    i love this song!

  • A great song by Billy Swan! I remember listening to this when it was brand new back in November 1974! I first heard "I Can Help" on WHBF AM 1270 in Rock Island, IL. Dan Hibbs was a popular local DJ at the time. WHBF-AM was a Top 40 station at the time. In late 1974, they would play songs like "I Can Help" & "Angie Baby" by Helen Reddy quite regularly - to death, in fact! I don't remember them playing "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas, though. It was too uptempo & quirky to suit HBF's taste.

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH KSTT-AM, another local Top 40 staition out of Davenport, IA, would play more quirky, rock-oriented songs in their rotation. They would play "Kung Fu Fighting" regularly. WHBF-AM changed their format to country in 1975, billing themselves as "Country Sunshine WHBF AM 1270". WHBF changed its call letters in 1987 & continued to be a country music station & underwent another change in the 1990s. KSTT later changed its format & call letters & became a sports talk station - KJOC AM.

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH Yep, those were the good old days! I grew up in the Quad-Cities, too. :)

  • la cancion es magistral, muy buena.

  • I just put in nothing got this. Help me Billy Swan? :P

  • Billy Swan looks like a mix with another race. Does anyone know what it is?

  • Yet another classic 70,s hit, reminds me of saturday morning tv, was about 12 years old when this was in the UK charts-great record.

  • My happy drug.

  • I was widowed with three little kids and met a wonderful man who said this was our song........35 years later .....still out song

  • Hammond organ ..the best

  • Get on yo' roller skates!!!

  • Strangest thing happened to me with this old song a few months back. Out of the blue I started playing it on guitar and singing it. Hadn't heard it in YEARS! A few days later I went to see Thor and couldn't believe it when I heard it in the movie.

  • Incredibly good song, and i love it how you think it's finished and then wham it starts again!!! :D <3

  • Man this song brings back the memories. Great song!

  • Now that's how you end a song.

  • You never hear this one anymore. I grew up with my older brother listening to this, love it!

  • I grew up with this song its awesome!!!

  • Paranoid park is a weird but awesome trip.

  • song on our jukebox! LOVE THIS!

  • ever sense this song came out when I'm down in the dump I listen to this.

  • Geez @Tom...is it that time of month already? Don't be so thin-skinned. First of all..."Thor" is a sad attempt at bringing the Marvel character to the big screen....don't know anyone who would disagree with that. Secondly, the quotes are to signify the genre of the movie....sorry if that offends you.

And last but not least, if you take my saying I was glad to have been there when it was first released as "Holier than thou" just don't know what to tell you other than get a life dude.

  • What a shame it takes some lame "Superhero" movie to bring young people to good music like this. Glad I was there from the git-go for it.

  • @kthinsa Let us count the ways in which you're a douche.

1.) You put superhero in quotes.

2.) You have some holier than thou attitude about having heard this song 'first'. Yeah, OK, you've been enjoying Billy Swan for years. Who gives a shit if somebody is exposed to his music through the movie Thor?

So at least two ways in which you're a dick, which is considered probable cause towards even more.

  • @TomPiltoff okay smart alec, this song is unique in the annals of one hit wonders. do you know why?

  • Billy hit #1 in Billboard, 11-23-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I grew up loving this song. Brilliant. I heard it in the movie Thor, tonight, and I about shit myself. I expect there will be a TON of young users (like myself) coming in and commenting about finding this song in Thor. Which is good! This song deserves the recognition!

  • @Ironman374

    Jason... Is that you?

  • @vmaninblackv Yes. :D

  • @Ironman374

I heard it in a movie called Paranoid Park this morning and it got stuck in my head.

  • @Ironman374 me too..when i was a kid i used to wake up get the little record player running 45s and play this to my parents while they were laying in bed..like a dj..brings back good memories and i loved this song.!

  • @208stroker1 Yep. It's remained a favorite of mine my entire life. I grew up during a time where Cassette tapes were going out of style and CDs were the up and coming thing, but I've actually been more familiar with vinyls and record players. I've borrowed countless vinyls from my Dad as a kid and played so many albums. It's always been my favorite way to listen to music.

  • @Ironman374 real nice pal even listening to it now i see myself back then, just a great song..

  • @Ironman374 Same exact story here!

  • @Ironman374 So it does, In that area they at least knew how to make good music.

  • @Ironman374

I know! that was awesome to hear this in thor!

  • Everybody skate!

