@JUsherTrigga Well yeah, it's fine by me, except that this video is not mine heheh.... Butsure, if you need something or if you need to quiote my opinion, go ahead, I don't mind. :)
@TheYaom OOOOOH MY GOSH!!! Now I feel suicidal... Justin Bieber!!! That's it, life today sucks!!! ***taking gun to my head and firing... BOOM!***
No, seriously. The lead vocalist of Herman's Hermits was also like 15 but at least their music was kinda cool and playful. Bieber should be put away in a kennel somewhere until it's legal to throw him in jail!!!
Dig the groovey silver dress at @ 8:10 to 8:14, beautiful I would wear that today. Lovely!! Granny Takes a Trip was a very famous store, I had heard about that store in the late 60's early 70's and I live in the States.
Great to see Chelsea again as it was then. I grew up just off the Kings road and was 16 years old in 1967 the first "summer of love" so naturally hung out at the hip cafes & pubs and bought my flares from groovy boutiques, it was a gas alright. Call me old fashioned but I still love the mini skirts
I worked in Carnaby Street and Kings Road at this time, and it is wonderful to see this footage as there are lots of faces that I knew and one or two that I still do.
It was a wonderful period in my life, and I so enjoyed going to work everyday, as you never knew who you would be serving, as everyday someone famous from the movie and music scene would come in to buy the latest fashions. And if a time machine was available, I would go back like a shot, I also would love to be that young again.
....where women and men still had class & style, god for me it seems like paradise on earth... i don't wanna watch tv anymore, you turn it on and either you hear bad news or see naked ppl.
I hate this decade, I'm in... cuz i was born 60 years to late.
I grew up in the 60's, take me back please!! I have a 60's car in garage, all I need is a flux capacitor??? like back to future, and I'm off back to 1960 watch the 60's develop, room for 4 others in car. God wishful thinking eh!
Ooh I remember "Granny takes a Trip" and "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet". Same time as Freddie Mercury was running a trendy stall in Kensington (indoor) Market! those were the days!
Great reference to the resurgence of fashion through thrift shopping! to think in the sixties you could find things from the twenties. Now I'm lucky to find intact fashionable things from the eighties. Is it me or is the quality of clothing just shot to hell? What happened to quality fabrics and sewing? Oh yeah nafta!
I really wish I could have live in the 60/70s... Back then people wern't as judgeing, everyone was more free. But it seems now we have a strict code to follow in our lives and we have to be molded into good little boys and girls and listen to society.
"They say London swings. It doesn't. Not even the King's Road Chelsea. But here and there among the conformist fat cat crowds, is a lean cat or two, looking like it might swing, given some encouragement." Brilliant.
it's funny when the girl is trying on the flapper girl clothes from the 1920's and the commentator says "this ladies time machine is heading for the flapper world of the 20's, a trip many a time traveller would love to take". Im so convinced i was born in the wrong decade but i guess we'd all love to go back....
The fashions looks so crazy and free for all and they really were but if you think about it, most were doing what others were doing because it was the fashion like people do today. If you go back and look, while the quality was indeed superior to the junky off the rack crap available today, those clothes were still being sold in mass quantities off the rack to a fashion saavy youth. Not entirely counterculture but indeed much more playful and different, not trashy and arrogant.
Everything about the 60 and 70 was fantastic. Their fashion and styling was a million times better than what we have today. Back then one could get away with wearing a bowler hat on the street where as now people are immediately branded homosexuals for even the slightest departure from mainstream fashion, which is based on silly diets and crap designer clothing. Todays fashion and styling sucks.
@AEF091 Not to mention people are lazy with their styles and couldn't care less about detail. And there are more fat people nowadays when in the 60's there were hardly any fat people. This is because everyone went out during the day and came back in the evenings and watched tv and films. They didn't have all the technology we have now. It was better back then and they relied on themselves.
That looks like so much fun, shopping in those hip and trendy shops! I wonder if the prices were good. It''s neat to see that a lot of these fashions have come back. It seems like I saw a lot of these type of styles in the 80s. Now, 20 years after that, you see the styles coming back.
It's hilarious that half the comments here are about decades -- "I love the 60s" What about the 80s?" "The 50s were better". Why be so constrained by some arbitrary numbers? Pop culture and music and all elements of human history are just part of progressions and cycles. We haven't 'lost' 60s fashion; it's just morphed over time into '00s fashion. And some day in the future it will cycle back around in force.
Also, isn't the video here about London and style and 'hip-cats', not decades, anyway?
I was there!! I visited Carneby street and the Kings road back in the 60s it was a fanatastic time!!so many lovely girls,so little time so many women lol!!
The commentary was a bit sarcastic and cynical - at 2:37 "This Kings Road that London is lumbered with" or at 2:58 "some of the young with little to say yes to". If I saw that advert in a cinema, I'd chuck my Kia-Ora at the screen in disgust!
@seventhsheaven Actually, if you go to stores today you can find a HUGE assortment of paisley styles, and minidresses and stuff... the trick is to eliminate the leggins and add nylons for a more 60's look. The 60's female fashion was so coquettish I think one way or another you can always find a touch of it in every era.
Love it!! Thanks for sharing this. I was born in england..6/7/67. Summer of Love...a bit young too remember, but i can feel it sort of. This is a better living vision/facet of humanity, then killing, & endless wars. "whaa happened?" ...cycles/waves, i guess. d'oh! Peace=harmony=balance=love

Fashionistas are just as stupid today.
Wait, the 60s was a cultural revolution compared to the idiots today!

There was a Granny Takes A Trip in New York in the 70's. It was a great shop but the people who ran it were assholes.

The commentary was a bit sarcastic and cynical - at 2:37 "This Kings Road that London is lumbered with" or at 2:58 "some of the young with little to say yes to". If I saw that advert in a cinema, I'd chuck my Kia-Ora at the screen in disgust!

Wow at the girl changing the record for the shop's music. Just shows how technology has changed.
I hope there'll be a bigger sixties revival some time soon. We can't just keep dredging up the eighties time and time again.

@seventhsheaven Here Here!...id like to see some styles from the 20's
macabrechaos 1 year ago
@seventhsheaven Actually, if you go to stores today you can find a HUGE assortment of paisley styles, and minidresses and stuff... the trick is to eliminate the leggins and add nylons for a more 60's look. The 60's female fashion was so coquettish I think one way or another you can always find a touch of it in every era.
