@goldcoastflyer Updates- I have gotten the #1 engine to run, I have even had the locomotive moving on its own using just the #1 end. I have jacked up the locomotive and removed the #2 gearbox. The heat press on the high speed bull gear has failed. I was in the process of finding a shop that could press the bearings off the shaft and cut keyways into the shaft and gear. The injection pump and injectors have been rebuilt for the #1 engine.
@goldcoastflyer I have ceased to work on the engine, as the SCRM has decided it isn't a high enough priority project to fund at this time. I will continue to tinker with it as I have time and money. I will try to take an update video soon of her moving under her own power. Thanks everyone for the support.
@steamman5320 Im sorry to hear that, but good luck with your work on it. What would you estimate the complete restoration cost on this locomotive? and would it be possible to find one for sale?
Wow they sure dont make things like they used too 70 years old or so wow when the chips are down and you can make some biodiesel you are in business man ! Like that scene from mad max beyond thunderdome
Congradulations on getting your engine started! I volunteer for a tourist railroad in Grand rapids Ohio. we have a whitcome 44 tonner that one of our members restored. It runs great but has a water leak. Good luck on getting the other engine to start and your restoration!
I remember being on this locomotive at the old Charleston Naval Base. I also got lucky enough to tour the old round house there. I'm so glad to see her in Winnsboro now. Thankfully your far from Lexington/ West Columbia. Viewer 7,777
@SAXRTProductions The sister engine (#1?) is running at Greenfield VIllage in Dearborn Michigan (lettered for the Naval Ammunition Depot, Charleston, SC, could be a different place)
@SantaFe158 Yeah the weapons depot is another base. Unlike what people think, it;s still open and very much in operation. It's known as the Goose Creek Naval Station. Do you have any Idea what happened to some of the rolling stock that was at Charleston? I know a good portion of the tank cars we're cut up.
@SAXRTProductions All I know is that the 45 ton diesel is at Greenfield Village and has been since before I was born. I really don't know much about it's background history (I'm sure I could find out though)
Would like to see another video of it but in a new paint job, of the navy colors
