  • The fact that a guy who stands next to Petrucci on a stage every night shows that kind of reaction is telling me all I need to know...

  • Heh, camera guy was trying hard not to headbang

  • 278 and adding, have working tastebuds and love James Labrie's humor

  • Sfogli is the real deal. Heard him for the first time on Elements of persuasion, after which I researched his past. He has a lot of speed, yet is soulful as well - not an easy blend! He was greatly influenced by Petrucci, and one can certainly hear that coming through. What's nice is that he is not a Petrucci copy, but someone who made his own style. I would have this guy in my band any day

  • 8 people don't know how a real guitar player do his job... ¬¬

  • 8 people didn't find it tasty.

  • Youtube joking aside, I actually have an erection.

  • ....amature! :P

  • Haha James is a nut. It's totally Andy Timmons, eh!

  • lol, bit of an over reaction from james don't you think? I mean its cool, but o_0

  • @Nathankthanks But it's a first take improv. That's impressive.

  • @diabeticmonkey It is impressive. I just find James' reaction funny.

  • No comment... Just great!

  • Lololol I love moments like that in the studio

  • The background commentary is self-explanatory xD

  • marco quando ancora aveva i capelli XD

  • who's Andy Timmons?

  • @gotcalves You Tube him and you'll know who he is and feel real bad for not knowing. He's the one of the tastiest, most talented guitar players in the world. Very well known for the spectacular tone he gets through his signature Ibanez guitar and Mesa Lone Star amps (Stiletto's too in fairness). He's become like Mesa's spokesperson for the Lone Star amp and Ibanez just reissued his original signature guitar

  • tasty indeed

    mmmmm cheeseburger

  • Yes tasty

  • hey you dummies,,not compare guitarist anymore.. each of one has their own creative and style playing...just listen and learn ok

  • ahahahahahah!!! ok ho capito tutto alla fine!

  • Totally petrucci.

  • yes i'm really apoint with the comments about,,he´s and excelent player and he has to own he´s own influences,,that is music all about,,,,influences,,,not copies

  • u r a guitar freak

  • 0:21 Marco: Ok guys don't suck my dick just yet! Really, it's ok!

  • TOADULLY ANDY TIMMUNS-EHHH??

  • I think we're all forgetting that Vinnie Moore smokes petrucci on guitar.

Marco "sounded" like petrucci but hes nearly developed his signature sound.

  • @maxomilian hahahaha vinnie moore couldn't even keep up with petrucci

  • @Gu1tari5t Lol. Damn dude ,obviously you've never heard vinnie play. Ive never seen a guitarist progress as much as he has, he went from neoclassical to metal/hard rock, funk and fusion . Listen to his newest album To The Core hes changed alot listen to the outro solo of panic attack(not DT panic attack).

Petruccis awesome ,an amazing rythm player and composer, but i find vinnie more creative and better soloist.

  • @maxomilian To each his own, but I like petruccis solo style, so melodical and technical

  • @maxomilian bro, I LOVE vinnie, but the progress you're talking about isn't that huge :P

    Again, I LOVE vinnie!

  • @Gu1tari5t you dunno shit ;)

  • hair raising

  • James, I like you but this time you jacked off to that guy. that guy not close to john, why do you never tell good stuff to Petrucci! and that solo will not blow peoples mind!!!! Petrucci DOO!!!!

  • @JoseAnge7 dude you dont know shit :)

  • its not impro he plays that on record as well stop spreading bullshit

  • @guitarfan1979 If that's the first take, chances are it is most probably improvisation... The final cut would then be shaped around it if the band, producer or guitarist likes it...

  • @nickmatthew isnt that what majority of solos come from anyway? improv? some people are very good at just arranging music. but most of the time it is improvised. and if it catches and clicks with the song, it sticks.

