  • no, actually in his instructional video at freejazzguitar (dot)com, he states he knows nothing of modes nor what they do. oh snap...

  • i love jazz solos because of how they are based off jazzy chords and modes, the progressions just sound so cool. this guy is a master

  • Italian guitar players are simply the best.

  • Robert is a genuine artist, not a media-created creature like Lady gaga...etc. Salute Robert.

  • 1969... Robert Conti is such a fantastic player...He is so relaxed when he plays. The music just flows from his fingers.

  • sounds like young pat martino ....where was this recorded?

    Philly?

  • MAN THIS IS KOOOL!

  • DONDE ESTA TU DIOS AHORA?!!

  • He has eyeballs on the ends of his fingers...

  • bravo!!!

  • he has to work on his picking he studders too much ha ha ha just kidding, this man is sick!

  • much stronger player in his youth. solid. 5 stars

  • Don't agree. The guy plays as well today.

  • @flute4

  • geeeeeezzzzz!!!!!!!!

  • damn!!!! I am just speechless

  • Man he was that good 40 years ago!

    --Eric E.

  • @Ericejazz Yes, you're right. It's amazing that over 40 years after this video, he is still a fire breathing bebop monster.

  • love the tone!

  • that guitar didn't have a chance with Conti at the wheel! i hear a little Roberts in there,.brilliant!

  • mad skills

  • is it worth mentioning that Robert Conti is an inspired and inspirational teacher truly in a league of his own as well as a mind blowing guitarist.

  • Two different typs of music - This man could play either. Not true of the others mentioned.

  • Robert Conti is an incredible player. I heard him live around 1984 or so, playing solo jazz guitar. A revelation. Brilliant. It hurt me to have to leave. That good...

  • He has a particular unique style of his own hes just as talented as joe pass, herb ellis an all how come hes not that ''Famouse''..

  • really in 69? how did hendrix, paige, keith richards, clapton, etc. get more famous than him?

  • Lots of reasons. They played rock, not jazz, which was more popular. They had major record company muscle behind them. They were young and glamorous, he was young. And finally - some of them, anyway, were more expressive. He is a killer player, but I honestly believe that Hendrix was doing something more world-shaking, inventive and musical. This is good, but it's really just conventional jazz played really fast.

However, I don't know why Keith Richards is more famous.

  • Keith is famous because has has written a shitload of music. Certainly not for his guitar skills.

  • What are your thoughts on Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore?

    allen

  • I am a bit sentimental about Rory because he's Irish and so am I, and I grew up with his stuff, but I sometimes think he can be too blues purist/pedestrian. He should have cut loose more often. Gary Moore - I am far from an expert. It's good fun but it's not something I would listen to much. I have a live album upstairs somewhere from the 80s that has his bulldozing rendition of "Shapes of Things", but I hardly ever listen to it.

  • Gary Moore is Irish as well is he not? Belfast I think.

  • Apparently he is. But for some reason it isn't enough to make me like him. The Edge is also Irish, and I don't rate him at all as a guitar player.

  • Amazing, Perfect solo

  • I agree, Robert Conti deserves all the recognition in the world, he is up there with the greats. His a killer player.. how come we dont know much about him? This is what i love about this day and age..a great player like him can get recognized through the internet, and the record labels can go kiss ass.

  • my only regret is that the song is cut

  • do you guys realize all music is modal this dude is amazing and uses and knows his modes what he means by not useing them isnt to not use them at all he means to not be trapt into only thinking about them while you solo

  • This guy doesnt need SPACE hes just a MACHINE, your all just jelous, lol

  • wow...this guy can kill me with his guitar...

  • What planet is he from?? Jeez......great stuff!

  • GJ!

  • Awesome!.

  • never seen that

    killer

  • what a badass. charlie parker on a guitar.

  • That blues lick at 0:36-0:39; I use that all the time. Love the style. It almost reminds me of a sax.

  • jesus, he can play

  • haha rock never used those licks until the late 70's. just to show you without jazz there would be nothing

  • Fabulous stuff, what guitar was that? Did it have P-90 pickups?

I'd love some lessons from Rob!

  • Jeez! Seeing as I was born in '66, this guy has been a master for longer than I've been alive! Bravo!

  • it´s THE Feeling!!!

  • wow!

  • Jazz monster!

  • AMAZING

  • YIKES !!!!!

  • Great !!!

  • Excellent, you are the best, i' ve posting a video from you lessons, good teatching

  • one note indeed! bob is one of the best unknown players in america...its criminal that he hasn't received the recognition he deserves...maybe its because he had a "daytime job" for many years.

  • Yes Bob Conti deserves more acclaim...as does Scotty Anderson....and many others...shame on the music industry for allowing sampling and cramming the airways full of no talent hacks...anybody tired of rap yet?

  • So clean!!!! Beautiful stuff!~

  • wow..what a virtuoso!!! i'll be checking this guy out!

  • Superb!
