hey cassandra been watching your vlogs for a while now and was watching your some of old videos like this one right here i dont know today right this present time are you feeling same things about religion as u talked about us at video but i really dont mind because what ever you belive or not about religion your still same person making my day everyday cheer me up every time im sad i know u do that for 1000s people like me we really are lucky to have you dont ever change be safe
Cassandra you dont need to fully make up your mind on the existence of God all at once. If there is indeed a God ( and I believe he exists ) That he is well able to reveal himself to you . All you have to do is send up a sincere prayer and ask God to show himself to you. If you do this from your heart you will get an answer !! Also I'm a Christian, and just remember Jesus was'nt into religiosity ( pharesees etc. ) but a spiritual walk of faith.
i've gone through the "religion" thing as well. i also grow up a christian. in my intermidiate family we didn't have to much strain on religion, my dad let me & my bro make our own decisions about what we thought about religion/believed in. i've decided that im an Agnostic/Atheist. and it was hard to tell my gma who is very religious. i hope you find the beliefs thats right for you :)
I'm 17 and I've been questioning my religion for a long time now. Not long ago I talked to me mom about it because I thought it's was bad that I was having a different opinion on the topic. She told me I'm not a bad person and I have the right to my own opinions and she doesn't care what they are as long as I think for myself. And even now I'm still trying to figure it out. When I was younger I learned others didn't believe in God and I accepted that and I don't judge them, so I won't judge you.
You have a heart of gold Cassandra, and if someone dislikes you because of your religious beliefs, it says more about them than it does about you. I have no religious beliefs, nor do I care what anyone I know believes in as it is their choice and their right to do so, so who am I to question them. I think if more people had your attitude towards life, the world would be a better place.
In fact, nobody does. You, me, you're parents, even the pope has doubts. In my opinion, believing in god is just as arrogant as disregarding the possibility of a god. Besides, doing something nice because you wan't to is worth a lot more than doing something nice because you're afraid of going to hell. I believe you should live the best you can, make people smile (you've already covered that), help people, ect. Just remember to always look at things skeptically and keep and open mind.
Hey Cassandra i know this is a really old vlog and you'll probably never read this, but if you do i know EXACTLY what your going through with religion. I'm 17 and i was raised since birth to be a Christian. But about a year ago i started going through what you're going through. Its still really hard for me even after all this time but I discovered something about myself along the way; I don't know anything for 100%, and i'm ok admitting that. (cont. above)
When you said you had something to talk to all of us about, I thought you were going to start talking about how you need to clean your room or something:) An equally difficult topic, in my opinion:D
Could I recomend you watch "Letting go of God" by Julia Sweeney? It's a wonderful, detailed, personal experience of becoming an atheist. And it's really funny as well. Think you might like it. ;-)
I'm an atheist, and I haven't ever been through a struggle to find that about myself, but I would highly suggest reading each of the holy books for different religions. I think it is only by becoming familiar with each one that you can really out-rule them, or even find something that makes sense to you. On the flip side, I would also suggest reading up on the workings of the universe and works debunking each religion. Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Carl Sagan are good for that.
Cassandra... I'm atheist (don't believe in god at all) and i want you to know that no matter how lonely you may feel, there are always others out there who have the same beliefs! Don't be sad. Your parents will always love you and the facts that ur making ur own opinions means youre maturing :) Good luck with your choice! -Daniel, A loyal subscriber
Your topic is serious stuff, Cassandra!....anyway, as long as i see it, whatever religion u are practising right now really doesn't matter....just as long as u do good and don't do evil....every "good" religion will practice that certainly!
Do what You want. I didnt grow with a faith but I was fascinated with the subject of Nothingness, thought and conciousness. For all the books I read I just kept trying to straighten everything out which ironicly is what Zen points out you cant do. Its all wiggles. I find your vlogs inspiring because you do just that. Just live now and go with it. Since doing that I have enjoyed life more. No one has a whole explaination, I dont. If we could see that maybe we could understand each other better.
@barefootfiona Its from Alan Watts. Also same lecture "I had a discussion with a Master in japan, we were talking about the various people who were trying to translate these books into english and he said thats a waste of time. If you understand zen you can use any bible, alice and wonderland, the dictionairy... because The sound of the rain needs no translation. So what does the rain say? Of evening rain? It is the banana leaf that speaks of it first." Personally I see it in Vlogs like NerdzRL
