Gorbachev made the mistake of making political changes such as free elections and multi-party system that gave powers in the hands of people that never had any democratic culture in their brains...on the contrary Russians has a tradition of authoritarian regimes (Czars,Bolsheviks)...If he had only done economic reforms such as opening market in some sectors of economy he would have modernized the Ussr and it would have never dissoluted...

Communism wanted a balance in the world so that we would not have to know that an African child dies every second from starvation.
