I think gabrielle was living in a dream world where she thought her and xena were inseperable,but remember xena was a warrior princess and she had so many things on the go, that gabrielle was only a small part of her life.Reality bites.

Not to mention- In the world of Xena and the timeline it follows (though admittedly very loose) Eve was born and an adult when Octavian (ious?- forgot which they used though the actual emperor was Octavian I believe... been so long) was Emperor. The Golden Age it was called. Anyway- it couldn't have been a fantasy world in Gabrielle's head. It would have been the biggest inconsistancy of all.

I think that the messenger from Lao Ma could not have arrived at a worse time...just after the events in Brittana and the argument they had just had about Hope. It would have been interesting to see what have happened, if the message had been given before the encounter with Dahak and his cult.

i know...but they timed it like this as a build up to the rift between xena & gabby. every single lie led to the events in 'the bitter suite'. but for me,that still doesn't justify how xena treated gabby.

i totally agree with u. that 'yes' was really harsh! after all that gabrielle did for xena, the last thing she deserved to hear was that lao ma may have meant more than her frienship with xena! but i feel that xena felt more in debt towards lao ma than anything else. the most special person in her life was still gabrielle as she should be. btw,i'm glad u feel the same way. i just love gabby and xena together. :)

I think Xena felt indeed a deep debt and graditude for lao ma, she was afterall the first who treated Xena like a human being, by being kind and loving dispite her evil warrior way's. Afteral lao ma saves her from lao tsu who wanted to hunt a crippel xena tru the forest for sports.