I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH!!!! I was raised christian too, and I've been questioning it for a while. And I DEFINITELY know what you mean about your parents. The best advice I can give is find what's out there. I'm learning all about these different religions and what not, and even though I may not agree with some of them, I am definitely growing as a person, and it's great.
Read everything. Look into different religions. Read the God Delusion. Go for it all, and realise that all of it will be trying to convince you. Understand that you cannot take anything as fact, or believe anything they say. Once you've done that you can a)have an understanding of all these views and b)look inward at what you feel, disassociated from the various organised propagandas.
I'm Athiest, but I was raised Mormon and my whole family is Mormon. I live with them and I haven't told them the truth about myself. It's been pretty difficult to deal with the reality of my beliefs(or lack thereof) especially when everyone around me is so optimistic about their faith. Losing your religion isn't fun or easy, But I hope you find whatever answers you may be looking for.
I feel the same way about religion. I was brought up Christian, and still celebrate Christian holidays because the rest of my family does, but I don't really belong to any religion. I do believe there is a God, or gods, higher power, whatever you want to call it but I don't think it/he/she has an influence on everything in our lives (Definitely not everything.) I respect you so much more for admitting this, and religion is hard. It's not a way of life; it's a choice to influence your life. I be
I'm super proud of you for questioning your faith! many people are critical of religion because they believe it is just blind following . I myself am a Christian, and my advice to you would be to follow the "Prayer, Study, Action" way of growing in your faith. It's clear by the way you love other people that you take the action God commands of us; Prayer is all about communication and listening, and Study is how you learn! I mean, Christianity is all based on believing the bible, so study it!
when it comes down to god my personal view is that there is beauty in the world things like love or friendship are so powerful that i find it hard to believe that there is nothing that had a hand in making these things. Religion on the other hand is very different, it says what we may and my not do which i believe to be wrong. If god does exist then (for lack of a better word) he would want us to be a good person and live out of love which it seems you do. So don't worry about it be true to you:)
ill say most people are brought up by a certain religion but most dont relley understand what religion they fallow i find most people dont under stand what to belive but we all belove differnt wAYS CAUSE NOTHING FOLLOWS A EXACT RELIGION. because we are all are. Are own person and who is there to judge us for who we want to be
im proud of you (: but im sorry that all the comments are saying that you shouldn't choose Christianity. Im Christian and it's really hard sometimes because i only have one friend who really shares that with me. im sorry that you feel this way right now, but it's good that you're thinking about it, and not just doing it blindly. :D
You are such a strong person Cassandra, to be admitting your religious beliefs to the Internet. It is a very hard thing to discuss religious beliefs with anyone, let alone this many people. Especially since your conflicted about what to believe. No one should judge you for your own opinions about what to believe.
tbh im agnostic and it's a lot better, you not giving urself a certain opinion on something so you can talk to any freely about any religion without offending them by what you believe, i think most people are going towards this anywayz
good thinking Cassandra... this is the liberal thinking of the future. Don't be afraid of your thoughts, keep an open mind. Your parents don't agree with your opinion... not your problem, but don't forget to respect their. It's time more people woke up... just remember "Put your heart where your mouth is".
Thank you Cassandra, I have the same exact thoughts as you. This is something that's been bothering me for the longest time and it's really difficult to struggle through this. I don't feel so alone about this anymore. Again thank you so much.
Everyone has times in their life when they question what they believe. As you listen, read and learn what's out there, don't neglect to continue to listen and read the bible for yourself. Even if you aren't sure whether you believe in God, continue to pray for guidance and keep an open mind. It is said that God has no grandchildren, so even though you have a good foundation, your belief has to be your own. As part of your Youtube "family" I will keep you in my prayers. Peace.
I've gone thrugh the excat same thing once... But now I've come to terms with beeing a atheist/agnostic (<--spelling?) but don't judge me because of that! :D I'm still the same person. You can believe what ever you want, don't let anyone else tell you what to believe. You can't know anything for sure. :) <3
WOOOOOWWWW that's amazing! (I hadn't watched this video before because I hadn't have time.) Agnostic is really good! Don't get me wrong. I just think God is a matter of faith, not reason, therefore, there's no way to be sure of his existence. Please don't think you can't admit to us how you feel. People who really like you won't mind.