  • @50Emerald LOL!Remember when every roller rink had an organ player?Once you hear "Smoke On The Water" played on the organ, youll never be the same.

  • This was used in the movie Thor.

  • ??? Billy Swan??? all my LIFE I thought this was Ringo Starr!

  • Great song! Loved this since I was a kid!

Lyrics correcting though... the line is not:

    'I got two for me'

    it is:

    'Take a tip from me'

Thank you for posting this song!!!

  • I like everything about this song, especially the unique sound of the organ. When it first came out (1974), I was listening to a station that mixed oldies with current songs, and I thought it was an oldie until I started hearing it every day. The guitar intro would make a great cell phone ring tone. Thanks for including the encores at the end, I only heard them a couple of times 30 years ago.

  • Great tune!!

  • I Remember This Song When I Was A Kid Going Fishing Loved It Then And I Still Love It. Great Song Thanks For Posting

  • Reminds of going to a Market in Deptford in the 70's, long hot summer :)

  • Great record!

  • I love the improvised encore at the end---you usually don't hear that on the radio.

  • I remember I was making some crafts when this song was popular . . . and it always was one that was 'catchy' and that I had to sing along with! Great song ;-) ~Diana Lynn~

  • Forever thissong is my reminder of the Belgian Secret Police.

As soon they overheard I was helping a woman-friend who's husband hanged himself andshe was totally out-of-everything , they did not know anything worse than sending a helicopter and the forces around her house.

    HELL!

    Kill it hard !

But not too hard ,they might like it...as you might know.

    TRIAL THEM HARD AND FINAL!

  • Frickin' love this song.

  • In soviet Russia, Help I's You!!!!!

  • I prefer 80's than 70's but I like very much this song

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!

  • Love walking down memory lane.....

  • I remember when this song came out! I was eight years old in 1974. I was in the third grade. I would hang out regularly @ the local skating rink. I must admit I was a terrible skater! They don't make music like this anymore!

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH We must be doubles in parrallel universes - what a trip! same age and same experiences and I still like this song all of these years later.

  • EUROKOK MARTIN

  • It would sure do me good to do you good, let me help

  • love love love it

  • When I ws in College in the middle 80's they played this song on the jukebox in the Student Center all day!!

  • The other day, I told my husband that I wanted to hear those three little words I haven't heard in a long time. He said, "Honey, you know I love you." I said, "No, no, not that. The three words I'm longing to hear are "Need some help?"

  • Paranoid Park

    <3

  • hermosa cancion.

  • I remember when this was a big hit: driving to Houston from Illinois, I must have heard it 15 times! What made it was the organ backup.

  • sounds like ringo singing

  • I agree with Wurft! The organ really takes you back. I also love the guitar riffs on this song. CLASSIC!!

  • OMG, that organ realy gives me the shivers ^^

And that only happens when i hear realy good music!

  • yes song tres beaux

  • love this tune

  • This song was a favorite of John Lennon's.

  • Oh for crying out loud - I just got it. "It would do me good - to do you good". Well I got this album when I was 11 year old!! (or do I just have dirty mind?)

  • @freemantom I think "do you good" means to help out i this case :)

  • @ndem763 Yeah - I like to think of it that way :-)

  • I have the album this was on! Was a huge hit in Adelaide (South Australia) in the 70s! So much fun :-)

  • carman

  • every woman would like to hear words like that...

  • What a song!!! , still has the original on a vinyl LP. Still the best version, not to say that Elvis' version is not good - more up tempo..But ol' Billy mag maar!

  • This song is so cool!!!!!

  • All these years and I thought this was RIngo Starr doing this song. He would have done this song pretty good I think.

  • @pucksterz12 A lot of people thought that Ringo did this at the time! I wonder sometimes if Ringo has any regrets about not covering this then. You are right, tailor-made for him!

  • Roller Rink Music

  • I Love this Song

  • @Wuemic

  • @Wuemic i LOVE YOU!!!!!

  • @Wuemic I heard it in Thor too! Really great song!!!

  • This is one very likable, singalongable tune, simple, perhaps, but deceptively so,and produced with a lot of flair Flair? Well, the in & out "fade out",as the song comes to a close, was a master stroke,I reckon, demonstrating once again that clever songs deceive the listener by sounding plain or simple....Great "stuff"!!!

  • I remember when this song came out. I was a kid ;I still love it today.

  • Wow what an oldie but goodie! I remember my parents playing this song when I was a kid. Thanks for posting it!

  • Genius!
