It seems as though bands who don't evolve (with the exception of AC/DC) get left behind. Megadeth, particularly Dave, were going for a more alternative take on this album. The album is a great one, and it's severely underrated!
@cullen137 goes to show that record companies can make stupid mistakes. The production on this album really suited the more `Rock` style of tunes within. The remixed version of this album is crap as they tried to make it sound more `Metal` and that was really stupid thing to do
Risk ain't bad, it's different. If you ignored it's Megadeth, then it's a fucking genius album. I personally love it (I love all of Megadeth Albums, so yeah, I liked the change)
Risk is very hit and miss. It would have been alot better had Dave not been listening to everyone, and trying to get a huge hit. Just look at Wonderlust. One of the best choruses I have ever heard, but the verses are terrible. Mixed bag.
i have loved this band since the beginning, and i honestly never really gave this album a chance because it was so different than all the others. now that i'm a little older, i'm starting to give it a good hard listen and i like it a lot. very different direction, but still very cool. thanks marty for your your time in megadeth.
@Fatimah321Arslan wow try 1999 lol im not that old. this album dosent get enough credit either.a diparture but it was fun and had some good licks on it.
When I first heard this album it was hard to get into at first only because I grew up listening to Megadeth and I had certain expectations. Honestly I've come to really enjoy it. This is a very solid album.
@cullen137 Soooo your point is , I thought This song was posted to be heard not have a stupid comparison between songs ...But its Cool dude its your choice and like you I Just wanted to write it out
@mechaghostman2 You can say the same for Metallica. Listen to Youthanasia album and The World Needs a Hero, and The System Has Failed blows the shitty Loads and St Anger out of the water.
@mechaghostman2 ehhhm? ok the albums arent so heavy like the old and new ones but there are still 10000.. times heavier then this pop shit in the radio
@mechaghostman2 Wow....if Symphony of Destruction and Skin O My Teethe isn't heavy enough for metal, then I don't know what is. Disintegrators was aonther shredding song that would defintielty fill osmeone with the urge to thrash. Looks like someone needs to do some more research on Megadeth's albums and the metal genre before posting another comment like this.
it seems like a whopping 98 % of megadeth listeners are ignorant. and this goes for a lot of other metal artists, people always have to compare and take biast positions.
maybe alot of em are just kids? im 19 year old kid myself and iv gotten to a wide range of music. ever hear of Cocorosie...? anyway iv come to accept Risk, and i think that load and reload are actually excellent pieces of work. the outlaw torn? so fucking good.
@feztizieo haha dude i love coco rosie, lemonade is such an awesome song man, im actually surprised to ever have seen that name show up on a metal artist's comments
@beastforum1 its upsidedown the cheese is the eye portion its subliminal dude but yes that is vic also the one eye of the cat is subliminal ive read up on it man even Dave Mustaine has talked of it.
I don't know why people give a shit about Metallica producing albums like load and st. anger or Megadeth with Risk. They're good albums but just not what us metalheads expected. A lot of you should really lower your expectations I swear...
@mechaghostman2 Sorry pal but your argument is too much irrelevant. Metallica lost it in the 90's and so on. Megadeth was always heavier and faster, your comparison has no logic. The heavy and good stuff you talk about was only present in their first 4 albums, the rest failed horribly. Megadeth started nailing Metallica's ass in the 90's after their downfall. :) Rust In Peace, CTE, Youthanasia destroys any Metallica album of the 90's--00's.
@iancrz22 agreed.but metallica came back after death magnetic.and the next one will probably be just as good.aint what they used to be but they still rock out.as for megadeth,im glad they get along and play shows together now cause id love to see both bands in one show live.
No, they are faster, but not heavier. Metallica has a slow but heavy sound. Megadeth is like a motorcycle, can go VERY fast but has no tork and is very weak. Metallica is like a school bus, slow, but heavy, bulky, with a lot of tork and mass to it. If the 2 go head to head the school bus will blow the motorcycle away in a head on collision. Metallica will blow Megadeth away in a battle. Megadeth will be faster, but /v\ETALLIC/-\ will blow away, as they are slow yet heavy as fuck.
@mechaghostman2 when i think about megadeth and metallica i think about dodge stealth and mitsubishi 3000 gt...both cars are similiar cause they were built in partnership...and dodge stealth came from mitsubishi, and so megadeth came from metallica! both of them are 3.0 v6 sport coupe cars and very powerful, they have 280 hp and for a 90's car that was a lot back in the day!
I am beyond a "fan boy" sir. Metallica has an actual place in me, it's a part of me. When I fall, Metallica picks me back up. MD can't do that for me. I can never like MD as the shit Dave Cuntstain has said about Metallica. If Michael Jackson said sorry for raping those kids, he would still be a pedophile that deserves to die. Just because Mustaine and the Metallica guys kissed and made up don't mean shit. So in the end for me, /v\ETALLIC/-\.
@mechaghostman2 you may be the dumbest person alive. Metallica has been selling out for over 20 years. they haven't made a good record since justice. Megadeth has had ONE fluke and it was risk, yet it is still drastically underrated and probably better than load, reload, and that st. anger bullshit. besides, metallica had been ripping mustaine off all the way up until the black album.
They may have changed when Bob Rock came into the picture in 91, it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. "Oh my God, it's different, so it's all of a sudden bad." Metallica never has 2 albums that sound the same. And when Dave was in 'Tallica, the riffs he came up with belonged to 'Tallica, not MD. So no, not ripping off, except in The 4 Horsemen maybe, as that song was written before Dave was in 'Tallica. Lyrics were better and vocals too though. Load, ReLoad, St. Anger, all great.
i will say it's not the best album but it's not as bad as people say. i think it's okay, but some people just are going a little over the top about this.
Pop stands for popular as in mainstream sounding... not necessarily Top 40 or whatever. Shit, Guns N' Roses and Van Halen are Pop... as technically defined, they are Pop Metal. I'll give you a link proving this.
Metallica and Megadeth's first few albums were Thrash, then their newer albums were Pop, now their newest albums are Thrashy again.
Pop in this case means Mainstream sounding... not Top 40 like Paris Hilton.
"Pop" can refer to popular music or the genre, 'pop'... such as Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, etc.
While this album was not necessarily "popular" in the chart-topping sense, some of the tracks on the record could be arguably classified as 'pop', such as Ecstasy and I'll Be There.
I like this song. I always felt like a female pop artist should sing it... Dave Mustaine himself said he wasn't the right singer for this song. But then, I do love pop music.
@mechaghostman2 the link to what? i can admit that megadeth isn't as heavy as their first 5 albums but they didn't turn into pop if anything that was metallica
The link showing Guns N' Roses and Van Halen are Pop Metal, and showing true genres of a bunch of bands. Oh, and BOTH Metallica & Megadeth turned into a mainstream (pop) sound... then with Death Magnetic and Endgame they both turned back into a Thrashy sound.
Yeah really. And do you find it weird that Dave's band is one that talks more about politics than anything, yet he doesn't know the difference between Communism and Socialism really?
@mechaghostman2 st anger stinks piss and yeah risk is a pretty wierd album but tou've got to think that it's not megadeth you're listening to same thing with blaze albums with maiden they dont sound like maiden right? and cryptic writings and countdown to extinction is so not pop! skin on my teeth, she-wolf, ashes in my mouth wtf? these songs are not pop!!
Pop stands for popular. So while those albums aren't Top 40 or whatever, they are pop sounding... as they went to a more mainstream sound. St. Anger is great... have "The Unnamed Feeling" playing as I'm writing this right now. Mustaine can't sing for shit... which is why he should stay with the raw pure Thrash sound that his first few albums had. M'eh... whatever. James can't scream like he used to, but he is a hell of a singer now, though he sucks on some of his older songs.
Dave was right this album is full of great songs but since its under the megadeth name people expect another peace sells or rust in peace. Like the man said if he released these songs under a diffrent band name this song woulda been number one and a huge hit. But since metal heads are bigger purists then freaking mormons they expect the band to stay the same always. If canibal corpse released an album with corpsegringer singing clean and standard tuned guitars metal heads would riot
No I'm not... Mustaine sold out just the same and produced a few albums that had a more mainstream sound to them just like Metallica. People need to realize this... just listen to this song... and those other albums... and compare it to Megadeth's first and second album. Bah... they have changed.
@bugboyandy There was some pop in Megadeth.. Marty Friedman wanted to dab into because that's what he likes and Mustaine said they would try it because he respected Marty as a player and would try it for him.. but Mustaine eventually didn't like where Megadeth was headed.. so Marty left.
Music, in its physical essence, is nothing but a pattern of sounds and silence organized in time. As such, it holds no power except for that which you assign to it. The idea of one genre being better than another is based on your assignment of arbitrary values to abstract relations between pitch and timing. To push your opinion on musical taste is inherently ridiculous: music is reasonless, but its beauty lies in that ability to transcend rationality. That is all.
Quite an eloquent summary but totally wrong in your assumptions. Music has the power to change brain chemistry involuntarily regardless of what your for-conscience designates it. Music works both for operant conditioning as well as classical conditioning. Reason being is certain constructions of sounds fires neurons in specific areas of our brains. Our brains respond to some types of music better than others. Whether you reject it on a superficial level it still changes you inside
Wow. Always took everyone's word and never thought to look this up.. Then I realized I wasn't a true Megadeth fan unless I at least listened to it.. And I have to say..
Even their pop stuff if insane. Just proves these guys are amazing.
I love this song. I think it would be a rock classic rock song had it been relased by anyone else. It's great rock yet people hate this album just because it was made by Megadeth and it isn't pure musical napalm. That's bullocks man. And that's coming from a deth fan.
@austin2460 I dont know, after listening to both albums, I personally think St Anger is better. Sure I really dont like the song "purify" on it, but theres many I dont like on this album
@austin2460 Well no they were not so great as Metallica other great albums but still they were ok. But Risk was not so bad either but IMO I think Load is better but St. Anger really is Metallicas worst album ever. Megadeth and Metallica rule!
I don't know why so many people hate risk. you people just hate it because it's a megadeth album. I like risk because it has catchy music. There is such thing as a band changing their music to what they think is right. Just like what Metallica did with load and reload, and I like those albums to.
@spawnshark1 I thought exactly the same. I think it's a kind of subliminal message or something xD, anyway it's good to read that, I was not the only one haha
i like how people are comparing st. anger and risk. no one cares

