  • My name is Natalia... But my parents where too lazy to pronounce 3 syllables so thus the trendy, shortened addition (Tala) came to be.

  • im fish last name salmon (sal-Mon)

  • my nick name is big "d" because my name is "Doug" and I'm small framed

  • ive created both my nicknames, my first one being ShoTz i just was writing down words on a piece of paper in weird ways n i really liked that one. then because i had no reason behind the name i changed it to Lyme, because i happen to wear the color all the time and it stuck instantly.

  • Some nicknames can be very hurtful.Yes, some are good and some are bad.

  • I've never had any nicknames that stuck but over the years I've been called "E", "Big E", and "Eazy E" after the rapper that was in NWA, I don't rap or any thing I just have the same first name as him. Also for the first two weeks of my life my parent called me Aaron instead of my real name Eric.

  • My nickname is 'Punz'. Which is shortened from 'Rapunzel'. Which I got from my really long blonde hair. :D

  • My real name is sarvnaz, but in grade six one of my friends decided to call me Sazzy. At first I hated it and denied it whenever anyone tried to call me that. 5 years later I have accepted it and it's what everyone calls me.

  • @voldey the story really isn't interesting at all. just take some girls who go to a conservative catholic school and ask them to entertain themselves and thats what will result. We've also got a nipples, slippery nipple, testicles/testes, and a vagina. clearly the nuns have done us right.

  • My funniest experience with a nick name was in 11th grade, a football player constantly called me Cherry Bear. It annoyed me so, but it was funny because my last two years of hs, I was incredibly introverted. In a matter of days, this one football player had that stupid nick name being yelled at me by almost the whole school. I wasn't any more open, and yet everyone seemed to love me because of that one term of endearment. Although annoying, it was rather fascinating as well.

  • unfortunately, my prevailing nickname seems to be annifer the wench, or more agreeably, "Wenchie" :P oh marching band...

  • Before you speak I always expect a broad English accent to come out...

  • My dad calls me Monster.

  • I got Doorman as a nickname because I would hangout by the door and hold it open for people all the time

  • people in my year at school refer to me as ninja gill because I was so quiet when I first came to that school they didn't notice me and my last names Gill

  • my name is siham, when i was really young everyone called me sammy? in high school everyone called me hamtaro, then hammy, then just ham. it stuck which is great.

  • @TheWarmBread Did they call you hamtaro because of the anime? My youngest brother watched it a lot and I got annoyed by the theme song at one point.

  • My grandad started calling me noodle because he never remembered my real name, which my sister picked up and then all my friends picked it up off of her.

and now its 'NOOD' which I don't like, at all.

  • @bobbieorangeful I'm sure "NOOD" can be put in the list of nicknames that people never want to be given.

  • @Voldey its catching on as well, loads of people call me it! apparently it suits me ¬.¬

  • Also coincidentally I forgot that your name was Justin earlier when I was talking to my mother about tumblr and I just sat staring at your handle for a long time trying to remember but yeah no voldey is all that came out of my mouth

  • @ashiezorz I bet that happens a lot. People go to my page, see my handle and then try to think of my name and can't think of it.

  • Er my nickname is just Ashie. Nothing interesting. No interesting story either.

  • @ashiezorz (well I think it was my fault, I think I started it, but I don't remember how)

  • @ashiezorz Ashie just reminds me of Ash Ketchum from pokemon.

  • My dad has always called me kadiebird, because puns are cool, and so my mum morphed that into kadiebug and that got shortened to the worst nickname imaginable.

    Bugs.

  • @kadielizz Bugs isn't that bad. I'd recon that it would be short for bugs bunny.

  • I was complaining just yesterday about how all of my friends have a nickname but I don't...some friends call me by my last name, but that's about it. My first name it's hard to shorten, too, so right now I'm the only one in my group of friends who's known by only their real name >.<

  • @spacecolouredseafoam My group of friends and I are only calling each other by the nick names that we've given each other. It must suck to be the only one who doesn't have one.

