  • Many thanks for sharing your treasured images. I was born in Hong Kong in 1951. I vaugely rememered sitting on my dad's shoulder watching a colourful parade not knowing what was it about until I was a little older when my dad told me.

  • Must have been quite an experience for you!

  • I love old Hong Kong.

My old home has a cup with the wordings of the coronatrion of QE II in 1953. The cup was given to my elder brother from his school in 1953.

  • Yes, with the older generation these dear memories still linger. The festivities were quite an event at the time.

  • So nice!

  • @lycfmtkl Actually, the cup was used for mouth cleaning with the chinese word 天佑我皇 1953

  • @ngaitom09 Yes, you are right. The cup was actually used for cleaning teeth in the morning. However it was lost in my home.

  • What a wonderful

     Classical clip..

  • This is very treasurous vintage colour footage of the coronation festival in 1953.Thanks for uploading and sharing with us.

  • I was not around in 1953. But typhoon Wendy in 1962 was really devastating.Must be hell of a job to film those footage.

  • I once read an interesting account about the coronation festivities at HK in the Hong Kong 1953 Yearbook. But watching them on the film was more fascinating. Thank you Michael.

  • i was born in this yaer.

  • as a HK young people i love the old hongkong more then the new

  • @yipharris Me too! I love British Hong Kong instead of HKSAR!

  • These uploads are really precious. I was born in 1952 and grew up in Hong Kong living in Public housing. Family of 5 lived in a unit of 120 sq.ft. Public water, sewer and bathrooms. I need to tell you all that I had a very happy childhood because of my family. Material cannot trade happiness. Thank you very much Michael!

  • WOW amazingly interesting footage!

  • Thank you michaelRogge: I always tried to remember what year the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was, the day that I was in the festival and had an itchy ass, I found out later that it was my first hemorrhoid! dancewu(dot)net

  • Thanks for uploading the video. You know what? At that time, my granny was still a teenager! She told me about the coronation festivities, but I had no idea of how it was - not until I watched the video! It sounded like a myth to me!