Hi Cassandra I am going through the same problem as you. My dad is a Muslim but my mum is atheist and I'm kind of stuck in the middle between the two. I would really recommend looking into Islam as it is a beautiful religion and I hate it when people judge it without knowing any thing about it :(
What I don't get is why religion is such a big deal in certain parts of the world. I'm from Scandinavia and here religion is mostly ignored and the majority are not religious at all.
I can totally see where you're coming from about religion. I think exploring other beliefs to form your own opinion is excellent. I grew up in a Christian home, but I wanted a reason for my faith. I knew that there's historical evidence for Jesus' life and other biblical events, but that doesn't prove anything. For me, I believe God exists partially through personal experience, but mostly from the stories of other people and how much their lives changed when they met Christ. And I find it so sa
Hey Cassandra, I think it's cool that you want to learn more about other religions because that is basically learning more about the world we live in. I also wanted to encourage you to ignore people trying to convince you that there is a god or that there isn't because religion is ultimately a personal thing, and it is important to develop your own beliefs and not just go with the beliefs other people force upon you. I hope you discover what you believe in soon, whatever that may be. :)
noticing unanswered questions and going to answer as yourself.
not just embracing some pattern of thinking, neither thinking things such as 'oh my god, am I a bad person for having these doubts?' or trying to just forget/ignore what you've found out.
this is really, really great to know that you're mind-opened.
what I want to say is, just go ahead, really. It doesn't matter if people that don't know you say bad things, just know what you are.
I understand what you're going through.... sometimes I almost hate all religions, mostly because of the hate. By exemple, judaism was the first religion ever invented, Jesus was jewish, but for some reason it seems like there's so much hate from the christians towards them.
you shouldn't stress out that much about that! The religion (or not religion) you choose is about you and what you actually believe in. You shouldn't feel like you have to make someone else happy. And it's great that now, you accept other religions when before you didn't, it made you a more open person :)
Hi Cassandra! you questioning god is an indicator of your intelligence. I hope you come to be honest with yourself about it, and accept the truth no matter how unsettling or baffling it might be. You are so pure and innocent, and it's absolutely natural that your mind is refusing to accept a fable that contradicts the reality so much.
I'm proud of you for forming your own opinions. Having left Christianity and become agnostic myself, I just want to say don't rush through it. Think a lot before coming to a conclusion.
I get how this feels. I'm having the same feelings. I was raised as a catholic but now I'm just really uncertain. I think it stems from the fact that my religion was chosen for me before I had any say. It makes me kind of resent it almost. You know?
I think it's good that you're being open minded and thinking about the possibility of another religion.
I understand your struggle, because most christian have gone through the same thing. The best thing to do is pray, and read the Bible. God will provide for you!
Ooh, also a really good book is "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. Highly recommend it.
I understand how you feel. I've been an orthodox for my whole life only because my family is. I may not be as old as you but I'm really starting to wonder if I would still be that if my parents weren't so resentful against agnostics and atheists. I'm between being agnostic and christian and I'm glad i'm not the only one who feels like that(:
It's so nice that you worry about what your parents would think about this. But it's pretty brave to come out and tell them the truth. I'm somewhere between an atheist and agnostic myself, and I know Christians have a bad reputation for being judgemental and unkind, but as long as I'm not being preached to, then I think there being dozens of different faiths is wonderful.
Just go with what feels right for you. That's all you can do, I think.
Don't worry Cassandra, I go to a catholic school, catholic family, catholic everything. But now that I am older and can think for myself a bit more I now wonder if christianity is really the thing I believe in. Sometimes when I tell people they get offended and shocked, and I don't really like talking about it either. It's good to know that other people like you are in a similar situation :)
You are in my prayers whatever your decision may be, I will honour it and shall never judge you for it! Also.. You made me want to see X-men: First class.. and it was THE BEST EVER!
I am glad you are being honest and i understand i am a christian myself and i have realized that i dont know all of what i believe so i think that you should talk to someone like a pastor and find out more of what you were believing as a christian and also find out fully what you would believe as the other. Also maybe if even praying about it. and talking to someone that you dont have a relationship with so that it is easier to talk to them.
