Sales taxes are instruments of tyranny. Historically they are means by which governments avoid taxing landowners all of whom especially the big ones(like owners of center city locations and natural resources like coal and oil)are the recipients of the benefit all government services from local to national confer on land. The best kept secret in economics and public debate is that all public services increase the usefulness and therefore the market value of land. Why should nonlandowners pay?
I support streamlined sales tax as a way to get more revenue to our retail deficient counties where the UPS driver is a primary source of goods. Question - how does the coding system deal with zip codes that cross county & other taxing boundaries? It's a major problem for several areas of the 7th Leg District. --Sue Lani Madsen
