  • I still remember when Kevin Mitchell made a bare handed catch!

  • This gives me goosebumps. In the days before ESPN, this was how we got our highlights and I always loved this music. HOW ABOUT THAT!

  • who was the guy at the end of TWIB (not this video version, a different ending) pumping his fist as he ran around the bases in slo-mo? was it Yaz? Fisk?

  • @jamesguitarshields I remember a version that had Steve Garvey doing that while he was with the Padres. Not sure if it's the one you're thinking of, though.

  • Can someone post the video that went along with this song on TWIB?

  • ESPN or someone should bring this back. 1:35-end is perfect.

  • one of the greatest instrumentals of all time (sports or otherwise) I'm used to the TWIB TV version but this is the unedited version and that's just fine. Thanks for uploading this crisp clear copy.

  • I remember as a young kid, on Saturday mornings, I would watch TWIB then recreate all the highlights in the backyard at my grandparents' house. This song reminds me of what it was like to be a carefree kid, and brings back such awesome memories of time spent with my late grandfather. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Kewlness...mel allen lives! It brings back memories.

This ranks right up there with the best NFL Films music, as well as the best pre-game college and pro f()()tbaLL theme songs......†...†...Sa121711...127pm

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • Goosebumps..awesome!! I lived for twib on Sat. mornings. The braves have been my team since i was about 11 and Dale Murphy is my all time fav!! Thx for posting, made my day!

  • This was used in the intro to the famous 1978 Dallas Cowboys yearly highlight film, "America's Team"

  • I can't believe I just now thought of making this my ringtone

  • Two things attracted me to baseball as a kid in the 70's - this song and a vague memory of dramatic FILM footage, slow motion of players AND the baseball teams logos. I never cared for stats, players, who wins, who loses, who's playing, anything. That was it... although I did enjoy playing the sport much more than watching it.

Great that I found the song - the violin main part is just fantastic and takes me to a different time in society before the thuggery in sports... wonderful song.

  • Loved TWIB especially in '82 when Milwaukee surprised the American League (especially the Angels) by taking the AL pennant.

  • @jackpark7927 1982 "Harvey's Wallbangers" good times indeed. Big fan of Paul Molitor...Minnesota prospect...glad to see he got himself a ring with the '92 Blue Jays...One Helluva Guy!

  • used to watch TWIB every Saturday as a kid in the 70s and 80s.

  • See ya next week y'all on This Week In Baseball!!!! RIP Mel Allen

  • I understand the British held the copyright to this...they just might to this day. Saturdays in the '80s were made better by Mel, the great highlights and this memorable theme.

  • I used to watch this show and hear its theme song with my dad when I was a kid rooting for the Dodgers!!

  • So I'm not the only guy who had this song playing in his head while they were warming up in little league? Can't hold back tears, chills, and goosebumps listening to this again! Love it. . . Thanks for posting!

  • Isn't it amazing how listening to a song, even just a few notes, can transport you back in time? My little brother and I would watch TWIB every Sunday afternoon on WWOR (channel 9 in N.Y.) during the baseball season. Always on just before the 1:00 p.m. N.Y. Met game back in the late 1970's-early 1980's. I just got goosebumps listening to it...so I forwarded it on to him. Great memories of childhood. Where does the time go? Thanks so much for posting it!!

  • Thanx for posting. You have made me very very very happy, tears in my eyes

  • Thanks for posting. This was the closing theme song for This Week In Baseball. Brings me back to when I was a kid watching this show with my Dad. What Great Memories. I'm trying to find the opening theme song to this week in baseball.

  • What an inspirational song; takes me back to the 70's and 80's of the Big Red Machine. Excellent post. Many thanks!

  • Brings back the innocence of the game from my youth

  • @GaryVonGary

Gary: YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!! Dale Murphy was my childhood baseball hero...can't say that for today's players. "Rocket" Roger Clemens is a joke...so is Barry Bonds.

DM was, is and will be my HERO!

THANK! YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • @riceboy1701e OOOOOOPS! Sory...I meat @grEzyRyd3r. But a HUGE THANK YOU anyway!

Soooooooo VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HAPPY!

    HAPPY DANCE!!!!!! :-) :-) :-)

  • thanks for posting this, brings back good memories of when i was a child watching twib with my father.

  • How about that.

  • That's All For This Week Folks, See You Next Week on This Week in Baseball.