if you dont know enough about christianity to call yourself a christian, try the best test for any religion. read their book. it should satisfy any questions u have, and if there are any glaring inconsistancies that a professional in the field cannot answer, then obviousely it isnt right for you. also, jst out of interest, what denomination was your family?
I never judge people based on their religion (or lack therof), I judge people based on how they treat others. What religion is is suggestions on how to be a good person. They all essentially have the same foundation: Don't be an asshole and do what makes you happy. That's all. As long as you do that, you're on the right path. Do whatever makes sense in your head and don't worry what others think. All spiritual roads lead to the same place.
im there with ya i grew up in a christian home and went to church and tried spreading the word but as i grew i found out i never really understood it truly and fully and i was just going and doing christian like things to make my parents happy and so they would be proud of me but i have tried several religions and looked up and studied others but still have not found one i am can say im can fully follow i still believe in a god but dont have a religion if that makes any sense
Cassandra, you need to do what you need to do. I want to encourage you to continue to research. Whatever you decide to believe, you need to know what it is and why you believe it. As a Christian, I hope you will find your way back to God, but I'm praying that you will get some answers in whatever way they may come.
I am agnostic but lean to the atheist side more often than not. I believe religion in general has or at least had a very good purpose originally. It teaches people to be better to each other and themselves. Questioning things is natural and I believe it is necessary for anybody to develop a healthy mind and thought process. I wish you luck, and that you may find the answers you are looking for.
I'm an atheist and I am not afraid to say to people "There is no God" because I believe that religious views, whatever they may be, should be an opinion that everyone can express. I'd never judge anyone or change my opinion of someone just because of their religious beliefs. It annoys me so much when people insult others because of their religion. I also dislike the fact that sometimes people are insulted by your opinion, when it should be respected. I <3 Cassandra for who you are :)
i've been struggling with the fact that i just gave up god. thank you for telling me that i'm not a bad person because of it and that i'm not alone. it means so much. i'm going to tell my mom soon. thank you and you are such an inspiration. you don't even know:)
Awww kiddo, *internet hugs* I had the same crisis of faith/change of religion in my lifetime. It's hard but you just have to accept what comes natural to you. No sense in being miserable!
Hey Cassandra! I love watching your videos, you always put a smile on my face :) I just wanted to say that I kinda know what your going through. When I moved out of my parents house I started to question my faith (i am a Christian). I suggest reading Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It really helped me with some questions about God that I had! I really appreciate your honesty and I don't think its wrong to question things!
You know ,, Many people like you doesn't know anything about islam ,, And the Media couses all these stereotypes ,, Everyone who searches for islam wil joins it (WHY ?) ,, because it answers all your problems .. because the Quran (islam's holy book) is the last book from god ,, and isn't modified from the people like the bible ,, I HOPE YOU FIND YOUR PATH
You are lucky Casandra, you can chose what you want to be, and there is nothing to fear of, you may just face angry people here and there and nothing more. I'm nearly as you but the deferent is I can't announce my opinion because it is dangerous to my life.
You are lucky because you have right to be what you want to be.
I've noticed that many of the popular youtubers like michael aranda, charlieissocoolike, and nerimon are agnostic as well. You are at an age when you question everything, you need to surround yourself with people that can help with your questions. I personally love seeing your vids and will pray you feel better and find what you are searching for.
I've been going to church my whole life, and I think something many of the younger people in my church tell us is not to judge others for struggling with religion. Most are just too cowardly to admit that they are sometimes unsure.
there is nothing wrong with you struggling with this. i personally do not like organized religion. you can still be a spiritual person and not have a religion, you can still believe in the good of people and being a good person without having a religion:)
I was brought in a "religionfree" home. I mean my parents didnt influence me in any way about religion. But when i was like 13-14 i felt like religion was something that might be important and i read about a bunch of different ones and realised no of the bigger ones is for me and my ethics. So I decided to think more about how important religion is and came to understanding that, atleast for me, religion only creates a space between me and people with other ethics/morales
Casandra i am only 14 and same thing has happend with me i have been raised as a religion all my life but i am not sure anymore i know how it feels i havent even told my parents