  • Hah, I created my own nickname, it's Lellah. I believe it was I friend of mine who said something to me and I heard it wrong and thought she called me Lelle, which my brother was sometimes called when we were kids. Well anyway, I just gave it a little feminine twist and here we are. Almost everyone I've met since 2008 calls me Lellah. Oh, and I only learned this a couple of months ago, but is means "For God" in Arabic. :)

  • @LellahIsBlue That's really cool that you made your own nickname! I'm not creative enough to make my own.

  • im obsessed with jellyfish and my friends call me Jennifish. i was also watching pokemon and decided that officer jenny was a cool person, so i came up with officer Jenni (its my twitter and tumblr name)

it hasnt caught on though :(

    ps new haircut looks snazzy

  • @ForgetTheLie Thank you! I'm starting to like my hair a lot more when it's "shorter"

  • Fundipp was actually an IRL nickname before I made it my username. I brought like 3 boxes of fun dip on Valentine's day to school and my best friend started calling me fundip. Then y'all internet folk decided to make a nickname out of my nickname by calling me Dipp. I can't even remember who was the the first to do that. An yeah, most people don't know my real name either

  • @Fundippsoyeah Was it dev who started the dipp thing? I'm thinking it might have been him.

  • Voldey, Voldey, Voldey! May the litany of Nicknames you get, grow and grow, and GROW! ONE PLATE!

  • @MichaelMidnight I'll make you pay for that, midnight!

  • My current nickname is DEM, and after getting that I decided to use it for my online name too. It came up while I was skyping with some internet friends and it stuck. The cool thing about it is that it stands for different things. One day it could stand for Dark Enigmatic Monster, and the next it could be Don't Eat Meat.

  • @laurenisdem Kinda like how DFTBA stands for a whole collection of things.

  • @Voldey Yeah I hated it at first, but eventually I just accepted it! lol

  • @Voldey They're probably pregnantsluts by now. Also, I love the fact that you actually reply to people who comment, it's very cool.

  • my current nickname is penis.

the story of how that came to be is pretty boring, but the name itself is pretty... interesting.

although, once at a dance i was talking to a boy i just met, and my friend ran up to me screaming "Penis!!!" and I had to explain to said boy why she called me that. thats just a really awful story having to do with a nickname but yeah.

  • @owchihurtmyself I feel like this story would be really interesting to hear.

  • I was in a class with a lot of kids who had the same first name that I did and one got really annoyed with me always turning when people were talking to him and vice versa (btw I'm a girl the name goes both ways) anyway one day he turned around and started calling me Thomas and for some reason it stuck ...that's my nickname story, enjoy.

  • @illegiblytyped That is pretty interesting. I had the same problem when I had another Justin in my class. No one ever gave us a nickname though.

  • The first time I went snowboarding, they nicknamed me Shaun White (like the pro snowboarder), though it being my first time, I'm pretty sure the name was ironic...

  • @OrgasmandTea They were probably saying it ironically. I've been called great hockey players before, but in a mocking manner.

  • There's this kid in my grade who looks like Peter pan so me and a fee of my other friends started calling him: Pan

  • @3MagicMary3 I hope he liked being call pan, I think that would have been pretty cool.

  • I was called Satay for a while like three years ago after my friend made a typo on Facebook (my name is Stacey and she spelt it something like Satacey and then shortened it to Satay...) and also a few years ago, me and a friend had a habbit of typing backwards and so Yecats was born. These nicknames only lasted a few months. My opinion of them was pretty neutral :P

  • @staceyftw It would have been cool if Yecats stuck. That would be pretty unique.

  • I've never had any nicknames .-.

  • @lacerdaflavia I know some people who have never had a nickname either. It isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  • is it weird how i have 3 of those posters of harry potter?

  • @ohsothomas It isn't that weird. I'm sure they're widely available for people to get a hold of.

  • i had countless nicknames in my life, never chose them by myself and now I dont even have a nickname anymore....

  • @judyandthecat You should have picked one and made it stick!

  • @Voldey nah....didn't like most of them. One was "Dolores", because a friend started reading that HP chapter, when I came into the room ....very flattering :D

  • My name is Ellen Heggie - aka Smellin' Eggy. It's just great

  • @TheEllenno I think i'd get annoyed by that nickname really quickly.

