Danke, verfickt noch mal danke, dass es leute gibt, die die Geschichte der letzten Zeitzeugen des 2.Weltkrieges so gut festhalten für die Nachwelt. Peace to all.
Gott sei Dank mal die andere Seite der Medaille. And not all the time these Hollywood feel good movies....saving private ryan and what have you. All am saying is that the there are thousands of young german soldiers that fought bravely. They deserve nothing else than respect.
Virtually all Western European countries manage to build a country from the amalgamation of several nations with similar characteristics. This happened when these nations have realized that would be stronger together than alone.
For Germany the despotic aspects of the Treaty of Versailles accelerated the process. Undoubtedly
@marterium German soldaten were the best, ...were my friend. Besides a few exceptions though those fine and great soldiers were wasted with the German curse of terrible leadership after Bismark. Sigh, so sad the fate of Stettin, Danzig, Konigsberg, Breslau and all the others.
Not necessarily. Nationalism arised in Germany as a result of the Versailles-treaty. It was incredibly unfair towards Germany, enhanching people's wish for a strong Germany. People wanted someone who could rebell against the winners of WW1, not be their puppet. Therefore, they elected Hitler, who first of all was brilliant speaker, and also appealed enourmosly to the workingclass by making new jobs in the war industry and railroad companies. Most people here would probably woted for him.
actually in former countries colonized by great britain, france etc... most are happy that germany challenged those superpowers, as a result we gained consciousness of freedom
@thismaybeusername Come on!! Nationalism was integral part of German society till half of 19th century. Every nation in middle Europe have to face german extreme nationalism at that time. Its logical, cos there was no historical German nation, but tens of different german countries. They have a need of some glue...
@MrLasicak Of course, nationalism was/is a part of every nation to a certain extent. Take the USA as an example, a nation with a strong patriotic tradition.
And what do you mean by "no historic germany"? Are you thinking that the german people didn't have any sense of belonging because of the many separate areas Germany was finally, if I may, founded by.
But it was not fueled like the nationalism in Germany was by the harsh conditions of the Versailles-treaty, the defeat in WW1 and Hitler.
@MrLasicak Any group, any state, and every country has at least a form of Nationalism ... it's what forms and binds them as a unit. It's a very good thing except when taken to the extreme ... just as most things are. Moderation is the key.
And this from someone who is from a country (Romania) who was in an alliance with Germany twice!!! to gain territory and influence in the east, changed sides when it looked bad for Germany, lost land,an important part of its industry and gained 50+ of Soviet occupation...Uneducated,simple-minde fool of a cowardly, opportunistic little country without honor.
First of all, my country of origin does not matter because i am not a nationalist and my thoughts are not constrained by nationalist ideals. Second, speaking about my education without knowing me and addressing me insulting words tells allot about your education. Third, what I meant to stress in my comment was not the cause of the rise of extremist nationalism in Germany but the fact that extremist nationalism is a harmful element in a culture, as proven by the consequences of this war.
the American spirit is like no other. I dont like my govt. becuz everyone knows all govts are run by secrets govt bankers,so all the `normal` people are in the same boat in this world.
I swear to God, every video on You Tubes comment section turns into an American bashing post. I don't hate you sorry if you hate me based solely on my country, ignorance is bliss
yea your right, its extremist Islamic time now, and weak European countries who think those whackos in the middle east aren't gonna bomb the hell out of their cities.,
@peoplecan1965 Not sure who those 'yanks' are but most people are pretty careful to always include the Brits and more and more people are seeing the fight in the East as the real deciding point in the European theatre. But you right, it's good and refreshing to see these men tell their stories and not just the normal frustrating assumption that all Germans were NSDP members wanting to just kill everything.

when Hitler created what was known by the Germans as the financial miracle.
in the u.s.a. we would vote for such a miracle worker.
Not knowing much about our politicians (only what their speech writers tell them what to say).
They're interests are foremost to those that take part in the election machine.
Huge multi-national corporations.
Not edgecated popular vote.

this war was necessary to remove extremist nationalism from German culture
ColdBloodedTimeKillr 3 years ago
But it didn't? Also, extremist nationalism arised in Germany as a reaction to communism, so you really don't make sense.
