  • aw he's about to cry

  • I'd kill to have the relationship these two have! I guess Carter can finally start a new life after what happened in season 6 and after all those life traumas that followed...best character ever on TV...congrats to the writers for letting him develop lik that and letting us watch!!!!

  • That is ALOT of pee

  • Btw, why the did actor playing Dr Benton leave the show? Or did the writers write him out? I like the Benton-Carter relationship

  • Is it me, or is it weird to heae Benton call Carter "John?" , love them...they're like brothers.

  • in addition to everything everybody else has said -they both have very beautiful hands!:)

  • carter and benton relationship is one of the best relationships on a tv show ever

  • this was a great moment with CARTER and benton

  • In the case of major surgery, it really wouldn't matter that he's an addict. For post-ob pain they would still give fentanyl but they would monitor his doses more carefully and they would make sure that he was weened off of the need for any narcotic before being discharged.

  • on the left i meant...

  • He has a tattoo indeed. An "O" for his son Owen, and something else under that's still unknown, probably for his daughter.

  • @bemyguest80 He also has another: "One night when I was fifteen or sixteen, my friend Harry had a party and he was experimenting -- sticking a needle into a cork and dipping it in India ink. I don't remember this, but apparently I said that I wanted that white stick figure with the halo from the TV show The Saint on my arm. Harry started to do it, and either I came to my senses or fell asleep, one of the two, and I ended up with nine dots instead."

  • @bemyguest80 who has an tattoo?

  • Does he have a tatoo on his right wrist?

  • It's a PCA machine which the patient controls when they need pain medication.

  • thank you ^^

  • what's the thing that benton tells him to press??

  • i think he was addicted to vicodin not fentanyl so that might explain it, not 100% sure tho!

  • He was busted when injecting Fentanyl, before being sent to rehab, but later on he explained that he was injecting fentanyl, morphin, and 'whatever he could get his hands on...'

So he was addicted to any narcotics... nothing specific.

  • in May Day he was shooting up Fentanyl.

  • @Jenny123xoxo Yeah that's an oversight on their part. An opiate is an opiate. Recovery is recovery.

  • @Jenny123xoxo I think you're confusin "E.R." with "House" Dr. House has a Vicodin addiction....

Dr. Carter got addicted to Fentanyl after his stabbing incident.

  • I know this is just a TV show, but did they forget that Carter went to Atlanta to kick a prescription drug habit (for Fentanyl, I believe) after he recovered from his stabbing. And here they are giving him Fentanyl after surgery. Thanks very much for the post!!

  • I don't think they forgot, but they didn't explain a thing about it indeed, which shocked me at first, like you!

I think now that they specifically used Fentanyl to show that Carter is a fully recovered addict, and he doesn't hesitate to get proper pain medication when it's needed, like here after major surgery.

I still wish they had mentioned something explicitly though...

  • I know its a tv show too but..Just to chime in..I had 2 minor kidney surgeries last month and they do give you proper pain medication even if you had a previous problem with pain killers. As long as they are monitored and tapered they can be given.Let me tell you they are needed in real life. I have had 5 surgeries and the kidney was the MOST painful so far.Plus the PCA device is only for recovery so after he would not have access to narcotics like before and post op the rest IS controlled.

  • @bemyguest80 Even a drug addict would be given an opioid pain relief after major surgery because addict or not they still need pain relief. In fact the history of drug addiction/abuse means they would possibly need a higher dose due to having a tolerance for opioids. Receiving fentanyl when in pain would not set off a relapse or start an addiction - only having it when not in pain would.

  • Well they don't want him to get addicted to morphin. And they will gradually take him off the Fentanyl unlike the first time.

  • Former drug habit is not an kontraindication for using the same drug in case of acute pain, as post.op pains.

    (pardon my english;-)

  • That's true but considering he's not allergic to other opioids such as morphine, dilaudid, etc. you'd think they would try to avoid prescribing the same analgesic that he was once addicted to. Opioids aren't contraindicated even when someone was formerly addicted, however physicians tend to be more cautious when dealing with those patients.

  • actually, they are giving him morphine here

  • all this season goes by n when carter comes back he takes up everything, all the praise!

  • What happened with him?

I'm watching season 8 right now. ;DDD

  • As Carter himself keeps repeating this sentence in this episode, it is a long story. You have a long way to go from season 8!!! But you'll like it.

  • Thanks a lot. ^^

  • No worries at all. I could tell you what happened but then I would have spoiled it for you, and that would be a shame. So, I just hope you a good time watching the rest of the series. All the best.

  • Its so great to see them again im currently watching season 2 on TNT and Benton is teaching Carter how to be a doctor lmao.

    its so cute.

i love how benton kinda came back to take care of Carter when Carter didnt really have anybody.

    that shows true friendship!!

    ER is the best!

  • Carter/Benton rule. Best relationship of ER. Of all the people in John's life NOBODY has been there for him the way Benton has. All his life John has had to play second fiddle to other people's problems. Notice how it's been years since these 2 have seen each other. Yet, at the WORST time in Carter's life Benton is there. No hesitation, no questions. He dropped everything to be there for Carter. That's what you call True Friendship.

  • @kathy1977 great post, i agree 100%

  • 800cc's of Liquid GOLD !

  • I Just LOVE this show and i love CARTER .. i haven't missed any episode from season 1 to 15 ..

  • Benton was the man in this episode!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why was is wife not by his side? All the couples are together except them!

  • DUDE, I WATCHED THE EPISODE! and I don't like how the producers are handling their relationship.

  • Actually, she is in Paris.

  • Benton looks good and younger for some reason.

  • @truthfan

hells yes! he is so hot!!!!

  • TruthFan I agree :-) I can't figure out why he looks younger...is it the hair perhaps?

  • I agree the interaction between carter and benton was and is classic. And I knew that benton eventhough tortured carter all those years had a friendship with him that was clearly shown in this episode. I still think the first 4 years of ER were the best.

  • hey, benton called him "john", i didnt notice that before.

benton/carter interaction = best part of ER

  • With all the hype over the Clooney/Marguilies reunion, this was the best of the episode. The student becomes the master. Compare this to the Pilot when Carter was a nervous intern who couldn't even start an IV line, to a man saving refugees' lives in Africa. Benton made who the man that Carter became.

  • @alucard1931 It was so cool how the former ER stars gave importance to the show that helped them get to where they are today. It has been quite some time since I last watched ER, just found out here on youtube that Doug & Carol showed up, then Carter with Benton. :) Remember "Dr. Foreman" of House used to be Benton's student too. Too bad he couldn't take the pressure, he ended his life. :) Carter was just one tough cookie. :)

  • I know, he usually called him Carter,

calling him John was showing how full circle their friendship came.

  • I was so worried that he was going to die. I thought, he's this sick so near to the end of the show...

    I am so relieved!

    I <3 Carter!
