Roland Orzabal is the most underated singer/songwriter ever, and I have admired his work for over 30 years !! Thanks for everything Roland and your music has been a huge part of my life !!!!!!
@1966Depeche I couldn't agree more, underated singer/songwriter, fabulous vocals, this band has been a huge part of my life for over 30 years too. LOVE THEM. Saw them together again YEA in concert. What a night.
The more I listen to the later stuff (this, RATKOS, Elemental) the more I like it. Still like SFTBC the best, and The Working Hour remains my favorite of ALL of them, but this album is just LOADED with great music.
i remember first hearing TFF in the 80's...and i knew then that they had staying power...and Rolands voice was so powerful and unique! love this band..seen them for the first time on 8-12-10 in Detroit...and Roland still has some sexy moves...oh, and his voice is still out of this world! love them forever!
@QueenCrazy I just turned 40 (Leo, like Roland) and he makes me feel 16! Age is what you make of it. Personally, TFF and Roland Orzabal in particular, hit the right spots with my ears, my heart, my brain (and my eyes, he is absolutely gorgeous). Good to hear the TFF is reaching the newer generation. It is truly timeless stuff. Enjoy!
The guys are "breathing" Pink Floyd and Beattles in this phase, I don't recognize TFF signature, the band could rename it as "Sargent Roland and Curt Pepper", what you think about that, uh?
I have been a fan of this band since I was 14, I'm 31 now. I drove my family crazy, I listen to TFF EVERYDAY until I was 21. I saw them in 2004 together. Man, I mean if I could follow them world, I would:0P Luv u forever TFF u r my BOYS
Sooo good to read POSITIVE remarks here about TFF. I've loved them since the first album. "Elemental" is one of my all time favorite albums (or CDs rather). They rocked the Pacific Ampitheater on Friday night... just wish I hadn't missed HALF of the show, due to difficulty getting into that place, and the show starting right at 8pm. Roland is the man o' my dreams...still.
Lolas.. so true..I was 15 min late and missed who knows what? anyway, what a great show! it's a shame the Pacific Amphitheater has a 9:30 curfew...GW from NB
It's not that I don't consider a CD an album... it's just that I grew up with albums, and now we have CDs, but I haven't been able to stop referring to them as albums, even though they're CDs! (does that make sense?) :) (So when I tell someone, "I want to go buy that new album by Coldplay," what I really mean is the CD.
Critics that judge by looks obviously took a mirror with them through the hole they crawled in, these fellow musicians are to be listened too, if you are intellectualy gifted you should be able to transalate their sound and message into comfort and reality, for those that can't, oh well, we cannot fix "stupids", great work TFF.
Turning nearly 50 and being married are 2 good reasons to be depressed! Seriously, these 2 "boys" are pretty great looking for their age and Roland at least is brillantly talented.
What's going on? Unhmm...I didn't exactly understand what you meant...But these two boys are: Roland Orzabal is the one with long hair. Curt is the one with short hair. Both of them are turning 48 this year. Both are married. Both have children...Their lyrics tell a history which started in 1982. Their first album, for instance, is about their childhood problems, how they suffered, how they felt...They're very accomplished, and personally, my all - time fave band. =)
Still, it is worth giving it a listen. Most songs have jazz overtones. If you're into jazz, there you go. But my recommendation is to drop any prejudice and listen to it a few times. I personally loved the first time but I have friends that needed time to appreciate the mastery in the work and now they love it. Good luck!
but i have to say something: it seems to me that many artists from the 80's that became famous with synthi sound like tears for fears or nik kershaw nowadays want to go back to more classic music like the beatles (of which this song reminds me alot!) ... i personally don't expect that from these artists, i want synthi sound. ok sure, they want to go on and grow, but i miss the 80's sound and it makes me sad even the still active 80's stars don't do it anymore.
@DOSkywalkR I miss the synth sound too, but TFF left that sound in 85. Seeds of Love in 89 didn't even have it. And TFF 90s music by Roland was all guitar driven, but Elemental had some elements of the old TFF. Depeche Mode kept the sound, but Roland said touring in 85 he was disconnected from the music and wanted to move on to more instruments.
I just get annoyed when people equate their hair and clothes to the of their quality of music.
Face it people Curt and Roland have grown up and moved on as musicians.
I realize that people will always have an insatiable appetite for the old songs but I remember in an interview in Men's Magazine that they always want to focus on the new music and forget about the old music.
did you see "Tribute to Ti'Loup" from nourset on YouTube? It is set to Killing With Kindness. The story will break your heart, but it is beautiful too. We will keep the memory of Ti'Loup and others in our hearts!
well boys and girls, what's faces or clothes got to do with music?. i like Tchaikovski and he is dead and if you see images of him he looks older too....please don't put visual comment's to music, music its for ears and mind and soul, and T4F are music.
I agree. This song is so good it makes me want to cry. Does everyone realize the extent of their talent? There is alot more than what we heard on the radio back in the day. Check it out! As for looking older, I enjoy looking at Roland at any age. He will always be mighty fine to me!!!
I agree their are many levels of Tears for Fears- The first level are songs that most of veryone knows like: "shout" "everybody wants to rule the world" "head over heals" and they are good songs don't get me wrong. But then when you go deeper into TFF you get stuff like "woman in chains" and so on and so on. Great band who's songs have endured up till now.
I couldn't agree more humandos. I have often thought of putting in a comment on this subject on some of the T4F songs as some of you fans have an awfull lot of comments about how Roland looks. With all my respect - and you do have my respect as we love the same great music of T4F - couldn't we just stick to the musical comments, please??