MetalChild96 7 months ago
@MetalChild96
M'eh... whatever. James can't scream like he used to, but he is a hell of a singer now, though he sucks on some of his older songs.
mechaghostman2 7 months ago
Dave was right this album is full of great songs but since its under the megadeth name people expect another peace sells or rust in peace. Like the man said if he released these songs under a diffrent band name this song woulda been number one and a huge hit. But since metal heads are bigger purists then freaking mormons they expect the band to stay the same always. If canibal corpse released an album with corpsegringer singing clean and standard tuned guitars metal heads would riot
jcortinas13 7 months ago
@mechaghostman2 Countdown To Extinction? Pop? Are you fucking stupid?
bugboyandy 7 months ago 53
@bugboyandy
No I'm not... Mustaine sold out just the same and produced a few albums that had a more mainstream sound to them just like Metallica. People need to realize this... just listen to this song... and those other albums... and compare it to Megadeth's first and second album. Bah... they have changed.
mechaghostman2 7 months ago
@bugboyandy he's retarded, a lack of oxygen at birth
slipknotliptica1234 6 months ago
@bugboyandy There was some pop in Megadeth.. Marty Friedman wanted to dab into because that's what he likes and Mustaine said they would try it because he respected Marty as a player and would try it for him.. but Mustaine eventually didn't like where Megadeth was headed.. so Marty left.
freaknbigpanda 5 months ago
@freaknbigpanda Right. And then Marty went to Japan. lol. Too bad, cause he was a great member of the band.