  • I love the end of the real broadcast that has Puckett and Gaetti doing a celebratory low then high five. Goosebumps

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! It makes me feel 30 years younger! Thank you!

I loved the baseball highlight show too.

  • A great song from my youth...always loved TWIB....but this theme song was better than the show itself.

  • @Mashayach its good for baseball??? how?

  • Brought back childhood memories. The emotion is so strong, brought a couple of tears as well. Thanks for posting. Man, as soon as I finish writing this I´ll click play again, and again...

  • Great theme song.... brings back great memories...cannot believe there aren't more of these on utube. Thx for posting

  • Jesus, this takes me back. Thank you so much for posting!

  • This brings back so many childhood memories. I used to love watching TWIB then they would have the game of the week on. I was always so torn because if I had a game that day I would miss it (TWIB) . I was happy when we had late afternoon games so I could enjoy it before I played my games. I also wanted to say that Mel Allen made tis show!! RIP Mel

  • This song ended the TWIB show and used to show Clemente running the bases. Told the boys it brought tears to my eyes when TWIB ended.

  • Hearing this brings back such wonderful memories...

  • This and MNF's "Heavy Action" are iconic in American Sports History.

  • Stero sound..YESSSSSSSS

  • Man, does this bring back memories. When I was at bat in Little League and I play this song in head and try to hit titanic HR's

  • May baseball live on forever and ever....no other sport comes close....

  • Oh my goodness......thank u soo much for posting...literally brought tears to my eyes......I remember hearing mel allen...and watching doc gooden pitching to this tune...and darryl strawberry ending the song with a mighty swing of the bat.....

  • This from when kids used to play outside. I can still see the slo-mo video that accompanied this track in the 1970's - Willie Stargell rounding third base, Freddy Lynn diving for a catch. It would be great to see that again.

  • This brings back memories when baseball was the stuff of dreams. I pray that one day it is delivered out of the cesspool it is in now. Other than fishing, baseball was the only thing my father and I could talk about. Hearing this music brings a little of that magic back to me.

  • Thanks so much for posting this great video. Hearing it also brings back a lot of memories of watching TWIB right before the Game Of The Week. Plus as a devoted Braves fan, i`m so glad that you included pics of the real Home Run King, Hank Aaron and the alway classy Dale Murphy, who deserves to be the in the Hall of Fame.

  • @RodPower78 "Real Home Run King. Hank Aaron" AMEN.

  • Does anyone have the opening TWIB theme "jet set"? It was awesome too. This one is the closing theme. Too bad you tube does not have at least one of the old 1970-1980 TWIB shows with Mel Allen or Warren Fusselle narrarating.

  • you guys are cool , baseball is eternal , i cant imagine a world without it

  • HOW ABOUT THAT? God, what a great show this was!

  • Haven't heard this in years. I still have a few episodes on vhs. I thought this was only a minute long, nice to hear the full version. Where did you get it?

  • @GaryVonGary

There should be an iTunes & Amazon mp3 link below the video screen.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I can't believe all the comments this has gotten over the past two years. It's been a real pleasure to hear from everybody.

  • @grEzyRyd3r Thank you! Beautiful song! Good memories...

  • @GaryVonGary

any chance of uploading the ending? It was so cool and brings back great memories. I was a hockey fan but loved to watch TWIB.

  • I think i could watch baseball pic vids for ours. If anyone likes baseball history, you should check out my channel to see a new trailer.

  • Why does this theme music never fail to give me the shivers? I mean the good kind; this was on Saturdays @ noon or 12:30 on NBC, after my precious cartoons.

  • @Mashayach "How About That", NICE!

  • I hear this theme and I think of the last play shown during the end-of-credits: Freddie Lynn's arm going of the fence at the old Met Stadium in Minneapolis, taking a HR away from Disco Danny Ford.

    Sweet memories.

  • @OriginalRocketJock oh my god i think the same thing,,get chills listening to this!

  • Wow, reminds me of when I was a kid and still had dreams. That seems like another life and me ago

  • Every week, Saturday mornings.

  • Memories. Growing up I always looked forward to watching The Weekend in Baseball. Good times

  • Yeah its hard not to get teary eyed. I grew up watching this and the memories it brings back are priceless. I hope before god takes me away my Dodgers win the world series, I have been waiting since 1988. I remember my mom and I took the bus to downtown L.A. and we saw the parade together that I will never forget.