From The Hurting all the way up to Everybody Loves A Happy Ending and even Elemental and Raoul and the Kings of Spain each album that Tears ever put out had a lot of work that went into it.
yeah, I was shocked too. They disappeared 20 years ago. The height of their popularity was nearly 25 years ago.. I do look a lot older now than when I was 10. I guess we've all changed (for the older/worse)
Now my dad's second wife has run him off because she didn't get Manson and tore him appart. My brother is dying from aids inflicted by shooting up not by being gay. He shot up because of the pain my fathers second wife inflicted on him. Now I can't find him, I cry for hours sometimes just thinking of this situation and the thought that my children and I may never get to see him again and tell him we love him.
I like The Beatles too. I also hear some David Guilmore in there as well. Manson has the right to be how he wants but for me he just took things a little too far. "That's not the shape of my heart" as Sting says. You see, my brother is gay and it seemed like Manson was making fun of him. The fact that I also have children (who love thier uncle very much) made Manson very hard to accept. I'm sorry if I flipped out, but I was still with you. You should have stopped to look for me first.
The Beatles were so big , isn't every one slightly influenced by them !!!. I think TFF are still shit hot anyway. I think Rolands great, but know he's getting older I think it's time for a new hair do!
I agree very Beatle influenced. Kind of reminds me of Fool on the Hill, Eleanor Rigby, and a couple others I can't quite think of the names right now but from the Sgt. Pepper time period.
i think it sounds unbelievably like Mansun!!..Mansun are ace but ive always thought that there are similarities between the two bands songs/music wise - smart song from a smart album
Mansun were inspired by Tears for Fears. In case you get the re-mastered debut album by Tears for Fears called 'The Hurting', check out the liner notes. You will find that Manson and Billy Cogan have admitted that they are big fans. Besides, TFF started nearly 15 before Mansun even formed the group. So, I would never accept that TFF sounds like Mansun rather I would say Mansun sounds like TFF to a certain degree.

Almost Beatles like. Even their last album together, Sowing the Seeds of Love is Beatles influenced(to me). Anyway it's good they are back making album again. Really nice song.
Actually, I think Curt barely aged. I read in an interview some place that he started going gray in his mid 20's. And looks to be in excellent physical shape.
Oh my god.....I've fallen in love......with their voices.....I've fallen in love....with them............Killing with kiiinnndddneesssss yeah yeah!!!!!!
Me too carbonpictures, it just gets like so exciting like...wow I've never described a song as exciting.....I told someone the chorus might make your heart shatter lol. Killing with kindness!!!!!! So great!! TFF rocks they killed me with kindness lol!!!
Roland himself freely admits to the Beatle influence. On Sowing the Seeds, they did the Lennon thing, and on this album, they did the McCartney thing. Bottom line, amazing lyrics and music! Roland is a true artist!
I know lots of gays who have wives and children, so it doesnt mean anything. My cousin Henry was one of Curts "close friends" in the 80s. He looks too effeminate in all his videos. Roland is just the opposite, looks like the man he is. I dont intend to start a discusion on this point anyway, so people, be calm.
No Def. not LOL I think he is just a guy they met or maybe someone linked to them? I have met these guys a couple of times and they are musically awesome!(Dont you think?)And I look forward to meeting them again someday!(with luck behind me of course)(Buy the way I have mey Ian Stanley too, thats how I know for sure!)
TFF did a spectacular show at the Pacific Amphitheatre on Sunday July 29. They are so great live. Twice during the evening Roland said "We Love You". And we, your fans, love you back! Roland and Curt, keep doing it!
Check those early 80s vids. He had hair! Now he just clips it off super short, which is fine for him. At the concert, they were not only in great form musically, doing a lot of ELAHE, but animated. Roland introduced their newest track, "Floating Down The River" by saying you could dance do it. "I do" he said, and proceeded to jump around quite a bit.
Do you have any recent photos of Roland with straight hair? I've only seen the ones where he has wavy hair. I'll bet its hard to know what to do with it because to me that is Rolands trademark.(Lots of hair) He would hate to cut it short, but keeping it longer may make him look older. To me he is gorgeous either way!!!!!!
Roland's hair is naturally curly. He straightened it in the 1990s during the time of the albums "Elemental" and "Raoul and the Kings of Spain". Pictures of him with the straight hair are on those albums. (I mean CDs!)
Roland and Curt have got to be 2 of the greatest song writers of out time.Songs like Shout,Head Over Heels,Everybody Wants To Rule The World,Mad World,Me and My Big Ideas,The Hurting,O could go on and on.I can't even describe what their music means to me.Thank You Roland and Curt.
"Everybody Loves A Happy Wonderful", from which this great track comes, is wonderful, but my personal favorites are the '90s albums, "Elemental" and "Raoul and The Kings of Spain".
cry little politician now uv bin caught came from behind its a dangerous sport....i wonder who he was writing about could be any twat politician in ENGLAND now THE POODLE RESIGNED TODAY..TOP TOP SONG EVEN BETTER CD
This is the return of the good pop music in 2003. GREAT song from an overall great album, shamely ignored by the industry, as well as any late TFF release that does not feature Mad World...
Anyway, I reckon that this kind of stuff doesn't fit into the playlists os nowaday's radios.
Veteran acts have a tough time getting airplay. Even the lead single from Duran Duran's comeback album didn't get much radio exposure. It doesn't matter how good the new music is, these bands have to rely on their established fan bases and word of mouth.
it is one of the songs i like most on the tff album ..it sounds really deep im my soul ..but of course i would say that ... that band it´s prat of my life and back ground ..the arrangement of the duo which put in their songs are really unique !!