  • My name is Isobel and my friends nicknamed me Isoblob. Im not fat or anything, they just thought it was funny

  • @DelightInTheCorner That does sound pretty funny. I'm really glad it isn't used in a mean sense too.

  • My nickname used to be Nan. I miss being called this. It is the result of somebody mispronouncing my name (Hannah) as Nanna. This stuck because I was the youngest amongst that group of friends and Australians love to call people by names that contrast the person. Eg. Calling a redhead Bluey

  • @hannahyep That's pretty cool. I should have my Australian manager teach me more things about australia.

  • One of my close friends calls me Sumo, because I told her that everytime I typed her last name (Dintino) I started typing Dinosaur instead. As revenge, she started calling me Sumo, because my first name begins with Sum.

  • @ElswortNEA That's a good reason to have the nickname sumo. Most other reasons are really mean and distasteful

  • I used to be called Jelly. Then the internet started saying "u jelly" and I told people to stop calling me it.

  • @ReddCarran were they saying "u jelly" as in you're jealous or was it for another reason? I'm glad they stopped calling you that name, most times, the people who make up the nickname don't stop calling you it.

  • @Voldey It was just a random nickname for no reason, but then the internet thought up u jelly and so I decided I didn't want to be called that anymore.

  • I was dubbed Marda in the eighth grade because my friend was opposed to saying the 'th' in my name. It suck all through High School and now College. I kinda like it though. :)

  • @BByrlvr69 It seems like a lot of nicknames start in middle school and continue on through most of high school and then they sometimes follow you into college.

  • I'm nia .

  • Oh and I forgot to add that I've got a workmate who makes up nicknames for me all the time lol. When I beat him at ten-pin bowling and pool, he nicknamed me 'Ninja Bunny' lol. He recently made up, 'Miss Behaved'. I tend to be a troublemaker at times haha.

  • When I was little people used to call me Stasele which is a variation of my second name, but that's because my second name is from past (only old people have them) so that was pretty annoying. Then my nicname somehow changed to knysle (which is a name of a character I acted in a school play, but the word also means a nose of a pig, which is unpleasant, but yeah, I loved this nickname :D) and then.. yeah, then people realised that 5letter name is short and cool enough, so the nicknames stopped :)

  • @taketheumbrella It seems like a lot of nicknames stop when you move into a new chapter of your life.

  • In school I got called washingmachine or omo because my dad fixes washingmachines, dinosaur because someone saw me with a dinosaur book and Freak because they thought me rather odd. One guy wrote his story he had to do in english on the adventures of washingmachine girl where I was trying to talk a washingmachine off the edge of a building XD my friends just call me Ames or Amy or Amykins

  • @ammiella omg. That is still really cool that you got written into a story as someone who kills washing machines.

  • god, I love your posts, and a good day to you, sir!

  • @woodlandfox2112 thank you! It's weird that your students found you through your nickname and not your real name.

  • @Voldey -- no, they learned it after the student teaching was up. (sorry if I misled.)

  • I've had more nicknames in my life than I can remember. My dad rarely ever calls me by my actual name but refers to me mostly as 'Bones', and I have a couple of friends who are the same, but rather than calling me the same name they always come up with a new one each time. Occasionally one sticks but mostly they're more of a one time use thing.

  • @kraVdraAenO Nicknames do become a one time use and then there are others that do become the name that everyone calls you.

  • My name is Lexine and my nickname is pretty much my name shortened. Most people now days call me Lexi and some of my workmates call me Lex :)

  • @lexiz90 I'm that way with a lot of my coworkers. I call them by the shortened versions of their name just because it is easier to say.

  • Comment removed

  • My main nickname is "Shisha" or "Shishabug" because my little cousin couldn't pronounce my name,so it just came out shisha! There are people that strictly call me Shisha, which is pretty cool. I also have the nickname NayNay, 'cause my middle name is Renee. Yeah, it really doesn't make since.(:

  • @AliciaOnline100 naynay kinda rhymes with renee. it kinda makes sense to an extent.

  • The only nickname I had... for a little while was staples. I jumped into a barb wire fence and cut my leg open real good. The dr put in 13 staples to close it up. It stuck for about a week. Now people just call me Jig.

  • @jigarbov I'm going to start calling you staples again.

