  • I want this video on my TV 628 phone.

  • This vid is popular on Netherlands

  • dovile, rask mane

  • I've always Betty Boop or(Nancy Dee) i even have a Tattoo of her on my arm, but,I never notice she useto be a Doggie w/cute flappy ears!! ;•} LOVE & RESPECT

  • I find so creepy how betty moves and talks in this. It's al distorted. Not that i mind...just sooo. odd O_O

  • Looks like Bill is giving the finger at 1:40.

  • Looks like Bimbo is giving Bill the finger at 1:40.

  • 日本語タイトルは「脱線水兵エロ行脚」ww

  • i dont understand. howd she go from dog to human?

  • @NymphadoraBeeWolf Do you notice how her boyfriend (Bimbo) in this cartoon is a dog? She was started as an unnamed canine girlfriend for Bimbo. Over time they decided that she'd work better as a human and they gradually morphed her design into that.

  • @laughland yea i know, but like did they make an episode where betty loses the dog ears or something or do the dog episodes just stop and she suddenly becomes human?

  • @NymphadoraBeeWolf She started getting more human features in the Fleischer toon 'Mysterious Mose' (1930) And I think either 'Bimbo's Initiation' or 'Silly Scandals' whichever came out first) (1931) was the first BB toon with something close to the recognizable Betty Boop head with no trace of dog features although she still had massive dog ears.

I believe 'Bimbo's Express' (1930) was the first one with the 100% traditional Betty Boop head as we know it,

  • @NymphadoraBeeWolf Cont

She still had dog ears at this point although they were shrinking.

The first Fleischer toon that had her as a 100% human was 'Mask-a-Raid' (1931)

her dog ears had become ear rings by this time.

  • wow Betty was one ugly bitch before she became a human

  • " HA HA! " cute :)

  • a tom and jerry and betty boop cartoon 1931

this is one of my favorites

  • barnacle ftw

  • What are the words they are singing at the very end of the cartoon?

  • Her legs creep me out around 4.00

  • Why'd the clock pull down her dress?

  • betty dog?? ?¿

  • I remember an Episode of Popeye, where Bluto was Banacle Bill the Sailor and He sang this Exact Song. Since this and Popeye belonged to Fleischer, it was ok to re-hash songs.

  • HURRY BEFORE I BUST IN THE DOOR!

  • These were early incarnations of the characters that would later become Betty Boop and Bimbo. Still very cool cartoon.

  • I love Fleischer cartoons for their weirdness, and they are downright funny. I can't stop laughing at some of them. xD

  • the kids a player.

  • I think I'll miss the old cartoons...

  • I start missing the old cartoons...

  • No one knew how to end a cartoon like the Fleischers.

  • I watch this it make me young again and smile from ear to ear such joy so innocent.

  • Most bizzare cartoon I've ever seen. I love Bimbo's Initiation (Favorite cartoon of all time) which is Bizzare as well, but this was crazy!

  • Oh boy, do I know the dirty lines to this song! "Never no more, you dirty old w.....!" It's really salty, you know?

  • What's the sound effect from 4:55 to 4:59? How did they make that sound?

  • 4:22 0.0

  • I love watching these early 30s Fleischer cartoons. I really love the bit where the lightning bolt punches Bimbo's Captain.

  • it just a cartoon folks

  • great animation

  • eww betty u are weird

  • haha good little clock...

  • "I'll drink your rum and eat your pie, i'll kiss your cheek and black your eye" WHAT!! he's going to abuse her and she lets him in....

  • I don't like Bimbo here. I prefer him in Bimbo's Initiation or in Swing You Sinners. :(

  • Betty Boop looks scary as a dog..

  • hot DAMN this would be awesome with pot...

  • Geez, Betty Boop cartoons were so bizzarre in their early days. I will say the same thing about other early Fleischer cartoons. They were far beyond what people expected in Disney cartoons at the time. These cartoons were obviously made for adults and teenagers in mind.

  • @31operafan

Well, it wasn't a Disney cartoon and I'm not sure what people would have expected of Disney in 1930. Those early Mickey cartoons were pretty surreal. I'm sure to a lot of people cartoons all blurred into one crazy medium.

  • Amazing how fully-animated these ancient toons are when you're used to today's offerings...

