.

  • When the accuser accuses others for being fags. It usually turns out the accuser is in-the-closet. I have nothing against you for being in-the-closet. If you need to get something off your chest (lack thereof) i'd be happy to help you :)

  • Listen, just take these games as a joke. Plus, wtf up with the human being crap. That looked like a zombie thankyou.

  • You got a point there. But still, if video games should made people more violence, in that case they would have been running around in yellow suits and tried to eat ghost becuse they played pac man. :P

  • Columbine, VA Tech, ect...

These were caused by....wait for it....

SOCIO PATHS! Not a fucking game.

Btw, the US NEVER USED DOOM FOR TRAINING. He must be talking about "Battle Space". A full battle field simulator.

  • YEAH! EXACTLY

  • now your blaming males

  • No they don't

  • This broadcast looks like it was done right after Collumbine. since all the games they showed are from the late 90s (Goldeneye, Syphon Filter, Resident Evil etc

  • This broadcast looks like it was done right after Collumbine. since all the games they showed are from the late 90s (Goldeneye, Syphon

  • Did that have WWF as a reason for why video games are steriotyping people? Brilliant

  • I'm gonna play some Street Fighter now

    *2 hours later*

I wanna throw a fireball at someone, dammit!

  • ...

Geez, people killed one another since they learned to walk straight, new technology brings just new ways of doing so. And the funny thing is that all those words (said in the video) were coming from an ex-soldier in a country where all can freely posses a WEAPON! As the saying goes - an opportunity makes a thief. So, sure, I agree that children are more prone to violence and games don't help the fact...as does the notion that their dad has a magnum in the closet...

  • Wow, that video makes me think...

Now I am positive that Nero, Hitler and Hannibal Lecter must have played Doom! This proves beyond all doubt that aliens do exist and meddled with humankind from the very beginning...they all had to posses video games! Or else how on earth would they know what violence is??...

  • True...

This is all bullshit, we were much more violent in ages past, long before we ever had videogames...

A bad person is born, not made...

  • True that, this is just an poor excuse to attack organized entertainment.

  • When i was 5 years old i always played Doom. In fact i played a lot of shooters. Why. because its fun to have a break from real life man. if you go out and shoot someone in the head because you have played a game..... then i dooooont think that its the game theres something wrong with. How about the parents just try to teach their kids to behave properbly. ^^;

  • "Do violent video games make for violent kids?" No. There's no conclusive proof to show that violent video games causes violence in RL... in fact, the studies are so wild in their conclusions that one study even believed that Mr. Rogers caused violence in children! Hard to believe, but that's what some studies say.

The truth is, violence in entertainment has been around since ever. Just look at myths and folkore all over the world and you'll see killing and destruction in many of them.

  • Oh and of course Adolf Hitler became who he was from playing DOOM six hours a day.

  • I have been playing doom for years now and I dont think violence is always the answer and I sure as hell couldnt kill someone.

  • Whats the point in worrying about video games? I'v know since like before I started playing video games that if you shoot a guy in the head his head will expload. Video games have no effect on me in fact they have made me better at sports because I have awsome reaction times now.

  • wow the video game industry is one of the least scrutinized!?

after reading that to the right of the video of watching it, i knew right there that this video would be propaganda bullshit

  • Everyone talking in this video thinks that they know all about videogames but i bet they have never played a videogame in their lives

  • That David Grossman guy is an idiot because there where violent videogames before the marines used them.

  • That David Grossman guy is an idiot because there where violent videogames before the marines used them.

  • its like saying ms. pacman is pornagraphic becuase shes eating white stuff.

  • man cant wait till gta4 comes out

  • Pfft, please, I know people who've never played a violent video game in their life and say they want to choke the life out of someone. Any 10 year old with half a brain can tell you they know it's fake. If people don't want video game companies making ultra-violent video games, then stop buying them. They'll catch the hint eventually. They're just responding to the market, and, quite frankly, God of War is one of the most badass games ever and I will play it as much as I damn well please, tyvm.

  • i think you missed the point. nobody is saying that we think video games are real, so it causes violence...but there are corrolations, and they are significant. we're shaped by a lot of things, and when you're 8 years old and play 6 hours of, say, GTA per day, it's going to have effects on you. not saying it's going to "cause" a kid to "be violent" but there are certain psychological factors that are affected by video games.

  • I'm guessing that kids also become race car drivers from playing GT, or Mario Kart? They'll have an anxious craving to go fast and speed through everything.

I'm surprised that video games take a beating while in school kids are required to read Shakespeare's tragedies which are just filled with murder and death. But I guess books are ok because they're "educational."

Get your head out of your ass.

  • If an eight year old is playing GTA, a video game which is clearly rated for 17 and over which he/she would be unable to buy in most states, for 6 hours a day, has a bigger problem of parents who don't give a flying fuck about him and just want to give him his video games so he shuts up and they can go screw in peace. Gimme a break.

  • My favorite: "the marine corps uses the game doom as a training device, its such an effective tactical trainer".

The credibility of the document ended there.

  • oh yeah? google "Marine Corps Modeling and Simulation Management Office" and "Doom"

  • I totally agree with this. There is nothing inevitable about the content of computer games: they are extremely flexible entertainment tools, and we have to start using them for more constructive ends. Check out new stuff like "Spore"... Now, that's a game that's pushing us in the right direction!

  • People say it's idiotic, but it dehumanizes you slowly, even if you want to deny it (really, I do...) and then the media blech that enforces all those stupid social norms of racism, sexism, and hypermasculinity are just amplified by video games. Like I once read, video games are the ultimate teaching tool of violence. Read some studies before you discredit something, and actually think about how you act, getting all defensive and angry - You're just proving them right, lol.

  • @ FFlove190

Your words do not help. You contribute nothing to this. Go away, I don't want to catch a bad case of stupid.

  • Man, I should get a job in the Marine Corps. All they do is exercise and play video games all day!

  • I'm taking a first year cultural studies course, and the prof showed the entirety of this shit on the first day of class. It is so full of BS and takes a biased view on things and the prof is buying this shit.

The makers of this video are almost as bad as kevin mccullough.