Is there really such a big difference between believing or not believing in Canada or the US? People are not very religious in my country, Norway, but we are a christian country. Many people go to the church only on Christmas eve. Most never goes to church, some go every week. The thing about Norway, is that we don't really consider ourselves as christians if you ask one person alone, but many still feel it is safe to have the church around. You would never be judged because of this in Norway :)
You must do what you want to do and believe what you want to believe, all these things make up who you are, however I wouldn't say that being either this religion or that determines you as a person.
Questioning is part of growing up too, so once you accept it, it's one of the awesome things you mentioned before.
I do hope that you are ok and it doesn't worry you too much. You have gone the right way about discovering it too. There has been no judging :)
I thought you were about to say you had cancer or something.
Before being a community thing, religion is something personal and no one should tell you what to believe in, :maybe it's different in america than in Europe it but you shouldn't feel bad about questioning yourself it would be more stupid not to do it :)Hope you'll start to sleep better :)
06:13 you cried :) I'm not judging, just found that very genuine of you, and I kind of cried as well. I've been going through questioning my religion as well. I felt like I really believed in God for a bit there, but before that, I mocked my parents' belief because I was scared of what I might or might not believe in... I think I believe in God, but I'm confused. I'm glad you found your conclusion, and I understand your parents might be frustrated in the beginning. Good luck ♥
Cassandra thank you sooooooo much for sharing that with us I've gone through the same struggle and am still working through it I know the fear of telling your parents that know you're not alone
Well, that's how I became Agnostic, cos there are many things that are not explained and when you're brought up Christian, there comes a time when you ask yourself, do I really believe? Where is the proof?
So yeah, that's how it happened, and I'n not really an atheist I guess, cos there's a 0.1% in me that believes that there might be god somewhere, but it's just me.
Everybody has their own beliefs, that's how it is, right :]
I'm glad you shared this with us, there's nothing wrong with it )
At the end of the day try and leave all the possible prejudice we humans pick up in our lives to one side and try to be as objective as possible when you look at all the many ways people believe in. Im a muslim by the way so naturaly i would encourage you to take a look at the Quran and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, to me personally Islam makes the most sence. But nevertheless also read about the other religions and idealogies out there.
Hey Cassandra, i just wanted to say that i hope everything gets better with you and your parents. Also what i would do is read the primary sources of the religions out there , so for example for Christianity the Bible, for Islam the Biography of the Prophet Muhammad and the Quran, for Hinduism the Gita, for Buddhism the sayings of Buddha and so on and so forth. That way you can see which you agree with. Also talk to members from each religion and stuff and ask them about their beliefs......
I have to say that this whole religious conflict is so foreign to me because it seems in the US and in Canada religion is so much more important than it is in Europe. Or well, I wouldn't say it is less important over here seeing as religion is something that has always and will always touch people, but over here you are not so much defined over what you believe.
All I can say is, it is better to doubt something now after you've learned about it than to believe in something you know nothing about
I think you have friends in your life now who are influencing your beliefs. I think you know who they are, and I am not going to call them out but I know for a fact they have said things to you that counter quite drastically what you've believed for so long. If you are making your own decision on this make sure that the decision truly is yours. A real friend will back off as you go through this and not try to influence you to their side.
Cassandra, I encourage you to read the bible, study it, and learn more about the denomination that you were brought up in. I wouldn't run off and search something out at the complete opposite end of the scale so quickly. Don't give up on God just yet, He won't ever give up on you! I might also reccomend a few days of fasting and praying. I have been a christian since 2007. It was the best decision I ever made. I finally feel as if I have a purpose. I have more to say, but not enough space!
@leahpeaaa maybe she should read things about all the religions, not only about the christianism because her problem maybe is that she wants to know about the religion, in general; about the reason of the existance of the religion. Knowing other thing make you take the decision that you really want. Maybe knowing a lot of things of all the religions she decides again for believe in Christianism. With this comment I don´t want to offend you, I´m really sorry if it does it.
@leahpeaaa how could she make a clear decision if shes delirious from fasting? for those who don't know what fasting is its basically when you only drink fluids to loose weight.
