Ritalin: Uses, Abuses and Effects

Will ritalin affect my looks as some drugs can?What else can I expect?Doctors prescribe and just don't tell us much,so we have to learn on our own.I'm in my 40's and only use it every few days.I take it to focus on paperwork,letters, and house work. Without it,I can't get out of bed.It helps with consentration,energy,focus,and reduces body pain, making it possible to work a few times a week.Is there a better solution than ritalin?What's your opinion?

I have ADHD and Ive used Ritalin, Concerta and dex amphetamine for it. The one I find works best for me with less unpleasant side effects is Dex amphetamine. Concerta doesnt work well for me and Ritalin has too short a half life.

@bgrimes8533 My 22 yr old son died from his addiction to Ritalin. He was prescribed in the 6th graded. He went to rehab at Memorial PaRC in Houston and after 8 days of detox and 2 weeks of inpatient before they kicked Sean out for not buying in to his addiction. I think PaRC doesn't know enough about Ritalin or amphetamine addiction. Sean died 7 days later in a parking lot of his halfway house. The NIDA states the frontal lobe is damaged from long term use and abuse. Love ya Sean.

The side effects of ritilin are annoying. Either they make you feel self concious/vulnerable 24/7, give you stomach aches, to be more in general you cant socialize like you usually do and your interests go out the window. Anybody who abuses this are pathetic the stuff makes you depressed most of the time

This is wonderful. My son was forced to take Ritalin for over 3 years before I was able to move from South Seneca Central School District. He is 28 years old now and we are still discovering "effects" from it's long term use.

Let me tell you parents: It is easier to fight the schools now then it used to be. DO NOT let them put your child on mind altering substances. They will take a bright, inquisitive child and turn them into a zombie!
