This was 1 year ago, it was a sound problem check the "Version History" Page on Minecraftwiki, make sure you look at the Alpha Version History, It was fixed on Sep 23. 2010, so for people still replying, it's fixed now.

Minecraft loses sound because once you First Force update it, your sounds arent downloaded. That's why sometimes your "resources" folder is almost empty, due to the fact that nothing is downloading.

to get sound to work what you do is...

1. back up your save file then delete .minecraft ( I assume you know what im talking about)

2. Play minecraft classic and let the music play so it loads correctly.

3. goto the download section ( I also assume your not a hacker so you can download the the launcher) (first click on the SECOND link for the browser)

here is how I fixed - downgraded to 1.3_01 beta, then the sounds loaded correctly, then upgraded back to 1.4_01

@Edgaraks It should work. But you have probably torrented the game instead of buying it. So some torrents might be corrupted. If you have the legal version then try to log in on the website and try to play there. Also make sure you have your game updated to the lastest version which is BETA 1.5 atm.

@AsianManGV3 Have you got the the lastest version of your drivers? Do you have some kind of downloadlimit, if so way untill your "new internet" arrives, it should be there each month. You might want to clean up your mac a bit, and Mac's aren't made for gaming, they are made for designing, etc.. And no they don't sell minceaft in stores, you can only get it on the website itself. (online payment eg.: paypal)

@psiops56 If you haven't noticed, I posted that 11 months ago, the game was still in infdev / alpha at that time, so this was the solution. It worked for most of the people. If you have this problem now then you might have a bugged/illegal copy of the game.

I had the game at that time and although it worked the first time, every time after that it has failed. Right now I have no fix and usually just play heavy metal to remedy the lack of sound.