  • This is not kid friendly on so many levels...the lyrics are just one of the many things wrong here haha

  • @RedWOLF4Life96 these cartoons were not kid friendly to begin with, these cartoons are kinda like history....idk how to explain it look at bucketfurter comment he explains why this isnt intended as a kid friendly cartoon

  • @RedWOLF4Life96 these cartoons were not kid friendly to begin with, these cartoons are kinda like history....idk how to explain it look at bucketfurter comment he explains why this isnt intended as a kid friendly cartoon

  • So what did we learn today, kiddies?

  • Exclusive Uploads talk about Rare stuff, nice...

  • What's up with her legs at 3:53?

  • betty married bimbo when she was a human and bimbo yet a dog..now it's common on "american guy"

  • amazing!

  • so great! my first time seeing dog betty as well, i love her crazy dance moves. everything is always so unpredictable in these old cartoons - doors shrink, walls eat people, stairwells are harp strings. the chairs on tippy toes was a really cute touch.

  • Impressive animation for the year this was made. First time I see Betty's prototype.

  • my first time seeing her as a dog awwwww even though i do like her better as a human

  • Its Betty's Voice X)

  • Flip Bimbo!! He needs to stick with 1 woman not 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000......!!!!! The dang... (place bad word here)!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hehehe Barnacle Bill just hits it and quits it.

  • Pretty racy for its time.

  • where is bimbo!?

  • These old cartoons could give you nightmares.

  • @AcePilot2009 No shit dude!, i don't know if you have heard the story of a man who made a pact with the devil in order to get rich and famous his name was Walt Disney if you find certain books about him you'll read about all the subliminal satanic messages behind most of his work and his little mousy friend Mickey Mouse its pretty scary once you look at it yourself...

  • @MyGodzilla99 Oh I thought Uncle Walt's biggest pact was with J. Edgar Hoover in the 1950s (someone who wasn't all that far from Satan IMO.)

  • @MyGodzilla99 i definately agree with you my friend... even these early cartoons are throroughly saturated with subliminal imaging... in this particular cartoon, if you stop at 4:27, you'll see that old barnacle bill is letting it all hang out for everyone to see....

  • @whywecantunite That's Bimbo's foot not his genitalia :P

  • ummmmmmm......... i ....uhhhhh i like the betty boop better than this betty poop

  • its all the shrooms. and tell me you havent seen it before in alice in wonderland ,tweedledum.

  • she looks so weird with ears....

  • is that supposed to be a mimic of mickey mouse at the beginning?

  • Ah... so she's a prostitute? Interesting. And a puppy. Cute, in a scary way.

Sexist... But you know... it was the 30's.

  • Yes these were the good ol days when women werent treated like shit :)

  • what does, "But you know . . . it was the 30s" mean? how old are you anyway?

  • @wjsprsn It might mean: The Hays Office wasn't censoring everything, cartoons shown in theaters weren't aimed at children, and in general weren't designed to placate people like the square hausfrau who are shown pointing and gossipping around the clotheslines. Interesting that the guy extolling the virtues of whiskey with a girl in every port is the good guy, and the judgmental prudes (and the boss) are the butt of jokes. Not the corporate American Way of the New Millenium, that's fopr sure.

  • barnacle bill sounds... pleasant, doesn't he? XD

  • .....god betty is just...UGH in these ones...

  • there's not betty boop you baster!

  • She isn't Betty yet, but if you read the details it says she is "the character who would soon become Betty Boop". Betty evolved from a dog (she was the girlfriend of Bimbo who was a dog) into a human over the course of several films.

  • @laughtland

    thats 100 percent correct ;)

shes meant to be a helen kane caricature in her earliest apperences

But when she did turn human she still had the helen kane persona.

  • @laughland My word, the prototype Betty character was incredibly awkward, wasn't she?

  • @laughland she so resemble her alot i do see how they trasformed the dog to betty

  • @laughland i can see the resemblence and how they transformed the dog to betty

  • @laughland THAT MAKES NO SENSE HOW DID THIS BECOME?????? explain please cuz in all the other cartoons betty boop is never seen with bimbo

  • @tokidokiluva Actually Betty and Bimbo are together in several more films such as Dizzy Dishes, Mysterious Mose and Bimbo's Initiation (there are others). By the time you get to "Betty Boop 's Bizzy Bee" in 1932 Betty is fully human and Bimbo is the secondary character.

