Buffalo Bob I loved you & Howdy. You're gone but You and Howdy will live forever in us who remember you. You were the reason we got a tv in 1952 because our cousins next door would not let us watch Howdy with them. This was a big item for us in rural NC but somehow we got a tv & I love to look at clips of tv that I saw in the early 1950s.
Shari Lewis told how she learned that in television there is no tradition. She replaced Howdy Doody on Saturday morning.Cartoons like Underdog replaced her later on-and cartoons like The Herculoids replaced cartoons like Underdog-and cartoons like Scooby Doo replaced cartoons like The Herculoids.(As you can tell,I'm a child of the sixties.)
What??? Maybe that was an ignorant comment so I'm going to excuse you HerbBeamish and not respond the way I should. I'll be cool for now. Maybe you should too.
When I was watching this show, I was able to sit and lay down in positions in front of our family TV that would cause severe pain today! Actually wouldn't be possible lol
According to "Street Gang by Micheal Davis" it was observed by behind the scene ppl that Buffalo Bob really didn't pay attention to his live child audience and only turned on "the magic" when the cameras were on. Sad really if this is true.
This was a product of the time and it is unfair to place modern modes of conduct on someone who lived 50+ years ago. Thomas Jefferson, the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence owned slaves. Does that make him a hypocrite or a product of his times? Hindsite is easy.

Jefferson didn't have to own slaves just because it was the in thing to do and Buffalo Bob could of broke the mold and have some black children on his show regardless of the circumstances. Black children needed to learn as well you know?
Buffalo Bob, you were one awesome dude and you are sorely missed. I only wish I had the chance to see you live, whether as a member of the Peanut Gallery or later on...if only ONE time. :-(