@AussieRoadTripper It was just a suggestion, and There are many types of fasting (medical & spiritual) and you don't only fast to lose weight. Many different religions fast for different reasons. Some times people only drink water during the day, and have a small meal in the evening. I know people who fast and only drink water and eat bread. It does not make you delirious if you do it properly. I wasn't suggesting she starve herself for months on end.
Cassandra. Are you going to the Toronto gathering? (Go watch ApprenticeEh if you didn't get the notice) You can go to the facebook event and check it out, seems like a lot of youtuber are going. It would be lovely if tou went to vlog there too =D
im not good with english but really if you hear me out this will help you
cristians and most of the religions beleive in afterlife but reallyi have one simple argument based on reality and not faith we are the sum of our experiances right?
so if we lose our memory we lose our identity therefore after death when the part of our brain whitch holds our memory discomposes we literally die
so this is one argument i could tell you so much more but the question is we are really interested t hear
@bellz9113 she did go downtown yesterday, she has made it back safe to her place but some of her friends are still in Downtown Vancouver, the only reason I know this is because of her twitter. That also means that most likely that day will be uploaded late.
No one has the right to jugde you. Like you said, this is your own desicion, this is your own opinion. If someone doesn't respect the way you believe in things etc. then this person probably deserve your friendship.
In other news... On the Dutch(!) radio this morning: "Huge riots (including demolished cars etc.) in Vancouver, because the Canucks lost the match for the Stanley Cup from the Bruins". I guess there are malicious people all over the world :-(.
@cakeykhans well thats just a rude comment!! you don't even justify your opinion, there for I conclude that you are STUPID! if you make such comments justify your reasons....
I've been in the exact same situation as you ever since I was badly let down by my local church a few years ago. Not sure whether I'm Christian or Agnostic. It's really changed me as a person, I find it extremely hard to trust people, As long as you have a good heart and your kind to others, I don't think it matters if your religious or not. I can't say my prayers are with you but my thoughts are with you and I hope your able to reconcile the problem better then I am able to.
Cass, religion does not make a person. It might help you in certain decisions and help you grow, but you are you. Whether you are Buddhist, Christian, Catholic or Jewish; you are not a good person because of your religion. I for one dont believe, at all; does that mean I am a bad person?
I remember back when I was 10, a kid threw a bible on the floor and kicked it in-front of a bunch religious kids, I punched him in the arm, and I was never even religious. God and I decided to see other people a long time ago when I decided my religion is pokemon. it's a matter of respect I think, if you are able to believe in what you want to, you should be able to let others do that too. (and i wasn't serious about the pokemon thing, just saying)
For the first half of my life, my dad was a Southern Baptist pastor and i was raised so christian that i sweated Jesus. Also we weren't allowed to watch pokemon because it talked about Evolution or read Harry Potter because of the magic or watch TMNT for some reason. now i'm an atheist, but i have no qualms about people who are religious. i'm just glad you're exploring this whole situation, because too many people don't, and it took me a while to realize what i believed in, too.
@NerdzRL i went throw the same thing so i know what you mean and how you feel...like idk if theres a god but if there is a god then thats good but until i see him idk and i dont feel any diffrient abooot you :)
I'm an atheist but very few know. its too much sometimes for people to except the possibility that, the world might not work the way they thought it did. so i usually just avoid the whole conversation and assimilate to their religion. at least with family.
I am so impressed that you have been able to search this topic. I have not been willing to go on a search for the religion that I want to be. I hope to one day have the strength to go on search the way you have.
You actually made me a lot more confident about my religious beliefes too. I was in the same shoes as you.. I was raised as a christian. I have never read the bible or anything.. but I had always said I was a christian just because my parents were. Later on in my life at age 16 I was interested in forming my own religious opinion. I decided that I wasn't exactly a christian but I am undecided. I am scared to tell my friends and family but I honestly think its my business and only my business. :)
This last year I struggled between spirituality and athieism, and it put me in the dumps for a while too. One of the things I asked myself in order to start moving forward and becoming myself again was:
is my stress revolving around how others will perceive me for changing and around guilt/fear of steping out of what I know? or is the stress coming from my realization that the world might not run the way I thought it was run?
It's good to know where the stress is primarily coming from