  • 10 or so years ago, a friend and I decided that one day we would one day be famous writers, and therefore we needed pen names... she decided she wanted to be Lindsey, and I decided I wanted to be Jade. To this day, I call her Lindsey, she calls me Jade, and a few other people I know call me Jade as well :)

  • @JadeSClark That is really cool! Jade is a great pen name.

  • My nickname is Cap'um....of the Mole People...my friends randomly called me that and it stuck...Thanks guys!

  • @ISwishAndFlick I wouldn't want to be the "cap'um of the mole people"! Although, the mole people do need a leader...

  • They call me Gandalf. Cause I'm a wizard.

  • My gym teachers always called me Gabbanator. This started one day when we were playing dodgeball, and I basically eliminated the entire other team. I got hit once, and I decided to say "I'll be back", so the combination of that, my utter annihilation and my name, I became Gabbanator. They also called me Gabbalicious a lot, because if I approved of something I called it "delicious" and then it just became a big thing.

  • @BigGreenMachine3 That's a really cool nickname. I love playing dodgeball. I hurt my thumb the last time I played dodgeball.

  • I received the nickname "Moose" purely because I happened to be standing under a taxidermy-ed head of a moose at the time. It happened a number of years ago, but I still like it!

  • @scribbleXpages Some of my friends call me Moose because I live in Canada.

  • For a long time everyone I knew would call me StephenJohnson (all one word, no pause.) People didn't even call me Steve really until high school, even though I'd always introduced myself as Steve and my family had always called me Steve.

My coworkers in Korea call me Wally because they think I look like Where's Wally.

I also have a Korean name but nobody calls me by it. Ha.

  • @fizzylimon Why don't they call you by your Korean name? I know lots of people who get called by their full names. I don't think they like it.

  • You know what I think about Wayne Gretzky. He was the greatest ever. My nickname has always been "the ed" because my last name is Edelman. The weird thing is that people in college started calling me that even though none of them would have known that it was my nickname in high school also. That nickname just followed me to college.

  • @studentdotcom I'm going to start calling you "the ed" from now on.

  • Around the time i turned six everyone in my family started to call me "pops" because I would take my time with everything....It kind of made me angry because if there's one thing a six year old doesn't want to be known as its the old man. They still call me that but only when I'm not paying attention to them.

  • @IsJamesTheDirector I wouldn't have been happy either if my six year old self was called "pops"

  • When I was in High School GTA San Andreas came out, and anyone who played that game will know the main character is called 'CJ' and with the only one in the year with the initials 'CJ' that's what I've been called since; even my family and co-workers call me CJ.

  • @giveitaread Speaking of San Andreas, I own that game and I still don't know where it is. My mom hid it on me because she didn't want me playing it around my brothers -_-

  • so i kinda made a nickname fro myself. I made a name for myself then told my friends to call me by that, and they did sometimes. but it didn't really catch on until a few years later when like EVERYONE in my grade somehow knew about it. i don't know how that happened. but no one calls me by it anymore so it's whatever.

  • @cfloster I wonder how they all knew about if it nobody called you it for a few years.

  • @Voldey well some people did, but like sparingly. i think it would be better said that it had a slow rise in popularity until it hit full nick name status.

  • luckily my internet name is my real name. Yep, my middle is "the" and my last name is "bravee". So no nicknames there.

  • @emilythebravee I'm going to give my child "the" as a middlename. There's nothing you can do to stop me.

  • I consider my last name my nickname, because a lot of my friends call me by it (and I go to an all girls school, where people are generally referred to by their first name). I've had a couple teachers call me by it, and some of my older friend who used to call my by my first name have switched to calling me by mr last. I rather like it, because my last name has a nice ring to it.

  • @PomLikesBrains My high school nickname go to popular that even some of my teachers started calling me by it.

  • Like if you got here from Wilsontech1

  • My nickname is Big Willy.

    Come at me bro.

  • @wilsontech1 wilsontech!!! i offing love your videos! you're a hardass :D

  • @wilsontech1 Champion among men.

  • @wilsontech1 Please do not use the words 'come' and 'big willy' in the same comment.

    lol

  • @wilsontech1 Bring it, big willy.