TL;DR Stop arguing what's best.
Imtharon 8 months ago
@Imtharon

Metalhead1365 8 months ago
Wow. Always took everyone's word and never thought to look this up.. Then I realized I wasn't a true Megadeth fan unless I at least listened to it.. And I have to say..
Even their pop stuff if insane. Just proves these guys are amazing.
BreakingGraceProd456 8 months ago
its was pretty cool album!!!
kamurandeliormnli 8 months ago
This would be a great album if it didn't have the name Megadeth on the cover. This would be a much better album if it was an MD.45 album.
J0hannski 8 months ago
@J0hannski Not particularly, as MD.45 was a punk band Dave was trying to do. If this was just an independant solo thing it would have been better.
Arcanecide 8 months ago
fuck no w i know why friedman left, anyway this doesnt suck, but is shit compared to toher songs of megadeth...

Man there's some harsh comments. Where's the love, do we really need all this hatred out here?
pdp010 8 months ago
I love this song too. Thanks man. We need a Vid with it. Something to do now. :)
pdp010 8 months ago
I love this song. I think it would be a rock classic rock song had it been relased by anyone else. It's great rock yet people hate this album just because it was made by Megadeth and it isn't pure musical napalm. That's bullocks man. And that's coming from a deth fan.

This album is Megadeth's worst album, but it doesn't mean that it sucks. Megadeth has a lot of better albums, but this one is awesome too
xBchify 9 months ago 6
Better than St. Anger by far.
austin2460 9 months ago 78
@austin2460 I dont know, after listening to both albums, I personally think St Anger is better. Sure I really dont like the song "purify" on it, but theres many I dont like on this album

@austin2460 But not better than Load and Reload!
luc00leh 6 months ago
@luc00leh Load and reload were the two shittiest albums i have ever listened to by a metal band.
austin2460 6 months ago
@austin2460 Well no they were not so great as Metallica other great albums but still they were ok. But Risk was not so bad either but IMO I think Load is better but St. Anger really is Metallicas worst album ever. Megadeth and Metallica rule!
luc00leh 6 months ago
@austin2460 not bettr thn load lol
XxMETALLICAFAN9xX 6 months ago
@austin2460 Lol if u need to compare this to St. Anger it just reveals your own doubts about this album...
zwareshag 5 months ago
@zwareshag Im just saying that megadeths worst is far better than metallicas worst.
austin2460 5 months ago
@austin2460 yea but it doesnt matter cos their worst still sucks no matter how you put it.
zwareshag 5 months ago
@austin2460 Cause this album is more comparable to Load than St. Anger.
Slayerfan7790 4 months ago
@Slayerfan7790 No Risk is way better than load and reload. I would go as far to say that it's better than death magnetic.

ramisalsa1 10 months ago
I don't know why so many people hate risk. you people just hate it because it's a megadeth album. I like risk because it has catchy music. There is such thing as a band changing their music to what they think is right. Just like what Metallica did with load and reload, and I like those albums to.
