  • Thanks for posting this. This was shot using a IPhone?? This explains the giggling then.

As for Online communities versus Social networks, I wonder which of the two would tend to encourage more weak ties to be formed.

With OCs, community members tend to be similar in some aspects due to common interests...

  • @Aarontaycheehsien aaah... why would shooting with iphone explain the giggling? would a pro camera make it better? I think it was just because students had very little time to prepare mentally for this, and suddenly having someone shoot a video in class is kind of funny... plus we're generally a happy giggling class :)

as for oc vs sns, i don't know for sure, i'd think oc generates more weak ties (as % of total ties created on a platform), but not that sure about it

  • Yes i guess OC would allow you to quickly "know" people just because they share one common interest with you = weak ties. On the other hand, because they are likely to be similar to you, possibly knowing the same things as you.. they would be less useful sources of information?

  • @Aarontaycheehsien good point, that may be so indeed!

  • Is this video under one of the CC licenses too?

  • @Junlin10 not (yet), the music only (which is one reason i used it). I think that can license the entire video under CC after getting permission from the students who appear on it! then we can also invite remixes :)

  • @nm4881a Great stuff! Hmm but since its for non-commercial use, aint the placing of advertisements onto the video (by youtube) blurs this line?

  • @darr3nchoo yes, well, we haven't decided on the license yet but unfortunately when we publish on youtube we also implicitly accept their terms. there is actually other and in some ways better websites for publishing video but i went with youtube because i think we should first learn from and exploit the size of the mainstream established players

(always wanted to do that, to see whether it actually feels good :)

  • @giorgoscheliotis ...in hindsight, it doesn't, it just feels stupid. ok, suspicions confirmed... now hoping for some more interesting comments below :D
