  • Very nice thank you

  • please help me i just wanna learn how to use joomla using my own comp using a dummy html page. so how can i open it?

  • the main setback of joomla is that it is built on lego-blocks, that are table based...??

It's easy to use templates and change it quicker than you change a shirt, but to me using templates is a restriction and not UNIQUE.

Of course it's quite easy to make polls, contactforms and more... but for the design part, you are totally dependent on the template.

  • Since each template can be configured in unlimited ways, how is this a restriction?

-NO- You are not totally dependent, go into your Edit CSS tab in the template under template manager. You'll see all the CSS sheets and from there can make whatever you want.

  • My problem is that I'd like to start from scratch and BUILD stuff up the way I want, like I do now with xhtml+css. WITHOUT tables (except when data are displayed)

My "problem" is that I don't want to change templates made by others and wrestle with their codes to "have it my way". That's far from fun! But who knows...

  • You should make your own Joomla templates then. If they are good enough you can sell them for a pretty penny, over and over again.

You can ALWAYS take the hard road - which some people like to do :D

  • Hard Road... haha, you could be right of course. But as said, no fun in using templates by others. Even being a hobbyist, I prefer making my own layout (which is not that hard at all by using xhtml+css). So that's the frustrating part, not being able to get my ideas streamlined as easy in Joomla.

Thanks for your Joomla tutorials though. GOOD and helpful. I'm going to watch your other tus as well. As a hobbyist I'm always eager to learn a little more.

  • Very good tutorial. Thank you!

  • Thumbs up! Very clearly spoken and intelligibly explained. When are you going to teach a manual installation?

  • Excellent presentation with good practical insights.
