Good vid! Yep, I too loved the (idiot) drivers who can't stop see/hear/stop for emergency vehicles. Re: clean gear. "Well used" gear used to be a symbol of pride. After years of testing, it's been found that contaminates increase heat transfer, cause the fabric to break down, etc. We've finally got our guys to get into the mindset to keep their gear clean. to comment again on the whole volunteer virses paid:
where i used to live it was all volunteer. now where i live its mostly paid. i resecpt both. but the paid ff's have a time when they are at the firehouse volunteers go when there is a call. they live there familes to go save someone else. god bless firefighters
Although I love most of the volunteers here in our department, it seems that being a vol. FF within the community is a badge of honor (duh) and a lot of people sign up to be a vol. just so they can say they are, when they don't really do anything. We have a precious few volunteers here who really volunteer and deserve to wear that badge. And as for the paid guys? They care just as much, if not, more. They are very dedicated. Volunteers aren't always better. It depends on the person.
I agree. I am a volunteer firefighter here in Ontario, Canada. They call us "volunteer" but we are paid none-the-less. Us vols take pride in helping our community and contributing to our team. training wise i feel paid and volunteer are basically the same.but other wise i feel volunteer is better because you can see they really care and are dicated because they dont get paid they just do cuz they care.
