You're probably thinking of the smaller 4 cylinder Farinas where they had a 1622cc motor and came in Austin (A60) Morris (Oxford) Riley (4/72) Wolseley (16/60) & MG (Magnette IV) versions. These larger versions you see here came in Austin (A110) Wolseley (6/110) or Vanden Plas.
@cirrus216 thats correct thank you for the information. I recently got some old car mags from a neighbour and have fallen in love with this extended family of cars, especially the big 6 pot VP and police car 6/110 propa motoring.
Nice car! Almost sounds like an old Chrysler when it starts up. I agree with kanedominates. Those cars are beautiful! And those are exactly the sedans ( saloons ) I'd be looking at if I were over there looking to buy a classic.
I don't care what ANYONE says! I don't care how 'advanced" the new sedans are technologically. Or how "aerodynamic" they are, or even how fuel efficient they are. They have NOTHING, to compare to cruisin down the road in a BIG, BEAUTIFUL SEDAN, like your Vanden Plas! And if I was a bloke back in the Old Country with you lads, I'd be shoppin my freakin ass off, for one of them, or a 56-62 Zephyr/Zodiac, Cresta Pa, pr a Humber Snipe Mark II or Imperial.
@Kanedominates dear old colonials! This is where mother's apronstrings are! Maybe there are realities BEYOND the parish??? How many did you buy? And how many Benzes??
My dad used to have the Vanden plas with the Rolls engine good how i loved that car as a boy, everything about it was craftmanship, it broke my heart when he sold it.
Brings back memories...the smell of the red leather & how smooth ..even at the"TON"..(.which my father was fond of doing...) on r trips to Newcastle ,Ireland, on summer days at the beach .
Nice mk2 but reversing light did not come on when going back!!. I had a mk1 back in the 70s it was my first car auto (£40) there was not many mk2s made. I took a liking to the big farina's, the Princes first then the Westminster then the 6/110 that was my favorite. Great comfort happy days.
Interesting point regarding the wheels: I checked and they did leave the factory with black wheels (on the black / green bodywork models) but the rim had a narrow chrome finish supposedly to compliment the chrome hub caps, but you could still see black wheels.
The needle on the 6/110 i have sits nicely (although it goes from full to empty a little to quickly!) but the speedo jumps from 30 to 40 and back again on every trip!
This is nice. Your collection seems to be going up in the world as I remember coming across one of your earlier videos with a rickety old Oxford with crunchy column gear change. It reminded me of a benign BMC version of Christine from the movie! Am I right in thinking the only difference between this VP and the 4 litre R is the engine? And is the six pot the same one as in the Austin Healey 3000?
The 4 Litre R had a slightly different rear end & lights - but the main difference was the engine which was a Rolls Royce truck engine used on military vehicles. The C series seen here is the same as the Healey but I think the cams were different and I guess carbs etc were different too.
Definitely a step up from the A reg Oxford! but I still have a G reg Oxford at the mo as well.
is there a mg version of this?

Big lump of rugged sounding pig iron under the boot.
Wining gearbox.
Elegant body.
Interior with wood, leather and carpets.
Must be a British classic car.

Fuel consumption? "Il faut souffrir pour etre belle" - it's a question of style.
Thumbs up if you miss those handy steering wheel horn rings in today's cars!

Very handsome car. Not too sure about the black wheels though?

@rooftopjump i like the black wheels..i think they are 'correct' too..

@wA7racer Yes, they are correct, but I think the narrow chrome rim embellishers are missing. It's a lovely old "boardroom on wheels".

Im glad im not the only one with a "jumping" fuel gauge needle! Mine does that on my 6/110 and did it on the 15/60.Great looking car, well done!
southcoasty01 2 years ago
Yeah those fuel gauges are a pain - same happened on my Rover P5 too. Must be a 60's Brit car thing!

@cirrus216 different head & manifolds on the healey amongst other things (the Healey has a head designed by Harry Westlake).
You could put an alloy Healey head on a 6/110 though- a great weigh saving..

Love the sound of that big 6 pot motor. They don't make them like that anymore.
Is this engine better than the 3 litre one in your Rover P5 video?
Great video btw.