  • Baseball is here...Opening Day 2011 and playing TWIB on YouTube!

  • Comment removed

  • i'm 48 yrs old and got misty eyed when I saw this video...man to be 13 yrs old and watch this show, especially showing Carlton Fisk hit that homerun and wave this arms saying "get out get out" every little kids dream to be a baseball player

  • this is beautiful classic music

  • THANK YOU MY CHILDHOOD ROLL DOWN MY EYES OF TEARS...

  • OUTstanding. Thank YOU!

  • from New York, ABC News .. Here's Harry Reasoner (circa 1975-76)

  • From New York.. ABC News.. Here's Harry Reasoner

  • I remember watching This week in Baseball on the weekend before I was off to Central Park to play baseball when I was growing up. Watching the plays that were being made (like Craig Nettles catching the ball at third base, or George Brett Hitting) made me want to go out and play harder. It was fun!!!!!! We all use to run around the field mimicing the trumpet sound as we were making plays, etc...

  • this is great

  • When I was a kid, I used to throw the baseball to myself and make dazzling catches pretending they were highights (like the actual program did) during the closing credits. Dumb, I know, but great, timeless memories nevertheless. This freaking song still gives me goosebumps. Thanks for posting.

  • @2nd2nun1 Me too! Thought 'i was the only cornball out there.

  • @2nd2nun1 I would do the slow motion leaping catch onto my couch!

  • Why all of a sudden do I want to go play some wiffleball in the backyard?

  • chills up my spine!! how this makes me think of how great the game of baseball was...brett,schimdt,stargell,carew,reggie!! all the stars from the late 1970's and early 1980's..thank you!

  • Thank you for uploading this!! I'm 12 and in 1984 again...

  • Its amazing how many people hear this song and react similarly. People of different backgrounds, leading different lives but we all recall the same thing: watching this show with our brothers or fathers...

  • This is great music!!!!!

  • I see Appalachian Spring and Canon in D strongly influenced this compostion.

  • This song reminds me of when it was a game...where did the years go...

  • Same here, brings back golden memories. For myself, brother and father, this was our church, baseball was our lives back then and continues to be to this day.

  • What is it about this song that brings grown men to tears? You can add me to the list as well.

  • SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS !!!

  • Great clip to a great song. Well done!

I am not into rap , but I highly recommend you check out this other version. The words to the video will choke you up if you were an Expos Fan!

  • I came across this by accident. Hearing the TWIB theme music for the first time in decades recalled lost childhood memories and new tears. The memories are of my older brother and me watching the show as kids. My first instinct hearing it just now was to call him and send him the link. Then the tears came because I can't. He lost his life in a car accident in 2003. Listening to this music just reminded me of how much I miss him. May God Bless him in Eternity. Thanks for posting it.

  • @february19seven4

Very sorry for your loss. You never get over losing family members but it gets a little easier as the years go by. Take care and thanks for posting.

  • @february19seven4 See this music as a sort or tribute to all those good times with him. Honor and cherish these priceless souvenirs! Let this remember you of what you've had in your life with him and because of him!

  • It's been said, but I'm gonna say it too. This song takes me back. I did get a little misty eyed too. Thanks for uploading this.

  • My local NBC station used this as their news intro in the late 70's. Good times.

  • at 1:20 I see kirby pucket running..... :)

  • Today is october 13 2010.

The TEXAS RANGERS are going to the ACLS against the new york yankees...grrr

I listened to this music when I was a boy and the Rangers(Except for 1977) were terrible.

Now I'm listening and looking forward to the Series... GO RANGERS!

    I'm 14 again!

    Thanx!

  • I love this song.. I tear up also hearing it.. I love baseball .. and the song just fits great. Kudos !!

  • @Grklaw33 Ditto. Got into baseball in '78. My Expos were starting to become competitive and challenged that great Pirate team for NL Pennant in 79. A huge part of that, was tuning into This Week in Baseball with Mel Allen. Loved opening and closing theme. They were perfect for baseball. Hearing both songs brings a tear to my eye. Miss those days.

  • Dude, you've no idea on how long and hard I've tired since the 70's to find the music from TWIB. I never missed an episode during those years as nothing else was even close and I love baseball. Kudos.

  • Thanks for posting!

This song brings back memories. I watched "This week in Baseball" every Saturday. I seem to remember them showing highlights and the music was just great!

    Thanks again!

