Agreed about the design, but have to say it now reminds me of a 2 wheel Mini Metro!! BMX wil boxes on it, I remember a wee guy down the street was dead set on getting one and he was 'gonna ride by and program it to play didi di di di dididi di di di di' (Dukes of Hazzard horn). Shame it would have sounded like a transistor radio!! Funnily enough, the bike never appeared.......

it's actually worth a small fortune now today ! had the white version , stepped up from the 16" wheeled raleigh wildcat , the one with the thumb button for sfx , recently sold a raliegh burner from 1984 for 470£ on ebay !

kinda wish i had kept it now , but am gonna use the funds to restore a 80's skyway i have in the loft .

i had this bike it was a nightmare! I had a bmx before this and all my mates had bmx's. This thing weighed a tonne!! Once I got bored of the way it looked and the noises I was gutted! I couldn't race it or jump on it! Gutted lol

Reminds me of my old Raleigh Grifter which I still have in the garage. It weighed a ton and was impossible to do wheelies on etc, but I loved the look of it and the motorbike style gear change. As a kid I modded it with a DIY digital speedometer, lights, sirens and other stuff. The last time I rode it was in the summer of 1985 and it was way too small for me even then.

I rescued a white one of these from a tip a few months ago, just cleaning it up now and re-wiring it so hopefully it'll play those BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS lol. Then I'll see how embarrassing it is to ride... even though I desperately WANT to haha

I had one of these also, in Black, with No radio, and no Gears.

It WAS very heavy, 3 speed Sturmey Archer Gears like on the Grifter would have been mint.

Even If I found one on Ebay now, I dont think i'd have the bollocks to ride around donning those digital sounds!!

They use them sounds on the £1 Blagg kids mobile phones!

I want a pair of the LED Sunglasses from back in the day though!

Like Stevie Wonders, only with LED's across the top of them!!

I actually had one of these beauties!! Still remember the Christmas morning when it was in the kitchen waiting for me, I could not believe it! I knew all about it, as had seen one in a Raleigh shop and in a magazine I think. I also had the special brochure that Raleigh made for it, so to actually own one was amazing. It felt like it was the bike equivalent to owning a Ferrari or Aston Martin!! :) I had the delux version, with the 3 modules. Anyone know what the 2 empty panels were for?

Awh man, I remember wanting one of these so much as a kid to do the "paper round" on... A white one though.

Now looking at photos of the white model on Google I'm pleased the parents denied my requets.. Man, I'd have looked a right PLUM riding around on that!

Those sound effects bring back memories! I had the black one (so much cooler than the white) and my God it was heavy! I can't believe I biked from Hull to Hornsea on it! I eventually outgrew it and sold it to my younger cousin. Great times.

I had the black one, my memories of it were that it was too heavy to ride uphill so you had to get off and push it but going down hill you would fly, also once it rained on the console the damn thing stopped working haha

I had the black one but I didnt have a radio fitted to mine. I was told only the white ones were fitted with the radio and the gears. I'd love to buy a mint one, brings back good memories. I got 31mph down hill on mine back in 1987/88

Fab, I had one of these with a red frame and white panels - I never got the radio to work properly though even with the accessory antenna fitted. It was heavy! but with 3 speed hub gears must have been the only BMX with gears?

Me and my Brother got these the day they came out, the black versions were very limited and we were lucky to get the last 2 in the store.

If only we knew then what true classics these things were - an yes, every kid and there dad wanted to ride it! :P

Wow, can't believe this. Your one is mint. I never knew there was a black version. Well cool. i had the White computer with red frame. It was well fast with the 3 speed hub. Heavy as hell but though as nails.

I wan't to buy oe again. Just to hang on the wall. i bet a kid even today would love one of these. A true classic

I got a raleigh vektar when they came out, and mine was a white computer pad, and had more functions, and pedals on the handle bars, never saw the black version before, I never kent there was a black one

I remember these VERY clearly, I wanted one so bad, but my dad considered it too gimmicky so I never got one, these bikes were launched around 1985/86 and were available in either white or black. I eventually got another Raleigh first though, in 1992, an Activator which was the first ever mountain bike to feature suspension forks, it's still hanging in my garage 15 years later!
