A friend videoed something very like this a few weeks ago through an F5 8" Newtonian scope using an astronomical web cam. It was traveling a bit slower than this example.There seem to be a fair few similar videos around on You Tube. It would good to hear a convincing explanation from professional researchers.

Looks like a satellite, maybe an unclassified asteroid. You are using a pretty low power, so the object is very close to earth for you to be able to see it's shape. Satellite of some kind to me then. It would have to be miles in diameter if it were closer to the moon. Would need date, time and your location to verify a satellite.

Once again you're assuming it's in space. Run your finger past the lens. How fast does it appear? How fast is your finger actually going.

Never assume the location of the object just because you see the moon in the frame. It can be ANYWHERE between the observer and the moon, and the apparent speed is dependent upon that.

Weather balloon is a good guess IMO.

The dude posted a legit video... it isnt fake. There would not be a shadow because the light from the moon COMES FROM THE SUN! Cant be a satellite because those would be very small at that distance.

If it was orbitibng the moon then

1) the direction of sunlight would cause the shadow to become much more eliptical in shape

2) If it were close to the moon then there would be some reflected sunlight from the object unless the surface has a unique albedo.

3) If it wasn't close to the surface the apparant size compared to the craters would indicate it to be of enormous size and therefore visible in the field of view of the video (eventually?)

If you look into the sky on a clear night. I garauntee you will spot low orbit sats. They just look like stars but are moving accross the sky. It doesn't appear to follow the Moon's contours to my eye. Satellites in Earth orbit are sometimes in shadow, and are not always lit by the Sun. I think it is too large to be an Earth orbiting satellite. I have seen round objects pass in front of the Moon while observing with a telescope, and once saw a pair of different sizes. My guess is that they are simply balloons - either party balloons that got away, or weather balloons.

Several things don't add up right to be a *satellite*. 1) The shadow follows the contours of the surface of the moon, therefor its not in earth orbit. 2) No *satellite* in orbit around the moon at present could make a shadow of that size. 3) We do not see a very bright point of light cross the feild of view either, we should have seen the sun reflected back at the viewer if its a *satellite* in orbit casting the shadow. a few off the cuff observations.