  • fuck

  • James said 'eh'! He truly is the Canadian. :)

  • I just can't believe this thing came out of his head on the 1st Take O.o

  • this has the got composition quality that Vito Bratta had

  • amazing player

  • @ross2992dimebag is that a bad thing? I dont see it tho

  • he's like a good mix of Petrucci and Andy Timmons. TASTY.

  • Agreed.

  • @MrBlackBone82

    My thoughts exactly.

  • @yanava this guy wouldnt play like that without the influence of john petrucci in his playing...period.

  • @yanava Hey man dont say that...No one Rapes No one...Marco and JP plays awesomeness from theyr guitars..now there is One difference Between then.John has History and he plays on a Band.that has one of (best drummers in the world)Best Keyboard player in the word,ONE OF BEST BASSIST IN THE WORLD...How come people wont appreciate more JP than Marco...well for me they'r both Guitar God's.

  • haha, no way, l2music

  • fantastico.......e' uscito in maniera cosi' fluida, bravo Marco

  • Wait that guitar is a Petrucci, AM I RIGHT?

  • yes youre right

  • @Carlos15ag Maybe, but probably not. It's most definantly a Musicman which is also Petrucci's guitars signature type..

but there are other signature muscicman guitars

  • I think your right.I have a few Ernie Ball guitars and I think John has 6or7 sig models and the only one Ive seen that did not have a Piezo system was his sig 7string.But there may be a model 6 string with it from other years. But looking at it Id say no.

  • very goodddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

    you my idol

    from thailand

  • blow peoples minds is damn right

  • @sweeptapper wow man, he's truly a brilliant player

  • "that is freakin tasty man!"

    agreed.

  • I come from thailand

    i like you

    you idol for me

  • fucking totally andy timmonds eh is what he says, him being canadian and all.

  • I fucking totally andy timmons better thats what he said.

  • fucking totally andy timmons

  • He should have carried on surely,Belting solo!

  • Marco has a huge influence from Andy... great tone and phrasing... James caught him!!!

  • originally James wanted Andy to play on the album, but Andy couldn't make it because of his schedule...i think it came out best this way, because now we got to know Marco, what might not happened other ways

  • What did he say about Andy Timmons? :)

  • "That is totally Andy Timmons"

  • "f*ck, it's TOTALLY Andy Timmons" or something like that, haha James LaBrie cracks me up :D

  • why do you bother censoring yourself when you've already said 3/4 of the word?

  • that is some powerful playing there!

  • He looks like Fedor..? Great stuffs....

  • lol

  • Damn, that was an amazing impro

  • I like Petrucci and Sfogli, as well as many other guitarists, these guys are worthy of respect for the dedication they show. Impro skills are different from being a soloist (gobs on YT) or a solo writer (e.g. put it together over a long series of takes and re-do's, then record and repeat live). People like Holdsworth define impro ability, that's why guys like Petrucci and Satriani revere him. I've heard Petrucci impro live and he's quite good, I'm sure Sfogli is good at it too.

  • and also.. you say he is improvising because you read it on the description.... don't believe everything you read.. sucker.

  • well obviously it was an improvisational piece at one point you dumb shit, considering he wrote it.

the fact that he can retain a lick and reproduce it on the album and on live shows shows a lot for his musicianship.

  • you are obviously retard.... you contradict yourself all the time... with that argument I can say the same about petrucci.... are you stupid???? are ore you on first grade???. I like marco an john... Marco is a genuis.. both are great... but you cant' say petrucci can't imporvise... one of the most respected guitarist in the world.... . If you consider yourself a guitarsit you can't say that... unless you can play shit. And i think that's the case.

  • you need to brush up on your English because i was saying that both are excellent improvisers.

  • you're retarded right?, Marco is a phenomenal guitar player, and petrucci is a phenomenal player, they are both better then each other in different ways, you cant say that one is better then the other,

  • @JohnnyMKV Petrucci is better. There i said it. Watchu gonna do about it ho?

