I liked this song before it was used in Wall Street, haven't seen Wall Street, and wouldn't have even known it was IN Wall Street if not for the top comments. :-|
Well One down two to go. The one is the Cars, just reunited. Next, hopefully the Heads will get back together. Then lastly, I know i am dreaming but it would be nice to see Led Zeppelin get back for one more tour.
@LesSmith45: Let's hope. A Heads reunion would be wonderful. Would love to see them attempt to recreate the type of show they put on back in their heyday. Big suit and all haha!!!
Byrne and Eno have given us so many wonderful gifts over the past couple of decades. They have this uncanny ability to use their creative beats, stylish melodies, and meaningful lyrics to evoke powerful emotions in all of us. This song is one of the best I've heard from any artist over the past couple of years. These guys create human music, and we are the beneficaries.
However much I love the usage of this song in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, I can't help but think that The Kinks Sunny Afternoon, wouldn't have been more suitable somehow. Just opinon, and don't think I'm hating, I'm just saying.
Money Never Sleeps: Manhattan's slick metalic architecture slickly shot in a montage intercut with a cool twenty something leather jacket wearing oxymoronically environmentally enthused wall street capatilist riding the streets on his motorbike effortlessly embodying cool - all to the gorgeous sound of this cracking song. A very seductive advertisement for corporate city life. Well done, Oliver.
@stephentime100 Saving the environment can look cool. What could look cooler than keeping your cool while saving the world by, as it were, keeping it cool. Stone is a genius, as is Byrne.
funny 00000000 i agree with you and rap is my first love.since wutang and red man etc i aint in love with these no talent rappers as you say, david byrne is amazing
agree to disagree... she may have hits but many ppl have hits who shouldnt. she may write but she cant sing for shit. i can be listed as a writer to, doesnt mean i'll be very good.
I love that David Byrne is still making music in this day and age that makes me feel nostalgic. I can't help but think of the beautiful wide open shots of deserts and small suburban areas that helped the Talking Heads be one of my favorite 80s memories.
Such an awesome song. It's sad that I only just recently found out who wrote/sang it. As someone else said it's really a pity that some of the best singers and song writers, well, fade away.
I definitely agree with you that it's sad that many of the really good artists we have today aren't getting the airplay and recognition they deserve yet so many of the awful hip hoppers are getting all the recognition, they play this song on our Satellite Feed at our retail store
Man, I wish MTV didn't suck anymore. It is a real shame older people (such as Byrne) who was once a music video pioneer can't get the air play he deserves.
This music is 1000 times better than most "hits" on the radio today yet it sort of remains "underground".
If he did videos like he did in the 1980's (and if MTV would play them) he would be bigger than all of those no-talent rap acts and other junk people buy today.
So sad what the industry has become. Anyone agree?
not really, when good music is underground it kinda makes it even more rewarding when you find a little hidden gem. while there is plenty of shit out there there's also some great pop tunes amongst all the crap...
Yeah i guess its just taste, perhaps Lil Wayne isnt the best M.C. the world has ever known but rap doesn't have to rhyme either.. I dont think we're gonna reach any ground breaking conclusions on the state of music as art. Oh well, think I'll just listen to this song again...ah thats better,
@funny0000000 its all the mainstream fans with no music taste.... they eat up whats new and popular just because it is, without ever realizing theres no depth or value. the reason why these trends cme and go is cause theyre not real artists. and real artists reinvent themselves every cpl yrs causing them to last longer than any jonasbros or lady caca.... damn im ramblin
@jackblacksutube I just don't see it exactly that way. Sure DB and Talking Heads are my all time favorite but not all new music is bad. Times and trends change.
What is a "real artist"? Listen to the Lady Gaga song "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" and tell me that she is not a real artist. She did write it, her real name is listed as a writer.
She has MANY hits and people like her.
I can't comment on the Jonas Brothers because I know almost nothing about them but I think the 1 writes.
@funny0000000 funny 00000000 i agree with you and rap is my first love.since wutang and red man etc i aint in love with these no talent rappers as you say, david byrne is amazing

But saying that rappers have no talent is as ignorant of the truth as someone saying music on MTV today is complete music brilliance. granted there are numerous rappers that are complete garbage as well, but there are so many out there that are unbelievable lyricists and poets. ones that would blow bands such as these out of the water in terms of lyrics/meaning
@soufwudnation Read other replies below. I have defended Lady Gaga and all. I did not mean "all rap" acts are no talent but in the past 10 years most of them are. Check my favorites to see I like all types of music: new, old, rap, ect.
I also buy some of the "junk" I called "junk" in my comment. I wrote a comment that became top rated as I always do but if you dissect every word it is like when John Lennon sang "if you talk about destruction you can count me out......in".
@soufwudnation While I agree with you that there are lots of really talented rappers.. I just cant put them on the same level as great singer/poets. A rapper can write a rhyme... and it can be put over dozens of beats. They have to worry about text and rhythm. Great singers worry about text, rhythm *and* melody.