  • Saturday mornings, me and my boys always watched TWIBB. We loved the video to this wonderful piece. Every week was like hearing it for the first time. The best part of my life was when my boys were home. Now they are gone and I am getting old, I miss them like they left yesterday. My oldest son sent this to me. I cried.

  • thank you. baseball is and always will be americas pastime.

  • When I was 13 years old in 1984 in Toronto, I would watch "This Week in Baseball" and when the music played, it gave me a terrific sense of the epicness and coolness of Major League Baseball. I can tell you as a Canadian, that having a team in America's pastime was a big deal, likened to making it to the big time. "This Week in Baseball" for me meant that baseball meant something great. This theme song just accentuated that feeling.

  • the only reason to watch tv on a saturday afternoon on fox...This Week In Baseball

  • Even though I'm a Pirate fan, Dale Murphy is my all time favorite player. Mainly because he's from my hometown of Portland OR, and he's a Mormon just like me

  • grEzyRyd3r, I used to love listening to Mel Allen's voice as he narrated TWIB. I looooooooooove this music. thanks so much for the post! I am a little emotional right now.

  • Anyone know what happened to the actual intro (as if your watching T.V.)? It was on here for awile.

  • I love this song. They play this at PNC Park (Pittsburgh) after every game when they announce winning pitcher, losing pitcher, time of game, etc. It brings back lots of memories back to when I was a kid listening to Mel Allen. I don't care what the score is, I'll always stick around to hear Gathering Crowds after the game. Thanks for posting this.

  • Great job, that was awesome!

  • Great job, that was awesome!

  • This music captures the pure poetry of the athletes and the sport of baseball. Well done!

  • Giving me CHILLS!

    *chokes back nostalgic tear*

    Thanx!

  • Awesome upload!!!

  • Bring back the Expos!

  • I'd LOVE to hear the original theme song of This Week in Baseball with Mel Allen. Anyone know where I can find it?

  • How About That!

  • Growing up as a kid in the 80's, this week in baseball and mel allen were my weekly dealio. Loved this music at the end. I only wish we could actually find the end video they used too that went with this - I remember them showing the Carlton Fisk "stay in, stay in" gesture when he hit that homerun at fenway. Awesome.

  • It brings back a lot of memories also for me as a youth also

Just love it. wish I could gt on a RING TONE.

Thanks for posting it I bought the song on itunes about a month ago and love it.

    It's a very emotional song.

    thank you again.

  • One my best Songs :)

I want to get it on my Ring tone for my phone

    anybody know??

  • Seeing everyones comments on here is amazing. I know some of you may laugh, but I called my brother as soon as I found this and couldn't help but immediately started crying. Not only because of the song, but because of the memories it brought back to when we were young. We are in our late 30s early 40s and our father's memories came with this. Thank you so much.

  • @ltcars Glad to hear you enjoyed the music. Thanks for the nice comment. : )

  • @ltcars That's awesome! This song brings back nothing but good memories of me and my dad watching games in the summer!

  • For me, this would be:

    1. Slow mo of a Will Clark homerun

    2. Steve Garvey running the bases with his fist in the air

    3. Don Sutton pumping his fist

    4. Orel Hershiser getting mobbed on the mound

  • @joeslaps1 You must be from the west coast...

  • LOVE IT!! Chokes me up A LITTLE BIT. Whenever the game's on FOX every Saturday during the baseball season I usually tune in. Legendary.

  • This brings back the memories watching TWIB as a kid!! So awesome!! Loved when they used to play this song at the end with credits rolling and always started off with Ozzie Smith doing his sweet back flip!! Thanks for posting!!

  • Wow, what a great post!!Reminds me of my Dad and I watching TWIB on a Saturday afternoon. We loved the theme music as much as the show.Watching him move his hands like a conductor as this strings played... Thank You.Makes a grown man cry!!

  • I can still see Willie Wilson flyin around Center Field like a mad man and George Brett getting hits at almost will.... ahhhhh my goodness

  • To me this is baseball's theme song. I definitely miss Mel Allen and 1980's baseball.

  • Reminds me of 1985. The first Toronto Blue Jays American League Pennant.

  • Wow... I've just hopped into a time machine set to 1983. Thank you for posting this!

  • I hear this and I still see Dave Parker's throw to Gary Carter from the right field corner at the Kingdome in the '79 All Star Game to nail Brian Downing at the plate.

