A lightsaber would be possible by projecting a magnetic field a certain distance and then firing a plasma burst, which would be contained by the field.
Our ion engines are primitive compared to Star Wars ion engines. Where our ion engines just use an electrical current to generate the ion stream, Star Wars ion engines actually use a fusion reaction, achieving tremendously more powerful thrust.
You Tube is a powerful tool when people like DarthHues takes the time to upload these shows... it's like having Cable TV at your fingertips... so thank you DarthHues and all others that upload videos so the rest of us can enjoy... Cheers!
if you was inside the ship itself you would hear stuff.. if your in the millinium falcon and a tie fighter shoots the back of the ship the medal of the back of the ship will vibrate and then vibrate the air inside the ship.. so you could hear it..
A problem with the oxygen debate is that they can't say just how much oxygen + other flammable material is being outputted in space (they said "limited oxygen".)
There's 2 problems with the no sound in space ordeal: 1. Space = vacuum of nothing. When you stick a space ship in that vacuum of nothing, it's no longer a vacuum of nothing: there's a space ship in it. And 2. Scientists discovered that there are actual particles floating about in space.
@zcxvasdfqwer1234 Yes. There are nanoscopic levels of matter floating around in the space between planets, spreading slowly from planetary atmospheres to the furtherest reaches of space to achieve a concentration balance. However, the levels of gas are so insignificant that it still loosely fits the definition of vaccum.
Star wars is better than any other non-animated movie out there! And the only reason that I said Non-Animated is because like every other american, I like Disney.

Lightsabers are possible because they're not really lasers. They're a loop of energy contained in an EM field.

That's like saying that space isn't a vacuum b/c there are stars and planets in it. What's outside the space ship is still a vacuum.

yes but not as perfect a vacuum as we once thought. Space is also full of dust and gas.