finding your own religion/spirituality/philosophy is a personal journey. i think it's awesome that you're brave enough to explore that part of yourself! high five!
It's so important to be your own person and work things out for yourself. It may be hard, and you may feel lost--I know I do at times--but you just have to keep thinking about things to figure them out. I have been thinking about religion too, and haven't reached a set conclusion either, but I am happy with who I am and what I am doing. Good luck, and keep growing!
so many long comments! I'm going to try to be serious and make this a short one:) I've gone through the same thing as you have with the religion thing: I was raised as a catholic and I believe in God... sort of... and well, now I'm kind of half agnostic too... the only difference that my parents let me think and believe pretty much what I want and they are very open-minded when it comes to religious stuff :) but just stay strong and believe what you want :) this wasn't short at all, was it?
I think we're pretty much in the same position here because I was brought up Catholic and went to a Catholic all girl's school and the whole she-bang but now I can say I'm an atheist and honestly I feel like I was using Christianity because I was afraid of death and the possibility that there might be nothing bigger than us out there terrified me but idk now I feel like the universe is enough and that we can just "be" ok dumb comment over
i am a christian, to be honest, this religion is actually quite good, as i have someone to pray to when i need help^.^ . it also binds my bad behaviours too, as i know that God is watching me , i need to be a good girl all the time(don't cheat or be lazy). See? these are all benefits, not a single penny is needed, so why not ???On the other hand, i really hope that everyone can be christian, as there is one command for us : we need to love one another. Then the world will be full of love GOOD>3<
(sorry for another long comment) you said that people asked if u were a christian, and I've thought about that too, although I had never heard u talk about it before. what I'm trying to say is that this kind of stuff is reflect in your life, it's so much more than just religion. If you seek only for a religion it means nothing, u should seek for a life style. I am a christian, so obviously I'd want u to be too. but going through doubts just like yours is what made my faith strong!
As an atheist who was brought up as a strong believer I can tell you that questioning your belief is very normal and no one but yourself should choose what you do or don't believe for that is your decision and whatever you choose does NOT make you a bad person :) Good Luck
after careful research, i realized that christianity is kinda... not everything your preacher tells you... when i told my mom that i didn't think i was a christian anymore, she was devastated. i still think she's disappointed in me. but honestly, i live my life to the best of my abilities and helping as many people as i can. and putting as much love into the world as i can! the life i live now is far better than the one i did while i was christian. do what feels right!
I am of the opinion that as long as your beliefs lead you to conduct a wholesome, fulfilling, and caring life, it really doesn't matter what those beliefs are.
I was raised as a christian too but a while ago I started thinking about it because religion confused me. I came to the conclusion that I do believe in God, but I don't really believe in or follow any religion. I still think about it but for now that's how I feel.
if they didn't make you understand your religion how can they be mad at you? when i was 10 i cried to my mum that i felt uncomfortable about not feeling the same way about religion as all my friends (Catholics) who went to church every sunday. my mum just said that it's my own thing and i should come into terms with it by myself not looking at others. i lived a little more since then, read few books and so i am an atheist. it isn't about what religion you follow but about the good things you do.
Two years ago I wasn't sure If there was a God so I went with my friends in France, in village Taize for a week, and that week changed my life. Taize is a place where almost all religions can come and live with thousands young people from all around the world and with monks from Taize community. That week during the prayer I felt for the first time that there is a God. I think that you can't find religion, you must feel it, you have to let Him in and let Him speak to you. He has to choose you!
all ppl believe in God,.because of your primitiveness not your parents, they just make you Jewish, Christian or Muslim.
i think you have to read more, think then ask the right ppl about every thing you read.
its not easy, but you can easily forget it and continue your life with a huge gap in your heart and brain.
It is believed that the Qur'an as we know it today, is the same as was revealed to Muhammad in the year 610, its the only non-interpolated and the final holy book exist.
hey cassandra been watching your vlogs for a while now and was watching your some of old videos like this one right here i dont know today right this present time are you feeling same things about religion as u talked about us at video but i really dont mind because what ever you belive or not about religion your still same person making my day everyday cheer me up every time im sad i know u do that for 1000s people like me we really are lucky to have you dont ever change be safe