  • Thank you so much - brings me back to the 70's growing up. I can see in my mind Pete Rose doing a head first slide as the credits roll!

  • Man that really takes me back to my child hood in the 80's. I learned how to play baseball when i was 11 years old on an old broken down tennis court, and we would play with any ball that resembled the size of a baseball. Would then catch TWIB and loved that song then, and love it now. Truly gives me the chills. Great Great post.

  • Absolutely love this song. Always have.

  • loved this show ... I was a kid, but I always remember Vin Scully closing comments and this song coming on ... loved it!

p.s. I'm picturing an image of Pete Rose diving into base ... was that part of the closing montage?

  • they should seriously put this show "This Week in Baseball" on MLB Network.

  • I can see Doc Gooden winding up now...

  • Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. I have been searching far and wide for the closing video montage with the song from the show too. Can't find it. Rose doing the belly flop into third in slow motion with this song sticks with me. Thanks so much!!

  • I Looooved This Week In Baseball back in the day. Mel Allen was the best!!

  • grEzyRyd3r,

Thanks for such a great post!!! The music always gives me goosebumps. If you wanna hear another great piece of music, download the Russian National Anthem. It will also give you the chills, very powerful.

  • Ahh! I'm in heaven! I had been trying to get the name of this song for YEARS! Googled it, found it, and I was ROCKED to finally hear it agin after all these years. Chills, yes; misty eyes, yes; forever grateful, YES! Thank you for posting this; I swear I am the only women who watched TWIB religiously!

  • @bobean61 You are very welcome. Thanks for the nice comment. : )

  • @bobean61 I used to watch it too....had the biggest crush on Bucky Dent!!!!!!

  • @bobean61

Your comments echo everyone's. Read the other comments.

I'm Here because bert blyleven made the hall of fame today and he was one of my heros for the Rangers in 1977... and threw a no hitter, too! I came here to reminesce!

  • I love it..... Thanks for posting.... The glory days of baseball while I was growing up..... Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Man I miss Mel Allen... no other better voice for the show than him. How 'bout that...

  • reminds me of my childhood watching twib on saturdays.

  • I'd like someone to try and find any other tv show that had two incredible different theme songs as this show did. It's hard for me to decide which theme I like better.

  • i agree with seahockey i get chills from this. and dale murphy was my favorite player. thanks

  • I still don't believe that Dale Murphy isn't in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

People would say he had an advantage when he played at "The Launching Pad".

He was one of the best right fielders to this day, as well as Hank Aaron.

  • 1:26 captures Hank Aaron at a moment of perfection!!! As well as the heart of the game and the essence of the song! Summer is here! Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! Reminds me of sitting on the porch swing with my dad watching baseball in the summer. I guess we're all getting older...and better!

  • There are two theme songs that send chills up my spine whenever I hear them; the old opening to "Hockey Night in Canada" and the closing theme to "This Week in Baseball". A pair of timeless classics. Thanks for posting this!

ps; my all-time favorite player is Dale Murphy. Collected all his cards growing up and still have the collection. So the opening of this was that much cooler for me :)

  • And he is a super classy guy. Just an unbelivable person!

  • Always good to hear from fans of the Murph! : )

Thanks, everybody, for all the great comments and ratings. It's been a real pleasure to hear from all of you.

  • @Seahockey Yup as a Canadian Hockey Night in Canada gives me goosebumps too. But for me the best song is MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL's theme song.

  • @Seahockey i have HNIC's theme song as my baseball walkup song....and TWIB as my pitching song

  • agreed with all comments. I lived for thisshow growing up in the 80's and the watching the game of the week with Vin Scully and Joe Gargiaola....Thank you whoever posted this

  • You're very welcome. Glad to know other people remember this music, too.

  • 4/4/10 Yankess vs Redsox Opening night at Fenway Park GO YANKEES!

  • Baseball was so special then. It was the last time that it really was. Now you have maybe four teams that have a chance year in and year out, the players are jacked up on juice, and loyalty is non-existent.

  • I agree. And so much crap to get more revenue like interleague play, wildcards and extended championship games.

I really don't like the game anymore especially after the 1994 strike.

  • Thank you very much for posting that.

It brings back memories when I was young and cared about baseball. So sad I don`t anymore.

Maybe when I am an old man I will be able to take up watching baseball again.

  • Everytime this song played it remind me of Baseball Season. GO YANKESS!

  • One of the
