And there are 9 morons who haven't understood anything about music, live music, musicians, live musicians performance, about Sting, about Vinnie Colaiuta, about how hard this is, about how easily they do it, about art, about being an artist... There are 9 idiots who haven't understood anything about life itself... May the creator him/herself be merciful to these persons despite their ignorance...
Seven Days was originally written and made with Vinnie on the drums at Lakehouse, I always remember passing Vinnie near Lakehouse, He drives like he plays drums!
This drumming works on so many levels in terms of technique, taste, feel, and execution. Sting provided the vehicle and Vinnie put mag wheels with a racing slick on it and took that band on a beautiful ride!
Vinnie is a brilliant musician indeed, but I get up set with those comments from musicians that do not feel the melody or even the beauty of this song. They look for music only in a technical manner...music must be arises from the soul...
Vinnie C. is without doubt the coolest, baddest most tasteful cat to ever put wood to metal! 2:10 - 2:17...O M G.....such a tasteful little fill from the master ironsmith :)
I was wondering where all the real inteligent comments were guess i found some real musicians or music lovers i agree great line up and the ability to make odd time feel straight.awsome!!ps omar hakeem no slouch on blue turtles either peace god bless
@BlueAcred 5/4 sure is weird for such a song, but it sounds really cool here. Sting often uses odd time signatures in ways that sound surprisingly natural, esp. on the Ten Summoners' Tales and Mercury Falling albums (the latter to a lesser extent). St. Augustine In Hell and the verse parts of Love Is Stronger Than Justice are other examples of Sting's ingenuity regarding odd times. If there was ever such a genre as Prog Pop, Sting would be the perfect fit.
@roguestout Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers & Sting-O. Having said that, I do love this band as well. This is the best line up Sting played with outside of The Police. Cheers.
@roguestout I don't know, but I thought his first solo line up was pretty friggen sweet, Kenny Kirkland, Brandford Marsalis, Omar Hakim, and Daryll Jones, with Dollette McDonald and Janice Pendarvice singing backups... that band was tight.
Incredible! I saw them live in '96 in NZ and that was the greatest concert I've ever seen. Sting has always had the finest band in pop music by far. Absolutely phenomenal.
In every vid I've seen of Sting playing this song with Vinnie Colaiuta, he always gives him a couple extra bars at the end of the last bridge so he can put in some kick-ass fill.
@TheMissOuLaLa at 04:35, there is a cut in the videosegment, where it skips to the end of the concert.. So he has probably been off stage before the encore and changed shirt, yes.
hey all, i had to learn seven days for a gig recently. and while searching youtube to see how guys are playing the drum part live, i found that there are no proper covers of this tune on youtube. and no one was playing the ending like vinnie did on the album. anyways, above i have posted my take on seven days. check it out, and let me know what you think. its the one titled "seven days - sting (new eternity version)
Vinnie is not a drummer .. is "the" drummer! I do not know another versatile as he is. I can not figure out what is pleasing to those 8 people who voted "I do not like" .. but perhaps prefer Slipknot !!!!!!
This song allways gives me chills. Like quickly flying low over land at mach 1.5 or somthing. Vinnies' "on top"& "quick" feel brings this mind picture. And executed as allways, with the highest virtuosity possible on the kit.
Whenever they get to the really complicated drum parts, instead of showing vinnie whaling away, they show the building, or Sancious's fingers, or Sting. Grrr...
As good as the drumming is, Sting's like Ginger Rogers, singing and playing a difficult bass line at the same time. He's really, really good at that art.
Wow, I wonder if this is late in the tour. Just looks like they are up there just cruising along. Unbelievable. Vinnie is on his game. Half expected to hear him throw some double bass fills in there. Top notch! HA, not to many haters commenting on this video. I don't think there is anything to hate here. It's unnanimous, Vinnie is the shizzle.
Sting pays the best musicians in the world to play with him and he gets perfection.
He's pretty perfect as well. What a combination of great players and great music. This song highlights all the skills of all players which is what happens when you see Sting in Concert! Thanks for the share.
Vinnie playing with Sting, for me, is the best drumming ever! He lays a mixture of groove, finesse and complex, out of this world fills, that fits the music perfectly while letting it breathe beautifully.
Simply amazing! God bless Vinnie Colaiuta, my favorite drummer :-D
Amazing. This is not human indeed. Vinnie in any case, but playing the bass that way and singing at the same time is amazing too.. whew. Thanks for posting and thanks to these great musicians for sharing their gifts.
@rock4550 Don't allow that to make you feel like shit.....turn that around, and make it motivate you! Motivation....it's so much more productive....I am sure Vinnie would rather it be positive for you than negative.
I have always respected Sting for not only being a great pop song writer but also for hiring some of the worlds best musicians to play with him with one exception ........out of the 70++million gtr players on this planet, was there no one better then F'n Dominic Miller--CHEEZUS CRIPES!! Put your shirt back on DOM and learn how to play f'n gtr - RANT OVER and OUT!
Are you serious? Dominic Miller not a great gtr player? He's fantastic!! he's been Sting's best wingman for ages and he has great technique and feeling appreciated by so many people in the business..
Umm. Sorry True North. Dom Miller is a very fine player. Your inability to discern that shows that you are missing a lot. I'm very sorry. I don't think you can be helped. It would take way too long and life is too short.
@TrueNorth2112 In a way, you've answered your own question. After acknowledging Sting "hires some of the world's best musicians", and he does, do you not see Miller's ability to chamelionize himself 20 fold with a barage of different sounds and styles? Most great jazz guitarists list him as one of the finest ever to grace the pop genre, having said that, I do agree with you about the shirt.
Hard to play that bassline and sing and not lose the beat.
The funny thing about most songs in odd meters is, that most people never notice.(Solsbury Hill, The Mission Impossible Theme or simply Take Five, not to mention the Tool/Zappa/Pink Floyd/Radiohead/etc. department)
@drumkill90 This is probably an unfair comparison; do you think Vinnie is better than Stewart Copeland? When I see Sting, I automatically think Copeland, no matter who the drummer is that's playing with Sting.
@willie33040 Vinnie is a monster! Maybe in another life and time; Vinnie could have been Sting's drummer? I think Stewart Copeland brought the drumming style, that the Police has been known for. Vinnie is awesome! I never knew this guy existed! Whoever uploaded this video; THANKS! ( ^ _ ^ ) Vinnie is now one of my favorite drummers!
This played in my Art class. The teacher is obsessed with Sting's music! So am I! I am soooo buying all of his songs on iTunes!
