Poor Ridley. I usually like fighting him first in Zero Mission, when you have a lot less resources at your disposal (hell, in my playthrough right now, I got to his lair, and beat him without even the varia suit!), though it does make the fight with Kraid anti-climactic. Fighting him in a 15%-or-less run is pretty tense too, since two hits and you're dead, and if you don't time it right, you're boned.
On Normal Mode: If you have all 12 Super Missiles by this point, you can waste Ridley with at least eight. On Hard: If you have all 6, just plug him with those, and a dozen missiles, and he will die. This is very handy for those who are aiming for a high to 100% run.
For <15% runs, just know the dodging patterns, plug him with missiles, shoot fireballs to reload.
@GYDIAN4019 Actually, she has PTSD due to Ridley murdering her parents when she was a child, although in this game they didn't focus on that; in the manga and the infamous Other M you can see that. Sorry about my english, as it's not my native languaje.

Ridley is probably the funnest boss in the entire series. He's at the end of the game, where you're completely prepared to encounter any boss, and with Ridley, you're allowed to unleash your entire stock of missiles and just spam the hell out of him. It's soooo satisfying.

@MrTrw38 I haven't played other M, but throughout the series, Samus never really shows much emotion (she's a nintendo protagonist after all). So, I agree with you being scared of Ridley is logical, as it's the first time she's developed as a character. have something to add though; in the traditional metroid games, Ridley has no specific weak point, you just fire everything at him. Maybe that signifies how scary it is to face him.
I loved this game. Ridley was fearsome (and a beast on HARD). I loved the short cutscene of Samus though; she looks pissed off and fierce. Why couldn't she have been that fierce in Other M?

The story is pretty awfully written. For instance, Samus had pretty much no point for being there in Other M. Every major plot point was solved without her involvement.
Such as Ridley's eventual demise. Without spoiling much, that would've happened regardless of Samus.

Story isn't bad. Bosses aren't exactly "epic". They're cool, and some are throwbacks (Looking at you Phantoom). I honestly thought that Samus' freak out with Ridley was unwarranted though. I know he's the one who laid waste to her colony, so, I guess it's...ok?
She's killed Ridley once in Metroid, if you consider Metroid Prime to be cannon, there's 2 more times. Another time in Super Metroid. So, 4 times? I think I would almost expect Ridley at that point. I know I did.

She's been through so much shit and fought ridely so many times, it just doesn't make sense at that point. It would, however, make perfect sense in this game since this is supposedly the FIRST time she fights him. The only reason she froze up in that game was because team ninja LOVES their traumatic female leads.
@mootroidXproductions Just because we as fans know that Ridley was finally "killed" in Super Metroid doesn't mean it's the first time Samus thought she killed him. He came back from the dead so to speak many times, and it doesn't make sense after the fourth time or so for Samus to have a sudden mental break-down. It's just a team ninja thing, and I'm sure they had plenty of influence over the game as well as Yoshio Sakamoto as it was developed.
@Sukuraidogai samus has post traumatic stress disorder because ridley killed her mother. so after she defeated him on zebes and then zebes blowing up in super metroid, she thought that she was done with him for good because his remains were caught in the explosion. she had no way to expect him to return on the bottle ship and when she can't keep herself mentally stable, she can't control her suit which starts to deactivate and phase away. sorry just had to get that out there...

The explosion of Zebes is about the fourth time Samus thinks she's killed Ridley, albiet the first time he actually dies. The fact that he actually died there is irrelevant, the important thing is that Samus has been through this "omg he came back to life" thing many, many times before Other M.
@Sukuraidogai there is no way to know if samus actually thinks that she has killed ridley each time they have fought. but assuming that she does would just be ignorant. in prime 1 and 3, ridley just fell out of samus' sight with omega ridley doing who knows what because you don't see him explode or fly away so its unclear. on frigate orpheon ridley just activates and escapes and there is no confrontation with samus. she has time to adjust to it just like when she sees him on norian.
@Sukuraidogai for super metroid, you could say that her initial confrontation with ridley on the space colony would symbolize her inability to act correctly because she doesn't defeat him then and there allowing for, once again, time to adjust. in zero mission, she has met ridley and knows of mother brain if not met her down in zebes. she is expecting ridley at one point or another. of course here is one explanation to why she doesn't freak out... lack of technology to portray it.

@MrMetroid1998 Being in charge doesn't mean all the game's decisions are yours. It was said in interviews that he collaborated with Team Ninja with all aspects of the game, and frankly Samus's character in this game has TEAM NINJA in all caps written all over the place.

I just fought this Ridley for the first time, and I must say I am really disappointed. I was expecting him to be extremely hard, like he was in Super Metroid. I remember the Super Metroid Ridley battle was one of those several hour rides through hell, where you just want to smash your controller against the wall and go on a rampage. The Zero Ridley fight makes you want to go on a rampage caused by the confusion of how you were able to beat him in 10 seconds on your first attempt!

I think the Ridley in Super Metroid is much harder. In this one I defeated him in a few missles and about 2 super missles.
In Super Metroid, I used ALL my super missles and I used almost 100 missles to destroy him.

