@FruitBatties It's really annoying when you are trying to sing a song properly and you have girls annoying you like that ( yes, it is REALLY!). It must be even worse when the cameras are on you. Paul Jones looked quite uncomfortable, didn't he!
Gerroff! Can't you see I'm busy Miming!. And why does the guy on keyboards (MM?) have to move like an orang-utan whilst playing, just to show that he's digging the beat?. The drummer looks so annoyed that PJ is getting all the girls. It's a wonder the producer didn't re-film it with a crowd barrier in front.
@aprilshower446 Saw him at Ronnie Scott's last Sunday and was amazed how strong the voice still is, harmonica playing brilliant as ever, and as you say - still slim and fit at nearly 70! Amazing man! And still cute too....!
Contrary to belief, banrneybuffjaws, not all men like being mauled. I am with athena, some men don't like being fondled. Would you like it if someone came to your place of work, and petted, stroked and fondled you? Besides, it's an invasion of one's personal space. But it's a great song, one of their best, and a real tear jerker too.
Those girls grabbing and stroking Paul Jones whilst he was performing must have been very annoying when he was trying to concentrate on giving a professional performance - I mean trying to mime whilst being groped is not an easy thing to do LOL! I sing in a 60s band and I don't think any of us would enjoy being fondled and groped during a performance (not that we mime!).
Great song, fab band - great to see this clip on here. Thanks!
what a fantastic song, my wife intoduced me to it , her favourite is pretty flamingo. The video clip has great charm , wonder if the girls in the video are still around and watch the video now a days, they must be in their 50`s. The 60`s was truly a fab decade

Great clip. Do this mind experiment: Chnge the genders and artist, say, Lulu. Have her singing while guys stroke her legs and grab at her. Now, project forwards to this day and age and try to hear the fury as the kill joy feminist bitches scream about sexual harrassment law suits. See what I mean? Man, I hate what the lefty freaks and their miserable politics have done to us.
You're right , I did say Monkey..but if you watch the video again..carefully...there are 2 girls grabbing him...one white..one black...so I should have said Monkeys.
@seventiesclassic First time I've been on since and only then because someone had sent me a personal message so I thought I'd see any replies. No shit stirring involved. It was obvious what you meant.
If Brian Jones had had his way Paul Pond would have been the Rolling Stones vocalist.
Saw Manfred Mann back in 1964. One of the support bands didn't turn up and they did a straight 2 and a half hours. Anyone about back then will remember you normally got 20 minutes to 30 minutes off a headline act.
Still one of the best bands live I've seen. Paul Jones sounds just as good all these years later.
Will present bands be watched on you tube 40 years on with such affection as the 60's ones are?
Paul Pond was the real name of the singer Paul Jones, and the name he was using when Brian Jones first approached him about becoming the singer in a band he was putting together. He turned the idea down as he couldn't see a carrer in music singing blues songs. Later Jones wa ould have been quite happy to see him replace Mick Jagger in the Stones when they were after a recording contract. How things might have been completely different...
i remember reading that the girls who were grabbing him were put up to it by,i think, their manager, to put paul off. he did very well under the circumstances. great record, one of the best bumfeelers of the sixties.
yeah. he is into religion in a big way now. i think it could be his wife that has "persuaded" him. she is a very spiritual woman. we saw him at the maryport blues festival ( it is on radio 2 now 31/08/09. your will be able to listen to it on bbc iplayer, up until 7th september )
My favourite Manfred Mann song! Almost forgotten that there was such a song....but know what?..the words all came back...I was actually singing along with Paul Jones. Thanks!
This was my favorite song with Manfred Mann. This year was The Blues band in Umea in north of Sweden .I was there and a lady talked about Paul Jones song I m a bad bad boy .The lady looked at me and sad Im getting old .I think its was funny so I sad to the lady when you are hundred you are old.I m the shy girl who sat in the chair .GOD bless.
yes !!! the Brits rule when it comes to Great music from The British Invasion!! I know I was there in the 60s'' never forget those Great times !!! long live the 60s'..Lyndloo...
See the black girl having a laugh? This is proof that Britain was truly tolerant and civil back then.Yes, there was some racism but think about it, the black girl wouldn't have even been allowed in the studio had that been the USA.Britain clearly lead (and leads) the way in decency, common sense, tolerence and rock'n'roll. My 2nd all time Manfred Mann favorite song. Thank you for sharing. And yes the dis/advantage of doing a "live" show. Paul Jones did an excellent job of keeping in sync. Love Manfred on keyboard and Mike on drums ....I give up, they were all good. A pleasure to see live at Sydney Stadium.
Paul enjoyed the girls....I think he was afraid they were going to grab him intimately! Manfred looked a bit like the guy from the Muppets! Mike Vickers on guitar was amused at it all!
Cuz, if you've seen the two videos "Do Wah Diddy" and "Blinded by the light", and you compare the keyboardist's "looks", they look similar(well at least I think so); therefore, I believe it is. xD
But I have no... evidence other than that to prove so. ^^ Lulz.
ha ha Thanks for sharing, one of many I never got to see, circa 1966. On the other hand I did see quite a few that I haven't seen since. Actually, there are so many videos from that period I don't see how they could go wrong making them available commercially. It was a great time of general good will (at least in music), and there must have been thousands of them made (well, maybe a thousand anyway)...
Just discovered this song, and I love it!

You referred to putting that monkey, singular, back in its cage. And then chimps, not cheeky monkeys.
Seeing as there is only one coloured girl there and she is the one doing the grabbing of the singer it certainly seems a strange use of words.

Great band, thanks for sharing. The girls trying to grab his fruit bowl must have been a big distraction, he did very well to maintain his poise.

Paul enjoyed the girls....I think he was afraid they were going to grab him intimately! Manfred looked a bit like the guy from the Muppets! Mike Vickers on guitar was amused at it all!

this isn't the same vocalist in manfred mann's earth band (blinded by the light)...is it?
GooglelyTube 3 years ago
Y'know... I believe it is.
Cuz, if you've seen the two videos "Do Wah Diddy" and "Blinded by the light", and you compare the keyboardist's "looks", they look similar(well at least I think so); therefore, I believe it is. xD
But I have no... evidence other than that to prove so. ^^ Lulz.

Hey, Jones enjoyed the girls! Look at the smile on his face. When they don`t want you, it`s time to worry. Anyway, he was just miming!

ha ha Thanks for sharing, one of many I never got to see, circa 1966. On the other hand I did see quite a few that I haven't seen since. Actually, there are so many videos from that period I don't see how they could go wrong making them available commercially. It was a great time of general good will (at least in music), and there must have been thousands of them made (well, maybe a thousand anyway)...