  • @FaniKoira Its her Voice and looks like her

  • @FaniKoira if you know anything about betty you would know that she originated in 1920's as bimbo's girlfriend who was a dog...and it's bastard*

  • GOD she looks so scary in this

  • Dirty Bill! he ain't clean

  • betty boop cartoons are always weird, but this one is very bizzare. Still love it though!!!! Betty forever! xox

  • What's the music, starting at 4:57 ? It's sometimes herd in Popeye cartoon shorts

  • That would be "Sailing Sailing (Over the Bounding Main)".

  • Anyone who has a problem with this has been conditioned to believe that cartoons are for kids only.

This was all about the immigrant experience in New York, and as anyone who's seen Gangs of New York knows, it was often an ugly life. Here you can see all the gritty dirty rough edges as lived by real people - as well as some weird cartoony poses.

Too bad some people can't appreciate a good slice of history...

  • also creepy singing boats

  • Yeah, stuff like this was too much for The Vatican, who, with the Knights of Columbus, successfully lobbied to put teeth into the Hayes Code with their "Legion of Decency" - After that Betty's skirts were down at her ankles and the subject matter was censored heavily. Consequently, by the late 1930's, Betty's popularity plummeted.

  • "I'll spin you yarns and tell you lies

I'll drink your wine and eat your pies

I'll kiss your cheeks and black your eyes"

  • I'm Barnacle Bill, the sai-lor!

  • @sshuck "He is Barnacle Bil the Sailor!" 8D

  • I find this very sad and depressing.

  • very wierd.

  • The mouse resembles Mickey Mouse.

  • 2:26 awesome

  • I can't stop watching the part where he walks up the stairs.

  • she started out as a dog

  • Why is Betty Boop a dog?

  • Well, the main character at the time was Bimbo and he was a dog and she was Bimbo's girl.

During the course several films they gradually morphed her character into a human.

  • I dont like betty in this^^

But the mermaids are very cute

  • is it just me or is betty suddenly less attractive

  • Lol is it because she's still a dog in this? I personally think she looks cute in the earlier cartoons.

And cartoons were pretty suggestive back then... heh.

  • You know what I just noticed?

In popeye the sailorman, they have a similar scene.

I guess that episode was inspired by this :D

  • Didn't Fliescher brother do a fantastic Popeye episode? Sinbad the Sailor, if not much more than that.

  • Hahaha betty boop funny

  • 0:49 ~ Mickey Mouse?

  • Betty Boop was unfortunately canceled in the 50s due to sexual reference... Hence the way she ALREADY acts.

  • wrong it ended in 1939 way off

  • Thanks for sharing this! 5/5 and fave. Seems that back then the accepted style for many cartoons was to have the characters as animals, but doing human like stuff. Perhaps it made the surreality of it all less scary. X-D

  • i dont know if thats betty

  • she used to be a dog but those floppy ears gradually changed to hoop earings. XD

  • This cartoon predates Betty only slightly but everything that would become Betty was present in this character, including the same voice actress. The only real difference was she was drawn as a dog here. How can you look at the body, the way she's dressed, the hair, the big eyes, and then hear that distinctive voice and think it could be anyone other than Betty?

  • I love how they slip so much innuendo in.

  • Wait a sec???? The black book said he was visitng Nancy Lee??? Isn't that Boop???

  • yeah but this was before boop was established, proper boop is yet to come.. :)

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • Bimbo is so cute

  • 4;47 Grim Natwick animation.

Why was he uncredited in this one?

  • Like most cartoon studios, they only listed a couple of the key animators, and they probably rotated the names as they were listed from one cartoon to the next. At least Max Fleischer gave credit to some of his artists. Walt Disney's name is the only one that appears in HIS cartoons...

  • Boop so cute. You know this remind me of once, girls in my english class, when questioned with "what behavior you hate the most" (sorta like lil survey) and almost unanimously voted for slapping in the back to get attention. I was quite confused so I asked my counselor because you know, I never heard of a boy complaint bout tha. The counselor told me besides the overall rudeness, upper back was considered as one female's susceptive area, it's kinda sexual.