  • My family calls me 'Ibit' because when I was learning to spell my name I decided that I didn't like the way 'Brittany' looked on paper. So I changed the spelling and it stuck.

  • @NerdisthewerdYEAH I'm surprised I never shortened my last name because I think it is painful to learn. People who have known me for years still don't know how to spell it properly.

  • The only nickname I ever had was when I was a small child, my Dad used to call me "goober girl" and I don't know about anywhere else in the world, but in Australia that means boogers. Legitimately, my Dad called me snot girl for the first 5 years of my life. Yay, parenting.

  • @lozzzie2007 My dad sometimes brings up the name that my youngest brother would call me when trying learn my name.

  • All of my nicknames come from my name- Vanessa. Nessa, Ness, Nessy, Van, Vanny, V. And one person called me Nesquik because of the drink but it didn't catch on. And then I reserve Van and Vanny to for my parents and middle school friends only because that's when the nickname came about, otherwise I don't care what nickname people call me .

  • @NessaR12 I've never had a nickname that only my parents would call me. I would get embarrassed if my parents ever called me by a nickname.

  • @Voldey I would normally get embarrassed but it's something that I went by a lot, like I wrote it on homework assignments and everything.

  • I literally have 5 different nicknames given to me by different friends and one teacher. It gets super confusing at times. I remember once I was just like "I have no name!" because I got tired of explaining how they all came to be. I've tried telling my friends to just call me by my first name, but that's only worked for people I've met recently...

  • @DreamsMelody I only get tired of explaining my nicknames if it only seems as if they want to know just to make fun of it.

  • my friends call me prigidig and today i was trying to read the word concerto upside down, but was having a blonde moment and said it like "connetico" so i think that may catch on as a nickname haha.

  • @katiewompus I've mispronounced some words and those have become nicknames now. Rather, they're used to mock me too.

  • From here on out you will be known as Wilmer Volderrama.

  • @Rocketfists I think I'll grow to appreciate this as time goes on.

  • Tapey.

  • @someone332 I don't even want to know the backstory behind that.

  • lil britches, cmc

    you know

  • My nickname is Cherry...yeah, it was supposed to be "Cheery" because my friend was like, "It rhymes with Pistachio!" (Which it doesn't even come close to). It's funny how all my nicknames are based off food...

  • @AlwaysPotterhead Thinking about food has now made me hungry. I should go eat.

  • For the most part everyone in my life calls me Toddly. . . not sure how that happened

  • I'm going to knit you a beard cape

  • @Toddly00 I expect to see this on Friday and they probably started calling you toddly because of your username.

  • Wait I totally filled up my character limit and forgot the main thing that people do with my name. They will most usually be names of films/songs/lyrics/phrases that contain any words that rhyme with 'Woy'. For example, woyz II men, woy story, rude woy, if i were a woy, sk8r woy, backstreet woys, woyzone, woys are back in town, etc. I am often referred to as people's 'woyfriend', that's always good'un. I used to be embarrassed of my surname, but it's proven to be pretty popular with most people!

  • Well my nicknames "Jaybird", but I guess that's common for people named Jay. I've never been fortunate enough to make up my own nickname. When I was in high school everyone called me "One ton" mainly because I was kinda fat...ok, very fat. lol Eventually it morphed into "wan ton" which wasn't so bad, even sounded sorta Asian. Then after high school it just went back to Jaybird. btw- I honestly didn't know your real name until I found you on Vyou. Hopefully you'll do a few vids there again.

  • @jfhburr123 I'll definitely use Vyou again. I think I might actually use it again this weekend.

  • occasionally my friends call me hazhaz or hazhaz101 but it's always a little tongue in cheek. it's never serious.

  • @hazhaz101 my friends sometimes call me voldey in a condescending way and I don't like it.

  • In grade 7 we had a list of classroom chores listed on the board, with our names next to them. One day one of my classmates decided to make nicknames from the names and my name (Steph) became Stepharoni. It stuck for the rest of the year, but died off over the summer. A couple of people still call me by that name, though very rarely.

  • @livesnearamill Wayne became a spinoff of wayner and people started calling me that instead of wayner for a couple years.

