@5191keith they were concerned with the look, not the gas milage back then....cars had real style....you can glace at one and know who made it...not like a lot of cookie cutter junk they make now....but i do love the new tech in engines....much faster in so many ways...
@willem01 from what I've read, it was all about transferring as much weight as possible towards the back. Don't quote me on that but, thats how I understand it. Lighten the front ends as much as structurally possible, and raise it in the air to transfer weight to the back.
@machone7I a gasser is a old style drag race car. they have solid front axle that sits the front up higher then the rear of the car, sumtimes a old hemi or small block chevy with a tunnel ram or early style fuel injection or even a blower pokin thru the hood, most should be a 4 speed clutch with fenderwell headers that are white, cheater slicks on old drag wheels, basiclly a drag car from the 50s-60s this car is a good rendition of a gassrer
Yes it is,it was in Custom Car Magazine in 1977 and i still have the mag ( i was only 10 years old!).I see it quite often at Shakespeare County in Stratford upon Avon.
@cabritorsss My opinion they're worried more about luxary, and not so much the Fine FIne! sound of an M22 wine or the way a TH350 shifts into high gear , or how to really shift gears by banging Knuckles on the all steel dash board. I love that show by the way just like you would like to see some old vintage drag cars with no rules anything go's.
The I-Beam front axel in Gas coupes was done for three reasons. 1). Less weight in the front, 2). higher set up. Both those reasons had to do with weight transfer to the rear. and 3). Sometines, but probably not in this case, larger engines sometimes needed the extra space available by removing the A-frames and the shock towers.
'Nutherwords... a Small block Chevy engine could still fit in there with the old front suspension, but a bigger block engine might need the space.
Biggest reason for front end height was the weight transfer to the rear. Slick compounds were hard in those days. Nothing like today. They had to put as much weight to the rear as possible.
PLEASE DONT READ THIS!In 1971 a guy named Kyle an his girlfriend Emily were in side a house that was said to claim peoples lives if they entered the house. The next morning a guy named Alex saw fingernail marks on the door.dont post this to 5 videos, and youll be getting a visit from Kyle and Emily tonight!WARNING:this has been proved to be real,i value my life!whoever reads this may God be with you!
was done for weight transfer, just like some altered wheelbase drag cars had the rear end moved forward, to increase traction. Seems like theyed be scarier then hell at speed though!
they also did it because back then t=you had to run a hood and nothing could come up above the hood so theyd lift the front of the car and drop the engines low in the frame so they could run taller intakes and bigger spacers between the intake and carb. Thats how the small block became big because they couldnt have anything over the hood and the crank case could only be a maximum of 24 inches off the ground
The "210" is a series. They also made a 150 series. They only difference is they didn't put much trim on the 150's as they did on the 210's. The origional motor in that car was a 283 c.i. small block v8.