(cont. above)

Could I recomend you watch "Letting go of God" by Julia Sweeney? It's a wonderful, detailed, personal experience of becoming an atheist. And it's really funny as well. Think you might like it. ;-)
Biathine 7 months ago

XBCX96 8 months ago

You are such a strong person Cassandra, to be admitting your religious beliefs to the Internet. It is a very hard thing to discuss religious beliefs with anyone, let alone this many people. Especially since your conflicted about what to believe. No one should judge you for your own opinions about what to believe.

Peace.

brenbakium 8 months ago
dude, this is just so cool. the religion topic.
noticing unanswered questions and going to answer as yourself.
not just embracing some pattern of thinking, neither thinking things such as 'oh my god, am I a bad person for having these doubts?' or trying to just forget/ignore what you've found out.
this is really, really great to know that you're mind-opened.
what I want to say is, just go ahead, really. It doesn't matter if people that don't know you say bad things, just know what you are.
Miiikio 8 months ago
I understand what you're going through.... sometimes I almost hate all religions, mostly because of the hate. By exemple, judaism was the first religion ever invented, Jesus was jewish, but for some reason it seems like there's so much hate from the christians towards them.
sugarxheaven 8 months ago
you shouldn't stress out that much about that!

I can see this has really touched you.

Before being a community thing, religion is something personal and no one should tell you what to believe in, :maybe it's different in america than in Europe it but you shouldn't feel bad about questioning yourself it would be more stupid not to do it :)Hope you'll start to sleep better :)

thinking critically about religion is always a good thing because one way or the other it will end up leading you to whatever belief is best for you.

Good luck ♥

Good luck ,peace
a2zproductionz 8 months ago
Hey Cassandra, i just wanted to say that i hope everything gets better with you and your parents. Also what i would do is read the primary sources of the religions out there , so for example for Christianity the Bible, for Islam the Biography of the Prophet Muhammad and the Quran, for Hinduism the Gita, for Buddhism the sayings of Buddha and so on and so forth. That way you can see which you agree with. Also talk to members from each religion and stuff and ask them about their beliefs......

I am in the same boat, but I am to scared to tell my parents.

I have to say that this whole religious conflict is so foreign to me because it seems in the US and in Canada religion is so much more important than it is in Europe. Or well, I wouldn't say it is less important over here seeing as religion is something that has always and will always touch people, but over here you are not so much defined over what you believe.
All I can say is, it is better to doubt something now after you've learned about it than to believe in something you know nothing about
nieni90 8 months ago

I have more to say, but not enough space!
leahpeaaa 8 months ago
@leahpeaaa maybe she should read things about all the religions, not only about the christianism because her problem maybe is that she wants to know about the religion, in general; about the reason of the existance of the religion. Knowing other thing make you take the decision that you really want. Maybe knowing a lot of things of all the religions she decides again for believe in Christianism. With this comment I don´t want to offend you, I´m really sorry if it does it.
jajusful 8 months ago
@leahpeaaa how could she make a clear decision if shes delirious from fasting? for those who don't know what fasting is its basically when you only drink fluids to loose weight.
AussieRoadTripper 8 months ago
@AussieRoadTripper It was just a suggestion, and There are many types of fasting (medical & spiritual) and you don't only fast to lose weight. Many different religions fast for different reasons. Some times people only drink water during the day, and have a small meal in the evening. I know people who fast and only drink water and eat bread. It does not make you delirious if you do it properly. I wasn't suggesting she starve herself for months on end.

cristians and most of the religions beleive in afterlife but reallyi have one simple argument based on reality and not faith we are the sum of our experiances right?
so if we lose our memory we lose our identity therefore after death when the part of our brain whitch holds our memory discomposes we literally die
so this is one argument i could tell you so much more but the question is we are really interested t hear

MrMatttreks 8 months ago
Cass, religion does not make a person. It might help you in certain decisions and help you grow, but you are you. Whether you are Buddhist, Christian, Catholic or Jewish; you are not a good person because of your religion. I for one dont believe, at all; does that mean I am a bad person?
speedoflanding 8 months ago

K1ngme3 8 months ago
(sorry for another long comment) you said that people asked if u were a christian, and I've thought about that too, although I had never heard u talk about it before. what I'm trying to say is that this kind of stuff is reflect in your life, it's so much more than just religion. If you seek only for a religion it means nothing, u should seek for a life style. I am a christian, so obviously I'd want u to be too. but going through doubts just like yours is what made my faith strong!

As an atheist who was brought up as a strong believer I can tell you that questioning your belief is very normal and no one but yourself should choose what you do or don't believe for that is your decision and whatever you choose does NOT make you a bad person :) Good Luck

after careful research, i realized that christianity is kinda... not everything your preacher tells you... when i told my mom that i didn't think i was a christian anymore, she was devastated. i still think she's disappointed in me. but honestly, i live my life to the best of my abilities and helping as many people as i can. and putting as much love into the world as i can! the life i live now is far better than the one i did while i was christian. do what feels right!

if they didn't make you understand your religion how can they be mad at you? when i was 10 i cried to my mum that i felt uncomfortable about not feeling the same way about religion as all my friends (Catholics) who went to church every sunday. my mum just said that it's my own thing and i should come into terms with it by myself not looking at others. i lived a little more since then, read few books and so i am an atheist. it isn't about what religion you follow but about the good things you do.
