The Core of Islam, as well as many other religions in the world isn't evil, and I wouldn't say it is. It is the people that are corrupted.
There are many extreme Islamists, who convert/threaten people who are not followers of Islam---and yes that is unfortunately the truth, since I have seen it in my own life. That's not to say only Islam followers are sometimes corrupted, so are some , christians, sikhs etc....
