rossi IS italy national, hes an italian-american who sticks to his italian roots and speaks both languages he could play for u.s nat. but he doesnt (good decision)
Ok. 1. Most Americans (or anyone else) whose parents grew up overseas speak a language other than English in the home. After the next generation they tend not to because people usually end up marrying someone who doesn't speak the other language. 2. His GRANDparents moved to the US 45 effin' years ago. His father registered for the draft during the Vietnam War! 3. Instead of playing for his country he decided to play for a country where his nearest relatives are his long deceased great-grandpar
He was born is America but he can speak fluent Italian and Spanish, plus he moved back to Parma when he was 12. So he's more italian than some american-italians
For all of you who are banging on about your Italian pride, I suggest that you pack your Italian belongings, LEAVE your American Passport, and go back to your homeland.
@chromepro1 where did you hear that? So people from Rome, Milan, Florence etc..(I'd like to know what do you mean with etc) are "real" italians and sicilians are not italians? Sicilian is a different language? Yes like every other dialect in Italy.
I ask about this because I'm sicilian but I live in Rome and all you say sounds a little bit "strange".
How can you blame him. Italy won the world cup a few years ago. United States is just starting to be relevant, besides now they were only competitive in the very beginning.
Lionel Messi is of pure Northern Italian blood - plays for Argentina. Zanetti, Cambiasso, etc. All pure Italians. Kaka has his Italian papers and plays for... Brazil. Maradona could have player for Italy. South America is where the VAST majority of Italians landed. Few have played for Italy.
@ForzaAquila Dempsey? Well, probably not because he doesn't flop on the floor like a bitch! Dempsey plays too physical to ever play on the Italian team!!!!
@ForzaAquila LOL what a geek ass bitch! STFU wit all that!!! Our best athletes play other sports! Americans are just coming around to Soccer in the US. England, Brazil, Argentina all have their best athletes playing Soccer. Spain is just anotherbeast! They have athletes playing Basketball, Soccer, Tennis. Italy also has pretty good athletes. ANYWAY Rossi is a disloyal faggot and i hope he breaks his fuckin neck on the pitch!!!!!!!!!! USA USA USA
@franchiz707 uh dude i'm not biased but you are. and i'll prove it to you. what do i think? i think that players with italian BLOOD and heritage should play for italy. does that mean rossi is rightfully italian? YES. does that mean balotelli can play with italy imo? NO. what about amauri? NO. rossi has italian parents, italian culture and was only born in the US. i was born in cuba does that make me cuban? NO. you can say what u want but he's not a traitor that's for sure.
@dcontrerasm that's my point. birthplace doesn't matter. what matters is the blood. according to franchiz it's the birthplace. balotelli born in italy, rossi born in the us. i'm trying to prove to him that my point is not biased so i say rossi should play for italy because he has italian blood, imo balotelli should play for ghana because that's the blood that runs through him.
@ForzaAquila I understand your point but disagree that it should be based on blood line. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Balotelli should play for Ghana because his birth parents are from there? But lets be honest, if one player upholds the value of the country he lives in and was raised in he should be allow to play for that country. If I had to choose between Puerto Rico, USA and Dominican Republic, I'd choose USA because I belong to this culture, and I was born here.
@starstriker97 No don't be ludicrous. If you are born and raised in the States then your nationality is American and you are eligible to play for the states, just as Giuseppe Rossi was eligible but because his immediate family are Italians (Mum and Dad) he chose to play for Italy as he had a stronger connection with them.
And whats all this native american stuff. If your descendants came from I.E Irealnd 200 years ago, doesn't make you Irish or irish american in anyway as it is irrelevant.
@starstriker97 I am half italian my self. 2nd generation english and I am half Maltese and have lived here most of my life. So technically if I was a professional athlete I would have the oppurtunities to choose to play for any of the 3 countries depending on which one I have the biggest connection too. Like why Pick England cause it my nationality, well it would be silly picking them when I would rather play for Malta(eligible due to my grandfather)then I would have dual nationalities.
If you are italian, it doesnt matter where you are born, you are italian through and through. It doesnt change who you are or your background. Also, a player wants to play for the national team he feels close to. Giuseppe Rossi is a first generation american boy here, so its understandable to feel more connected to italian culture and life and the people, than american, like i do. someone like Michael Bradly, who is prolly like 10th generation american, probably feels closer. So give him a break
@Comoesa italians are fagets "if your not italian get the fuck out of my face" they think if they run their little italian cliq they run the world so lets hope this guy considers himself american im from toronto so italians in my area are all cool but italians from woodbridge i can refer to my earlier comment
@chromepro1 i dont think its about that..i think its a purely sporting de3scion...plain and simlpe he has a greater chance at achieving international success with italy, as he can compete in the the euros, and has a much more realistic shot at winning a world cup (although italy dont look like theyll be winning anything anytime soon with their current crop)..but what you say is not true..i know plentty of italians whose parents and grandparents are from italy (i live in queens nyc, lots of yous.
@chromepro1 ...lots of your over here) who root for america over italy, as this is the country they live in, and love. All of my italian friends who root for america over italy use this as en example...cuz when they go to italy they see how different they are culturaly and social compared to native italians
@chromepro1 ..italy has a great history and culutre no deniing that, but its unfair to say that jsut cuz your parents or grandparents are italian, thats where your loyalties shud lay...its funyn too cuz most of the italians that emigrate are from the south (sicily, naples) and these parts of teh country have been neglected and lokoed down upon by the rest of the country..so i find it odd that some of my sicilian friends root for italy over america, when theyve never been to italy dont speak ...

He made the right choice playing for Italy if he can actually get selected to tournaments... Which he can't, not right now anyway.
I'll tell you this, though, I bet he wishes he was in the knockout stage of the World Cup with the Americans right now.