  • Everyone calls my friend Sarah 'Trevor', but no-one remembers why. As for myself, I've had Darce, Darsage, Arsey Darcey, Dr. G, Nitaly and Nessie.

  • @darceyisntadoctor She had to have been named after some kind of character or something.

  • Amycakes is a thing because I was a hardcore neopets user about 8 years ago hahahah. I still go back every now and then, but back in the day I was part of a big friendship group on one of the forums and my username was/is i_luv_cakes xD oh. I guess overtime my real and user name combined to make Amycakes, which I go by today. I'm also cakes, cakey, cakers and woyski - Woy being my surname, Wojciechowski being the former surname and friends chopped down the unpronounceable to make that. FUN HUH?

  • @Amycakes1 I love cake, omg. I need to get some cake now that you even mentioned cake.

  • +++ An example of THAT is "Boots"... because I wear boots ALL THE TIME (during the Fall and Winter at least)

  • -I haven't...

    -AGREED

    -hahaha awesome

-Why did you make that your username?

-There's a guy at my church whom everybody calls "Vegas" because he used to live in... VEGAS ;)

A lot of people don't even KNOW his real name xD

-Most of the nicknames that I've gotten are horrible ones from my siblings... but most of the other nicknames I got were because the giver of the nickname had trouble remembering my REAL name.

    *hug*

  • @iLeaveYouWithHugs I made it my username because I had finished reading Order of the Phoenix and I decided shortening voldemort would be cool.

  • @Voldey ohh haha cool!

Side note! Cool lookin banner ;)

  • I had a very odd nickname of Locker. It started out because my name is David and one of my friends started to call me Davy. Then they called me Davy Jones. Then someone thought it would be a good idea to call me Davy Jones' Locker. Then they shortened it to Locker.

  • @ThatPokemandude That's pretty cool. Never would I have imagined Locker coming from David.

  • Nice Jack's Mannequin shirt!

You should have said "And if you don't know who Wayne Gretsky is, you're clearly not Canadian, eh?" LOL! jk I'm not sure i have any real nicknames, definitely nothing that is consistent.

  • @alwaystextback Thanks, dude! The concert was so good!

  • I got the nickname Maddog in middle school while on a band trip. I won't go into the whole story, but I made a somewhat inappropriate joke and the name Maddog stuck. When I went away to University the nickname slowly faded away, even though I still use it for my online handle most of the time. Now people just call me Kyle, my actual name. Boring!

  • @Maddog53 Inappropriate jokes are always the funniest ones when nicknames are involved.

  • mines nickname is Kirbby Emoton cause my friends name was izzy mcgoth and gir punknek

all characters from a game and or a show and goth, punk and emo

  • @TheS3cretAznMan those names are pretty cool. I would have wanted a nickname from the sonic games if I ever got one from a video game.

  • I have too many nicknames, but the one that you remember me by is obviously--ween.

  • @Witified I remember you by a different nickname that you refuse to accept. muaaahha

  • In Dutch, Chip and Dale (the chipmunks from Disney) are called something like 'Talkey' (because one talks a lot) and 'Munchy' (or something, it's really hard to translate, because one eats a lot).

One summer I worked at a Ben and Jerry's Shop with my best friend. There wasn't much work because we didn't have a lot of customers, so she always talked all the time, and I would eat quite a lot of icecream. So after a while she became Talkey and I was Munchy :)

  • @CookieLoverrr I loved Chip and Dale so much. That is so cool that you two were named after them!

  • In biology last year, I was in a group with two of my friends and someone else who I know from band.. well, the 3rd person didn't know my name, so when he asked me what it was, one of my friends spoke up and said Eugene! So I'm Eugene in some cases...

And then we decided to give Eugene another name to go with it, which became Alfredo... It fits if you compare alfredo sauce with my skin.. and then my name became Sydney Alfredo.

  • @SydneyAlfredo I love playing jokes on people and telling them my name is something different. I tried telling someone at work I was born in russia and that my name is really voldey. It worked for a couple hours.

  • My name is Jennifer. People call me Brenda. Mostly because there were a couple Jennifer's in my class freshman year and they told me I looked like a Brenda. It stuck until senior year. :|

Oh, and people also used to call me
