Problem with Texture packs, with texture packs it see's though everything where there isnt an air space, so its good for finding stuff like caves n shit. now with the patch that came out with the opening chest, made it very easy for it to be found, reguardless of how its hidden. the little space between the chest and the next block can be clasified as air in this situation, making it visable ;3 Speeling if fore skwares

Hide your chests under lava lava doesnt burn the chest so its safe and griefers don't go near lava with x-ray, so your pretty safe!

easier way: go to a lockette bukkit server, step 2 place a sign on your chest, greifers see your chest, but cant break/take items from it!

there are several problems... first:griefers can set x-ray so than it will not show iron ore.

second:it is not easy to get so much iron ore.

third:x-reyers will see that there is too much ore

and one small advice: use coal ore, so it will look more realistic

it's futile. the griefers will grief, tou'll stop them, the griefers find a way to grief again, you stop THAT griefing, then the griefers find ANOTHER way to grief..... it never stops, so i can say with all certainty that eventually a "make everything invisible but chests" mod will be made and griefers will grief again. It's much easier to just put your chest in a pool of lava that's at least 2 blocks deep. It's hidden both from x-ray and easy to reach in a base, you can still right-click to simply open it through the lava as long as you know the spot it is, and chests don't burn. Also most people who use x-ray wouldn't think to make lava invisible since you'd risk running into it while digging otherwise.

Obviously you can't stop all cheaters but it's not a bad method for most cases.

Actually surrounding it with any block will do since Minecraft's rendering method means blocks that are out of sight and just behind a block you can see, won't be rendered on your screen. Try putting a block of cobble inside a 3x3x3 glass cube and take a look. The cobble appears invisible.

The only method which works against it is an xray mod which changes rendering, which would really work with this method too...

If you are playing a server that is run well, you would be able to lock your chests, protect the blocks your house is made out of, etc. My friends never had an issue with one causing grief to another because they simply can't if all the proper methods are put in place that I added to the server for the to use (i.e. WordGuard, BukkitInventoryTools, Essentials, etc).

@Busujimiya You can obtain many new types of block now with the Silk Touch Enchant on a tool. Silk Touch basically gives you a chance to receive the block as is an not the dropped item it usually yields.
