It is basic knowledge that you should avoid a new Windows OS until the first Service Pack comes out and fixes all the critical mistakes.

I personally love XP but I only got it after SP1. The next two SPs greatly improved XP as well but I can't imagine ever using XP in its initial form.

Remember, Microsoft considers a OS ready for release when it has less than 500 bugs.

Yuck, I hate the interface from Office 2007... yeah it makes changing fonts a little easier, but then it makes you search for a 10 minutes to find other functions that they have hid deep within some random tab... though this one seems a little more straight forward only having 2 tabs.

The new calculator functions seem pretty cool though.

You should be able to do daily tasks on win 7 with only 1gb ram.

Xp: 150mb ram

Vista: 299mb

Win 7: 216mb

I guess i'll find out in a week or so whether I regret this move with the times. But ram is so cheap.

I have just recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, but there are random freezes. These are "short" freezes and only last about 12-18 seconds. Most of the time, the freezes just crash my computer. My computer meets the recommended standards for Windows 7. Any solutions?

The requirements for Windows 7 are way lower than the ones for Vista. I  just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and trust me its not just an update to Vista. 7 is way better.

Why does Windows seem like Mac? The new taskbar looks similar to Mac's. The photo program is similar to iPhoto and the Gadgets are similar to the Widgets in Mac. I'm not against Windows or Mac, just wondering why they are so similar and why Windows is "stealing" Macs stuff, just modifying and renaming the software. Am I just misinformed?

x86 is the 32 bit version and x64 is the 64 bit version. If you have a cpu that supports 64bit (all 2 core cpu's and better) then install the 64 bit. If you do not, the 32 bit will do you just fine. The only real world benefits you will see currently with a 64 bit os are related to high end gaming and high end video processing/post-processing

I do believe the system memory is also important when comparing x86 and x64 versions. If one hasn´t got at least 4 gigas of ram on the system, x64 won´t work, at least to it´s fullest. It needs a minimum of 4 gigas of ram to work properly. I haven´t experimented this yet, but for what i´ve read this is also a point :)

What was the point in changing Paint!!

... wow. aside from the snapping feature in the original, it doesn't seem like any of their "updates" should require a new operating system. All they did was take Vista and make it more Mac-ish while editing the parts that got complained about - there's no ingenuity at all. As of right now, I'm not seeing any reason to upgrade from Vista yet.