Does anybody know if Curt is sick or is that just aging?
vimaury 4 years ago
Does anybody cares?? The voice is still great!!!

i think he's just aging.
wolfemmpress 3 years ago
Actually, I think Curt barely aged. I read in an interview some place that he started going gray in his mid 20's. And looks to be in excellent physical shape.

Me too carbonpictures, it just gets like so exciting like...wow I've never described a song as exciting.....I told someone the chorus might make your heart shatter lol. Killing with kindness!!!!!! So great!! TFF rocks they killed me with kindness lol!!!
HippieGirl34 4 years ago
I absolutely agree !!! But dont you think that this album is simply what the Beatles would sound like if they were still here??
I can't believe that nobody ever said anything about that!!!
sule541 4 years ago
Roland himself freely admits to the Beatle influence. On Sowing the Seeds, they did the Lennon thing, and on this album, they did the McCartney thing. Bottom line, amazing lyrics and music! Roland is a true artist!

that's the sing that draws me into the song. the chorus. lovely

Substitute "Ending" for "Wonderful". "Sorry"

TFF did a spectacular show at the Pacific Amphitheatre on Sunday July 29. They are so great live. Twice during the evening Roland said "We Love You". And we, your fans, love you back! Roland and Curt, keep doing it!

I want to see these guys so bad and let them know how myuch their music has meant to me.I hope they come to Chicago or Indianapolis soon.
reggie46404 4 years ago
By the way, Roland has gone back to the straight hair look he had in the '90s, which really looks best on him.
moorlock2003 4 years ago
Ok Has Curt ever had hair?
reggie46404 4 years ago
Check those early 80s vids. He had hair! Now he just clips it off super short, which is fine for him. At the concert, they were not only in great form musically, doing a lot of ELAHE, but animated. Roland introduced their newest track, "Floating Down The River" by saying you could dance do it. "I do" he said, and proceeded to jump around quite a bit.
moorlock2003 4 years ago
Do you have any recent photos of Roland with straight hair? I've only seen the ones where he has wavy hair. I'll bet its hard to know what to do with it because to me that is Rolands trademark.(Lots of hair) He would hate to cut it short, but keeping it longer may make him look older. To me he is gorgeous either way!!!!!!
kittiebaby4 3 years ago
Roland's hair is naturally curly. He straightened it in the 1990s during the time of the albums "Elemental" and "Raoul and the Kings of Spain". Pictures of him with the straight hair are on those albums. (I mean CDs!)
moorlock2003 3 years ago
I don't remember where I saw the recent photo with the staight hair. I posted that 10 months ago and I forgot. Sorry.

"Everybody Loves A Happy Wonderful", from which this great track comes, is wonderful, but my personal favorites are the '90s albums, "Elemental" and "Raoul and The Kings of Spain".
moorlock2003 4 years ago
Mine too. Those albums are great.I just listened to Raoul and The King Of Spain today.I still have to get Raoul and The Kings Of Spain.

Buy "Raoul" new, and add to its sales figures. Every little bit counts.

This is the return of the good pop music in 2003. GREAT song from an overall great album, shamely ignored by the industry, as well as any late TFF release that does not feature Mad World...
Anyway, I reckon that this kind of stuff doesn't fit into the playlists os nowaday's radios.
innuendopt 4 years ago 4
Veteran acts have a tough time getting airplay. Even the lead single from Duran Duran's comeback album didn't get much radio exposure. It doesn't matter how good the new music is, these bands have to rely on their established fan bases and word of mouth.
