It's really a big fortune to watch this film from you, friend, I appreciate the vids greatly! Personally and for strange reasons maybe related to M's unique life and art, Caravaggio movie owns a magical secret path to open my deepest brain doors and I'm bewitched by it!
@cirusinfabula 60%??? Non creo che sia vero... Sono stato a Venezia, Firenze, Pisa, Roma, Napoli, Tivoli, Palestrina, Verona, Viterbo e Roma. 60%?
@cirusinfabula Assolutamente.
This was the same director that did romeo and juliet is that with leonardo de caprio and the other woman who played juliet or something. Caravaggio is quite a remarkable character in this history of art painting examining his life and works. I would like t go to rome but I don't have the time to do so. The way he built up commissions and influence and then going into rage patches throughout his life as he did kill somebody in a duel fight from a biography I read about this captivating artist.
I lived in Rome in 1992 and saw many in the flesh...the Church interiors are very dark - at the best of times....i use to walk across the small street intersection where he kill a man...it is still there...
They had an exhibition in Rome about his work and how he carved deep direction lines in the canvas with the wrong end of his brush...they were lit from the side - to show the marks he made...deep.
Todays art is all about conception...and no skill...that is why it will never be great...
was mentally unstable as most great artists seem to be.Thre is a movie about him called Love is the devil.I don't know if it is nline but great film in my view. His work is brilliant.
There are few really great movies about painters. One was from 30ties about Rembrand, one french about van Gogh and one about Andrej Rublov. And this one.
It's a dramatization of the life of Caravaggio, an Italian Baroque painter who lived a very turbulent life. He was a "bad boy" who had an original & unique painting style, and he derives his name from the Italian town Caravaggio. He was a naturalist - he painted what he saw without any need to make people "perfectly beautiful" as did artists of the Renaissance - if he saw wrinkles, that's what he painted. He is very dark, his style known as "chiaroscuro" meaning light on dark

Derek Jarman didn't direct Romeo and Juliet, certainly not the DiCaprio one- that was Baz Luhrman. Juliet was Claire Danes.

he was already dead when that movie was filmed...

Watched it on the big screen in Chicago last week. The print wasn't so good, but it was awesome to see Nigel work on the big screen.

Caravaggio didn't paint like that. He used a camera obscura to trace over the reflected image. In other words, he didn't know how to draw.
gaud123 3 years ago
Not room for obscura in the French Church.
Nor on Malta.
Fail at art history, much?
