Waiting my Assessment day ..Im applying for Full time Rifleman...
It would be an honor to be able to hold up the proud tradition that so many Diggers have fought for and implemented into our history.
I respect and thank all servicemen and women that have enlisted and fight for our country to protect it from enemies who wish to bring harm to it at home and abroad ...
My mate Gary Murphy has been cursed by agent orange,he is the best MAN i have ever met in my life,he never complains about it,he just did his duty. One of the best days of my life was when the memorial was finally put on ANZAC parade in canberra ,i got to meet a lot of Vietnam vets, had plenty of drinks with them at clancy's pub.Just awesome men, thanks for that day ,i will always remember it.My love to all Vietnam vets.
thank you to all of the vietnam vets out there. there is no way we can repay you for your sacrifice. thank you from Luke Field AZ 56th SFS formally 56th SPS
what a great clip so touching god bless to all the soldiers who made it home and RIP to the ones that didnt make it home thank you to every soldier you have made your country proud im so sorry u lost your mate that would of been really hard to think he made it home and cancer took his life. rip TJ
I was a AF medic there in 67-68. What I remember beyond the combat was how hard you Aussies partied. Took me 4 days to recover from a week in Australia. Welcome home I am very proud to know some of you.
i love this song but red gum killed it i no they wrote it but john williamson did a WAY BETTER version red gum cant cant sing he sounds pomy!!!!!!! go john williamson!!!
You're a fucking cunt mate. I'd like to see you over there, then again I bet you couldn't pass recruit training cause your a lowlife computer nerd. Next time you open your mouth think about what you're saying.
This video brings tears to my eyes whenever i watch it....
If i could i would go back in time to the vietnam war and join it with our many great Australian Heroes.
i am a patriotic person and would die for my country any day. I am already looking forward to joining the Australian Army although now i have to go to year 12 to join now, i think its just bloody stupid but what can you do?
vietnamese war was political eg us vs communisum but what about the mass murder on the north side isnt that the meaning of rightcesness 2 help the weak against tyranny
oh my left nut.... we should prevent telling our "children" the truth? the history that belongs to all of us. i agree whats happend has happend. but we shouldnt cloak it and call the piss in our pockets lemonade. for the sakes of the many lives lost im sure if the choice was thiers they'd rarther not just be forgotten.
I turned 21 after being in Vietnam 2 weeks. This was in 1968. I waited for 9 months to go to Sydney on R&R.The Aussies are the greatest people that I have met and have the best beer. Those of us who made it home have Agent Orange on our tail. First time I have heard this song, about time after 40 years, brings it all back.
A well written song that I've never heard and great tribute to those who fought for freedom. Hope you don't mind me sharing a video with a song I wrote about this same subject matter. Mark
I dont think these guys will ever forget the way they were treated when they got home, to me this is australias biggest shame and there is no way to make it up to them. To the people behind this mistreatment of these heroes I hope you find it hard to sleep and are ashamed of ur disgusting hurtful actions when they returned home to no parade and no thanks. Thankyou viet-vets for being willing to risk ur life 4 ur country and thanku to those who made the ultimate sacrafice. L.W.F
Thank you. This is for my mate TJ he won the lottery at 19 and I missed out. he survived his tour only to be brought down 30 years later by the 'Spanish Dancer'. Agent Orange is a bitch.
To who ever made the video..Well done. My dad fought in vietnam with the 5th ARA, and I am so proud of him watching your video, it brought tears to my eyes.
Very impressive. Even a war that may not have been that clever obviously was carried out by real heroes who gave all they had and who deserve all respect we have. Very impressive.
Peter thanks for responding to my previous comment I am glad you did. I saw I Was Only 19 and was held captive by the whole video experience. I had never heard the song or seen many of the photos. You have a great talent for putting the vids together I will watch the rest that you have posted. Keep up the great work. Gday from Chicago
We can't blame those who went to war. Their wives and families complain about how they isolate themselves and they should get over the war, but it's something that you can't get over. I've seen war and what it does to people. It is torture. I once met a man who had been to war, he didn't kill, but he always had his gun with him. That's more traumatic that anything else we've ever seen or know. Don't blame them, blame the government. Beautiful song, I heard it today in class, most of us cried.
made me cry many times.. very emotional to see such good friends lose eachother in war.. and a beautiful song also.. A beautiful memorial.. i'm 29.. never been in a war.. but just can feel the comradry and what a loss to lose a good friend.
I just came by this somehow, but I've lived long enough to know,I thought, cause I didn't know that aussies were part of this nightmare, god help me us, and what else can I say except that its still too real and to those young lives sacrified there is nothing but sorrow and thanks. No,of course, it's not enough...
From an American who appreciates it, please accept my blessings and gratitude for standing by my countrymen. You are champions and heroes, and I love you for it.
Great post petervee60. I thought the mix of photos was a great tribute to your mate T.J. A man like all Vietvets gave away their best years of their life. Aust should be eternaly grateful, for such men.
Thanks 'pnewso72'. TJ and I grew up together as kids. He survived his tour 'in country' and returned in one piece. To loose him to the 'Spanish Dancer' at the prime of his life was tragic.
Thanks for your comment 'Critter183'. Yes, our men and now our men and women have fought together against a common foe over a long period of time. Most call it the action of allies, I'd rather call it the support of a 'Mate'. Because I have no doubt that if we Aussies got ourselves in the 'Shit' sort of speak then I know that our mates in the USA would not let us down.
australians always fight other peoples wars , and we do it with courage and conviction. God rest those poor souls that died doing there duty. may we remember them.
I gather you're not aware that the Indochina War of 1945-1954 started with Britain, France AND THE REARMED JAPANESE ARMY going to war with the Viet Minh for a year to reimpose French rule...? If you don't know that, then find out, I'm not holding your hand and spoon-feeding your ignorant mouth.
Thanks narara2. This song and initiatives like 'YouTube' will help in ensuring that we all remember. I don't think it will be long before someone creates a song as popular as this one to remember and support our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
