Ya'll shouldn't blame Lucas for gutting this, only replacing it. Marquand and/or the editors are the reason most of this was never originally seen. Initially they thought about releasing an action figure of her but it was discarded later because it was deemed too inappropriate for kids. However an action figure of her was finally released in 2008. I prefer Lapti Nek so much over Jedi Rocks. All those new musicians, it looked too cartoonish and CGI, too over the top.

Immedeatly rejected the song and the additional CG... A New Hope and Empire were minimal with there extensions so it wasn't as bad sitting through those. Mostly audio re-recordings that made me go WTF?! Why?! Plus Greedo shooting first.

Does anyone know why there are 2 versions of this song? You can find both on YouTube. I know this is not the version on the 1995 VHS release because those are the ones that I have. When was this version of "Lapti Nek" used?

This is the version from the 1983 original soundtrack album, which is longer and sounds a lot different from the version in the actual film (original version). The vocals are by Annie Arbogast, who I believe also provided Sy Snootles' voice for the Special Edition's new song Jedi Rocks.

omg lol i've never seen this before, and i'm a die-hard starwars fan. shiiiit, i thought that 'jedi rocks' was the real version. haha i guess it's because my dad got me the remastered VHS videos when i was about three O_o

Man, I like this better than Jedi Rocks (which isn't bad, it's just that I like Lapti Nek better, as do a lot of other people).

I LOVE the intro to Jedi Rocks, I wish they had repeated that riff more. But no, they go into something totally different, and MUCH worse than if they had just played off the riff.

First time I've seen Lapti Nek. I liked it, but I like Jedi Rocks too. Wish I was around in 1977 to see Star Wars in theaters.

EllaVader, watch the clip from the movie on youtube, and then listen to this. The vocals and musical orchestration are different. This is because the master tracks from the original song used in the movie were lost, and the only version that remains is the version on the LP which was played on radio stations.

This song was my favorite of the two. I really liked it, I wish they had just remixed it for the special edition and not done the whole new CGI band number. I ended up going out and buying the theatrical release on dvd because I prefer it so much better to the Special Edition version of Jedi.

I don't remember this one at all... I think I like the other one better. This one has a bit too much of a disco flavor to it for my taste, it dates the film.

The singing isn't as cool, because in the movie she sounds like an alien, kind of off-pitch. This sounds too normal, like a plain old disco song. I miss the old SY Snootles voice...

The film version is different than the single version. ElectricShark is right. And this isn't the scene, this is the music video that accompanied the single.

I'm not a moron, I've seen Jedi many many times. This is not the version in the film, it's a single released subsequent to the film's release. Not the same version used in the film. Listen to the film version and you'll see it's different. That's what I was referring to. And I'm 17, by the way.

17 -- very young.... I'm almost 37 (one month away)..... This is the original... Lapti Nek used to play on radio stations as well.. you need to see the original Return of the Jedi then - you can buy or rent it on DVD. Yes - this version was in the original movie.

I already told you that I've seen the original RETURN OF THE JEDI, and although this is the original SONG, it's not the same version presented in the film. I may be young, but I'm not stupid. The vocals in this version (the album version) are different than the one in the film. In the film, she doesn't even say the words "Lapti Nek". If you think they are the same, then it is YOU who needs to watch the "original Return Of The Jedi". Please don't condescend me because of my age.

The only outdated part was snoodles, but they could have very easily replaced the puppet snoodles with special effects

Why? It looked fine to begin with. I like the puppet better, it looks more realistic than the cheap CGI version which moves unnaturally.