  • @Turan123 ????

  • Hideous Boop

  • Like most cartoon characters at that time, Betty was a work in progress. It took Grim Natwick to really get her to where she looked a year or so after this cartoon was made. I think that this was only the second cartoon that Betty appeared in.

  • Amazingly creepy. Wow. Her face was so different

  • This is my 1st time seeing her as of how she was 1st created, thanx for posting!!

  • hahhaha, they were just playing dames.

  • lol that is so funny.

  • One mermaid is Mae West - who is the other one? Anybody?

  • good but i like the popeye version of barnicle bill more

  • my grandfather used to sing this song to me when i was little--sort of a "call and response" deal.

  • That was a great one!

Never seen it before, thanks for posting it.

These old toons are the living end.

  • creapy LOL

  • LOL they fucked

  • I saw Mickey Mouse, but, the woman isn't Betty, though she's very sexy.

  • caraca como esse desenho é velhinho em rsrsrsrs :)

  • and why does he keep pulling up his chest, how do you do that anyway

  • The Fleischers used the Barnacle Bill song in a Popeye cartoon later on.(Beware of Barnacle Bill.)The verses used then were a little tamer than those used here.I largely remember Barnacle Bill from Popeye-but the song is a lot older and I'm sure there were many verses which even in those days couldn't be used.

  • wow! this is really suggestive... love it!

    "eat your pie" classy :D

  • to any modern animators who are reading this: just pack it in! THIS is how cartoons were done properly: your modern junk is TRASH!!!!!

  • Mickey Mouse is on the cartoon too.

  • 5:04 OMGEE THEYZ HAVIN SEX BABY!!

  • why did his bag have an anchor and steering wheel in it

  • ilovethat

    itcool

    ihmynamedariya

  • holy shit the cartoon artists back then did a lot of acid

  • doubtful, it wasn't invented yet

  • I was thinking the same thing.

Although, acid wasn't discovered until 1938, a full eight years before this video was made.

  • This is fun to watch back to back with Popeye's 'Beware of Barnacle Bill' cartoon. The Fleischer's were just amazing!

  • THIS IS A CLASSIC! The original Song Barnacle Bill mostly has unprintable words. It was one of those party songs like Hey Lawdy Lawdy, where drinkers would take turns making up verses on the fly. It could go for hours.

  • They had so much imagination back then..!

  • Ill kiss your cheek and black your eye anyone else hear him sing that as he was going up the stairs good god lol

  • ..and eat your pies, lool!

  • why is she a dog?!

  • It was a common thing during the 20s and early 30s to have human like animals. Such characters still existed after that period but by the late 30s human characters were becoming common place in cartoons.

  • I love it when the Ship says "Yo-Ho", when the fish says "And Free", and when the peeled potatoes say "For Meeeeee"!

  • first she was a dog! ;P

  • and i thought she was hot...sick..lol

  • This is genius!!!

  • look at the changes they made on her! she used to be a dog with floppy ears! lol

  • lol look at them gossiping

  • "I'm all lit up like a Christmas tree",

    "I fight & swear & drink & smoke",

"I never can get drunk enough",

"for Whiskey is the life of man",

And to think cartoons nowadays won't even show someone smoking a cigarette.

    Man, I miss old cartoons.

  • try reading some of the "alternative" lyrics on Wikipedia, they are filthy! How legitimate they are I don't know.

  • Well there are a few Barnacle Bill videos on YouTube that use some of those "alternative" lyrics, I take alot of stuff from Wikipedia with a grain of salt, But I have heard that bit about how the Barnacle Bill The Sailor song was originally called

'Bollocky Bill The Sailor' which makes sense if those original lyrics listed on Wikipedia are the real thing.

  • He was Bollocky Bill and now he's named after a creature, thats penis can extend to 20 times its body size. :D

  • why was betty boop banned?

  • Because she was too sexy for the feminist laws.

  • Those laws weren't feminist.

  • cute

  • i love bimbo and betty together:)

  • That's BETTY BOOP?!!!!

  • Pwopeye Pwopeye

  • i love how her face moves when she speaks in these early ones, it's so weird!

  • This seems like something I'd find on Newgrounds, except without the memes.