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001 lolwut

  • @JohnnyMKV Spare the frequently taut mindless fluff. Its easy to say who is better than who as long as you have valid points. John Petrucci redefined prog in the late 80s and still today is highly respected as one of the more influential modern metal guitarists. Marco just solos over shit. Theres always a bigger fish. Stop trying to be so damn nicer than you really are, its sickening.

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001 Marco just solos over shit ...... lmfao nice one dude you are either a troll or stupid.

  • @Dazzler59 Calling someone a troll/stupid without backup. Check

Pretending to "lmfao" at your computer screen in hopes to irritate opposition and repress hatred. Check.

Baseless argument and poor reasoning skills. Check.

Congrats. Your are part of the lowest common denominator of the internet.

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001 I think you just added weight to my original comment

  • @Dazzler59 explain...

  • grande marco!

  • That was amazing, the energy in the room explodes at the end!

  • hahaha sometyhing we can ever do is compare John with marco theyr both from different world's and both plays awesome..petrcucci has History and ive been listening to petrucci since the first DT album, than L-T-E.Petrucci plays more than u thing and ofcourse Marco is one of the Kind !!

    Go marco !!!

  • Yes we can! Petrucci can't improvise worth shit! All his solos are memorized note for fucking note and at times he sounds boring as hell! When you listen to his performance its easy to to tell what he's playing is scripted!

  • dude check out the improvisation he made in the DVD in tokyo...... And what do you say about G3 show???.. don't talk if you don't know....

  • well excuse him for actually preparing for a show, and given the fact that he wrote those solos in the first place makes you a huge idiot. get a life, you dont know him personally you dont know of his improvisational skills.

  • i'm shure your are friend of both marco and john..... .. you make me laugh.... no seas pene por favor...... ignorantee.....

  • What does LaBrie says about Andy Timmons? I cannot figure it out.

  • "totally andy timmons aye"

  • I believe he says "It's totally Andy Timmons eh!." lol

  • wow i think this guy has much more cooler chops compared to petrucci...listen to his solo album and labries

  • his solo album is like a mix between petrucci and timmons.

  • he is great man!!!

  • I like how he doesn't realise how fucking epic that was when he finished it haha really shows how much natural talent this guy has. Definately inspiring me.

  • He's a damn monster :D God should take lessons from him!!

  • Yeah I'm sure he could teach Chuck Norris a thing or two.

  • he is great, this song is great, the solo is awesome, but i really think that he should buy his own guitars or have some company making his own guitars (he has the level and the fame), so he can give all those jp amazing guitars to me!!!

  • he does. its a company called "rash" from italy, its very similar to the JP model..the finihses are lush aswell. reagards

  • he have one dah

  • He is from Italy and yes, he is a guitar god!

  • O.o

  • marco sfogli is one of the best on this planet

  • Is JLB holding the camera?

  • naw man... James is the other guy in the shot. You can tell because he says 'eh' at the end of his sentence, which is a noticeably canadian trait.

  • Holy shit haha - thats the best improvisation ever! I knew that solo kicks ass, but I had no idea it was a first take improvisation!

    Sick guitarist!

  • This guy is just amazing.

Look the video "understanding", it's the same.. he just wrote the perfet solo first take.

Who can tell me he's not a genius? ;)

  • i found an understanding cover because i was watching some dude playing covers of shawn lane.

That solo is amazing, but it's not on the records in the US. Can't find the track.

  • that's just amazing. all the guitar work on elements of persuasion kicks ass.

  • ok seriously now

WHAT A TASTY AWESOME BADASS KICKASS solo was that?

    marco kciks SO much ass

  • I guess the reason why the camera is shaking is because the guy is headbaning. Haha, can't blame him though! =)

  • When i heard Elements of Persuasion this guy blew my mind, i love the way he sounds like John Petrucci, Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson, and Eddie Van Halen at the same time! This guy is great!

  • He says "totally andy timmons aye"

  • lol love the "aye"

  • It's "eh" not "aye" :P

Take it from a fellow Canadian.

