but in first kata I saw just okinawan karate.but at the end I saw kata which is not from karate...it is like tai chi chuan..but just katas are having some kung fu style...but kumite principle is from karate, but it looks like sport kumite..there is not anything from okinawan karate...no kyusho(kick in vital spots on body), there is no TODOME wase (the last technique whicht kills opponent.),so some katas are like okinawan, but in kumite there is no deadly techniques..so what do u practise?
I think it has nothing to do with kung fu shaolin....it is written shaolin monk maybe bcs he is practising karate very seriously..his kata reminds me of goju ryu 70 percent and shorin ryu 30 percent....it si like some old okinawan karate style like naha-te, tomari-te or shuri-te...in kata there are all karate punches....and bunkai is all from karate...I am shure that this is okinawan karate....maybe mixed between styles, but it is shure mixed with okinawan karate styles....very good...OSU!
read his book, 'ki and the way of the martial arts' and it explains his angle to practicing martial arts ;) basically, HE feels that the modern way of practicing karate doesnt particularly cater for developing superior amounts of ki. He really reveres kendo as a way of developing ki in modern martial arts and the soft chinese styles like tai chi etc. His style is a sort of jeet kune do for a system that develops ki using various martial arts. His book is a very interesting read !
he's pretty fluid. i get the moves, he has some karate stiffness, but kung fu fluidity as well. whereby i see elements of baji chuan, and deflective/redirective tactics. very interesting.
i really like this karate is useful but like all other martial arts it is a art that can be used martialy , its not the martial art its the man tha uses it :)
The first kata he does is Chinto. The level is low to medium. Too many spaces between the moves. Power generated is okay, though. He is no where near the level of the teachers I had on Okinawa.
@PakDaeHan Mixing techniques just for the sake of "mixing" doesn't make it effective. Example, if you mix a bunch of nonsense, you get nothing but nonsense. My point of my poor criticism on this teacher, is that he tries to mix parts of different kata to invent his own, which is his own right to do so, but his technique is poor and is evident in his sparring. His Karate would only work against low-level fighters, such as drunkards and street fighters of little experience.
@Bassai seems like you have a "swell head" my friend, you must be american? why even criticize this man? I think if he keeps training no matter what fucken kata technique he mixes in time he will become skillful.
@PakDaeHan Use logic in your argument, not random statements. When you said " I think if he keeps training no matter what fucken kata technique he mixes in time he will become skillful" makes no sense at all. If you do any technique in a poor manner, it will never be effective no matter how many times you practice it. Example: Weak punch x 1000 = 1000 weak punches. This guy is a con artist and tricks people into paying him to teach them self defense, which actually doesn't work.
I suppose this was a long time ago when he was well young, and begining in tai ki ken, art from which he has reconized has taken various concepts according to his books . I suppose if you recognize this. It is not longer a rip off. as hapkido instructors do with tkd and aikido.
Hello newenglandbudo you're right in the translation however i might add that shorin is the japanese pronunciation of the chinese shaolin and that shorin ryu is a descendent of the martial arts brought by chan buddhist monks when they traveled to china. Chan buddhism the system developed by Da Mo aka boddhidharma aka Ta Mo and is kwon in japan as Zen
Shaolin is Okinwan dialect means "Shorin"; this is basically Shorin Ryu with poor pre-arranged kumite because he is not doing any follow up. His body distancing is way too far away for this.
This is just one aspect of his kumite training, in this instance to develop "flow" in body movement and technique. He is not my teacher, but is a well known and highly respected teacher in both Japan and Europe.
Hahahah, yeah right. Maybe it's so easy to teach this bullshit because he's teaching frenchies. Such crap, "merde", if you like. Brothers would own him in the hood.

Man, you wouldn't like to know it by yourseft. Tokitsu sensei can fight despite being almost 60 years old.
And his "mai" is of the highest level.
His practice now is a lot diferent from what can be watched in this clip... night and day. He's A LOT BETTER now...