I can totally understand that Other M has some awesome gameplay, it's just that Samus beat Ridley once on Zebes, again on Tallon IV, then twice in Corruption, and again in Super Metroid.
You'd think she'd be alright with it by now...

@redquoter Well if I fought a couple near death battles with a monster and it appeared out of no where, after I thought I had killed it, in a place similar to where it killed my parents..I'd probably freak out too.

Prime (Owned Ridley there)
Prime 3 (Roflstomped him again)
Super Metroid (Thought to be his final death)
Unless I missed another game he appeared in (not counting SSBB) Samus has kicked his scaly ass 4 times in a row. (Now 5 due to Other M)
Samus should not have flipped out.

@megatroid47 I guess people bash it because canonically she's fought Ridley four times before that. My theory is that all the times before that Samus never killed Ridley but he escaped, but in Super Metroid, Samus finally destroyed Ridley, so his being back was a shocker, considering she believed him to be dead. Makes sense in context.

@JeisonKen Technically, the ridley in Other M was a clone because of all the cloning they did. They were making Bio-weapons and his blood was one of the things that they must have picked up somewhere. Who knows where. He was that little firby looking chicken leg creature. lol It was weird... such a small thing turned into such a big problem... o.O

@blackwingmaster48 Sorry, yeah that's what I mean. Since she killed off Ridley for real in Super Metroid, she was shocked to see the clone of him appear, believing he was dead. I mean, if I had been fighting the monster that killed my parents so much and finally laid him to rest only to have a clone of him strike back, I'd be pretty paralyzed with fear. Other M was a great game with a great story, honest opinion.

To suddenly freak like that is kinda silly don't you think? I would agree with the freezing being an ok solution, considering the guy comes back all the time so it's obviously better to keep him in captivity.

Story isn't bad. Bosses aren't exactly "epic". They're cool, and some are throwbacks (Looking at you Phantoom). I honestly thought that Samus' freak out with Ridley was unwarranted though. I know he's the one who laid waste to her colony, so, I guess it's...ok?
She's killed Ridley once in Metroid, if you consider Metroid Prime to be cannon, there's 2 more times. Another time in Super Metroid. So, 4 times? I think I would almost expect Ridley at that point. I know I did.

@megatroid47 The problem with her freezing up on ridely is that it's the SECOND TO LAST Metroid game chronologically. She's been through so much shit and fought ridely so many times, it just doesn't make sense at that point. It would, however, make perfect sense in this game since this is supposedly the FIRST time she fights him. The only reason she froze up in that game was because team ninja LOVES their traumatic female leads.

@mootroidXproductions Just because we as fans know that Ridley was finally "killed" in Super Metroid doesn't mean it's the first time Samus thought she killed him. He came back from the dead so to speak many times, and it doesn't make sense after the fourth time or so for Samus to have a sudden mental break-down. It's just a team ninja thing, and I'm sure they had plenty of influence over the game as well as Yoshio Sakamoto as it was developed.

@Sukuraidogai samus has post traumatic stress disorder because ridley killed her mother. so after she defeated him on zebes and then zebes blowing up in super metroid, she thought that she was done with him for good because his remains were caught in the explosion. she had no way to expect him to return on the bottle ship and when she can't keep herself mentally stable, she can't control her suit which starts to deactivate and phase away. sorry just had to get that out there...

The explosion of Zebes is about the fourth time Samus thinks she's killed Ridley, albiet the first time he actually dies. The fact that he actually died there is irrelevant, the important thing is that Samus has been through this "omg he came back to life" thing many, many times before Other M.

@Sukuraidogai there is no way to know if samus actually thinks that she has killed ridley each time they have fought. but assuming that she does would just be ignorant. in prime 1 and 3, ridley just fell out of samus' sight with omega ridley doing who knows what because you don't see him explode or fly away so its unclear. on frigate orpheon ridley just activates and escapes and there is no confrontation with samus. she has time to adjust to it just like when she sees him on norian.

@Sukuraidogai for super metroid, you could say that her initial confrontation with ridley on the space colony would symbolize her inability to act correctly because she doesn't defeat him then and there allowing for, once again, time to adjust. in zero mission, she has met ridley and knows of mother brain if not met her down in zebes. she is expecting ridley at one point or another. of course here is one explanation to why she doesn't freak out... lack of technology to portray it.

@MrMetroid1998 Being in charge doesn't mean all the game's decisions are yours. It was said in interviews that he collaborated with Team Ninja with all aspects of the game, and frankly Samus's character in this game has TEAM NINJA in all caps written all over the place.

I just fought this Ridley for the first time, and I must say I am really disappointed. I was expecting him to be extremely hard, like he was in Super Metroid. I remember the Super Metroid Ridley battle was one of those several hour rides through hell, where you just want to smash your controller against the wall and go on a rampage. The Zero Ridley fight makes you want to go on a rampage caused by the confusion of how you were able to beat him in 10 seconds on your first attempt!