  • He's a Canadian, not a pirate.

  • @markdaddy I'm pretty sure that was James LaBrie talking. Him being Canadian, he definetely said "totally Andy Timmons Eh?"

  • @markdaddy he said "eh" hes canadian eh

  • what a great soloing is that

  • No comparation possible between Petrucci and this guy....I liked Petrucci but Sfogli is very very melodic and tasty.

  • wtf he sounds like petrucci...

  • stop arguing Jp Marco and Satch are all awsome.. stop being a fuckin kid

  • man, JP has nothing on this guy

  • Damn straight from labrie, I bought his album, and was like wtf? sounds like petrucci and timmons sick mix, I now own Marco's solo album very awesome also.

  • yeah his solo album is mind blowing!

  • wow. good stuff!

  • Search him :)

  • What does James says at the end ??

  • totally andy timmons eh

  • yes, he is a guitarist..and a very good one...he is a former member of 80's glam rock danger danger..but his solo stuff is really great..check out his cry for you song here on youtube:)

  • Sorry...geez, I play drums, I don´t know so many guitarists...my fav. guitarplayesr are MacAlpine, Petrucci, Malmsteen(Old stuff), Dave murray, Dimebag, and a bunch others!

  • like I said, no problem:) there is nothing wrong with you not knowing so many guitarists..:) I don't know a lot about famous drummers either:P but the ones you mentioned are real legends!!! keep on rockin', thelycandraven

  • yes listen to "Andy timmons - september"

  • salty Andy Timmons

  • negative rating? wtf. the two high notes at the end of 00:13 dipshit. harmonic = unfretted note.

  • they weren't

  • No. You have natural harmonics (putting your finger on the string at a certain fret without pushing it down) and pinch harmonics ("pinching" the chord with your thumb to create a squealing sound). There are no harmonics from 00:13 and 00:15.

  • that gap from 00:13 to 00:15 was perfect. were they harmonics? sounded like em. awesome player

  • lol?

  • Do you know what a harmonic is? Or are you deaf.

  • I hate how youtubers feel the need to insult. Man, he just isn't too familiar with them maybe, it's ok. No shame, you didn't know it either at one point. There's no need to be rude.

    Peace

  • well if you are sucha expert in musical theory than please tell me what modal scales does he use when he is playing this solo...:)

  • No idea man, my best guess is either mixolydian or harmonic minor

  • no there's no harmonic minor in there at all. its natural minor, and its all about his phrasing that makes it sound so incredible despite the simple scale he uses there

  • Pretty sure he's using a natural minor scale. I never said I was an expert in musical theory, though.

  • James talks funny when hes happy! Haha

  • YOU BLEW MY FUCKIN MIND!

  • I thought they were Mark IV's. There is a Mark V coming out from what I am told and it is basically a more user friendly Mark IV....I think! The Mark IV is the worlds greatest tone generator but a little complicated to really operate properly. Speaking strictly tone..... Walter Trout can make a Mark IV sound like an open wound. Yea, a wound.

Marco is incredible and I agree more Timmons than JP!

  • is that petrucci's guitar? hehe

  • Yeah, thats a Petrucci signature. Marco got them from Petrucci himself.

He has his own signature guitar now (from Rash guitars) which looks similar to Petruccis Musicman.

  • I really don't see why LaBrie says something like that when he's been in a band with Petrucci for how long, rofl.

  • lol right?? this dude is good tho i'll have to admit

  • Yeah I absolutely love his solo album (There's Hope), simply amazing.

  • umm, maybe he enjoys good music regardless? Labrie is a cool guy. Canadians are fun.

  • Because Marco has alot more feeling in his playing than Petrucci. !!!I'M AM NOT TRYING TO SAY ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER!!!!

  • He doesn't have more " feeling " in his playing, what you're talking about is what kind of music they chose to play.

  • "It's totally Andy Timmons.." lol
