There is something about this that transcends time and emotion ... poetry, vision, dance, life, all wrapped up together in a breathless, selfless act of art.
Well that was interesting; awesome work, the man looking like a younger Andy Warhol added to the mystery for me. He's quite flexible! I'd like to see more of his dance work.
I loved it!! :) I do definitely think you have to understand dance to watch this..It's beautiful, poetic, and I enjoyed every second of watching it! :) But if I showed it to my brother for instance who plays baseball I could see him saying WTF...lol :)
Certianly, this is too abstract for my small, feeble, teenage mind to grasp. The dancing was definitely brilliant but the small tid bits wear the camera would go crazy an repeat a section of someone shaking or something, I was confused... Or am I supposed to feel confused?? Curse you, art!
i almost kicked a hole in my monitor reacting to the sheer genius of this piece..Sylvie as well as as the male dancer are ABSOLUTELY incredible. i have never seen such expression through movement quite like this.MATS EK needs to be given an award so rare and so unique for his genius...i am truly blessed today to have watched this....BRAVO and KUDOS to you all
Dance as a complete language; it's own voice, it's own consonants, it's own parables. Someone once said music can say what words can't, that is why it's almost inhuman. And dance can make you live those things which music says.
This is so moving. It is impossible to not have an emotional response to it. It is very absorbing and mesmerizing...! Powerful performance from both Sylvie and Niklas. Amazing work.
i keep watching this. day after day. it speaks to me so amazingly. a young male dancer myself. this man inspires me greatly. i want to know more about him but find nothing. what else has Niklas Ek performed in
SMOKE is a sensational work that allows anyone to project whatever he feels like. And THAT is true art. Sylvie almost made me cry at the end. What a sublime artist, as well as the Ek brothers of course
Boy, I sure wish I could watch Mats Ek in a creative rehearsal. This work could be done on lesser artists and still be great. The work stands on its own and does not rely on the interpretation of two of the best dancers on the planet to perform it. I will continue to use Mats Ek's works to assist in recuperating myself from the American reality dance TV shows.
I know little about modern dance other than I rarely like it. It seems high risk - playing out in the same space/ time stuff as us. The artistry, courage and trust has to occupy every second, every inch, every night, to work. A single flaw in one can splinter the illusion into pantomime and running around to music. But, when it works, like here, it comes closest of all artforms to revealing the essence of the human soul. Thank you, ValeBjork, for posting this overwhelming work.
Are you serious? The camera working was trite. The is obviously an amateur of a contrived suburb of middle America. I found the entire film boorish and I dare say I shit it in the toilet.
By sheer virtue of your choice of language you have devalued the worth of your criticism...if indeed your original intent had been sincere. You come across as just being sarcastic without reference--trite where? trite as compared to what other work?
Sutilmente conmovedor, la coordinacion entre camara y movimientos esta mu bien lograda, apoyada solo con certeros y pocos cortes en la edicion. magnifico !!
Subtly poignant, coordination between the camera and many successful movements, supported only by a few cuts and precise editing. magnificent!
I'm reminded of Miki Wakamatsu (Japan) when Miki was younger. The fluid grace and underlying humor make them both visceral and spiritual pleasures to watch.
IM IN LOVE!

@AlwaysMusicAlly The question it not "what do i think' but 'how does this make me feel'. It's dance; If there were words, we'd use them.

Actually, pretty characteristic of Ek's work. Of course its ballet. It all doesn't have to look like Swan Lake or Manon.
