  • this timing this is INSANE. I remember playing this, I remember being good at it, But I never would have considered intentionally missing for good benefits. But then again, i didn't really have a need to compete since I didn't have any online. This is SICK though, Big ups to whoever did this.

  • Dude, Holy shit!!! im good at this game, but no way am i that good. Which method do u use? the thumb,(square, triangle, circle) or the triggers L1, R1, and R2? i can beat this game on brutal but ive never been able to beat it on insane.

  • did your fingers fucking hurt?

  • HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO PLAY THAT FAST. I'M ON SLIPKNOT-I AM HATED ON INSANE,AND I CANT PLAY THAT FAST

  • hardcore :) respect WOWOW

  • damnnn

  • iI love this game and you have just re awakened the girl who wants to get calluses on her fingers!!. This was awesome thank you

  • alguien sabe como descargarlo pal pc?

  • Come on we all know Cherry Lips was the best track on this game!!!! "Loooks just like a ... Giiiirlllllll with your cherry lipsss" LOOL, this game was THE SHIT!!

  • Damn. Noticed that little miss with the bass line at the end. Good thing you had an auto blaster. I would've been so pissed off to go through all those brutal tracks. Just to get f'd over by a bass line.

  • @quixoticMoon It was an intentional miss. Note how I get more points for autoblasting the bass and playing the drum track (in that order) than any other 3-measure combination! If I play the drum track first (then autoblast the bass), that specific 2-bar drum segment is worth less points than the 2-bar drum segment 1 measure later. And, of course, freestyle is worth more than playing the song, so I finish with that.

  • I can totally understand the nervousness towards the end, man. I love the adrenaline this game gives you. I've never gotten such a rush in any other rhythm game as I have with this one. Esp this song.

  • screw rock band 4 i wanna see freqlitude!

  • dear lord this is amazing you own this game

  • Anybody as of now still have this game? Because I do along with the online part of FreQuency :D

i *dot* imgur *dot* com *slash* shYyX *dot* jpg

I just have to find another copy of FreQuency with case and manual, and a working PS2.

  • @AmpliFreQ3107 i still own this game for my ps2. and i play it all the time.

  • You are a fucking god at this game. I have beaten all the tracks on insane myself but I never got a score over 7k. Then again I never sat down for 6 hours on one song :P Congrats buddy.

  • I remember trying to beat this song. I had to create my own strategy just to beat it XD

I wish I actually did own the game though. I went to a friends house and we took turns trying to beat songs.

  • Having fun about being full of yourself? If so, good, cause Ima tell you right now, I have the game with me and there is no way in heaven or hell that's insane. So when you're done fooling everybody who hasnt played this game, why don't you play this on insane then brag. Till then, stop talking out your ass.

  • @jammastereric agreed.

  • that was the shit!!!! dude....i met the creaters of this game in person and i told them how great it was and they told me they thought that it was their personal best before making guitar hero, and that if i wanted to play something like it to get guitar hero on psp.. and i was like no... theres nothing like amplitude.. NOTHING!! sick run btw

  • Dude how can you switch tracks so fast!? I can hit the notes but I always miss the track. I feel so slow. D:

  • Alright, now let's see your high score for Slipknot or the Cosmonaut Zero insane bonus song. I haven't seen anyone get more than two bars for either of those two songs.

  • @Adema1226

"I haven't seen anyone get more than two bars for either of those two songs."

Getting three (or even four, yes, it's possible) bars isn't that hard if you used the play the game 8 hours a day like a lot of us did back in the day. This guy could three bar any song on the game.

The game only gets hard when you play the custom remixes like "You're Mine" by Squishy...and that's not even the hardest one.

I was in the top few (ranked 30s cuz drops) when it was online: I was Samdoh...

  • What i dont understand.. is why your missing things on purpose in the beginning. Is there really a set rhythm your supposed to follow in each song? Either way, incredible playing. I guess i never could get that dedicated with this game. So much better then all the popular music games out now though.

  • @DriftAnime When you play a track, it respawns something like 8 measures later, but the powerups are set in place when you choose the song from the menu. That means if you play tracks in a certain order, you can miss good powerups while the track is unavailable. My misses at the beginning are intended to stagger the "availability" of the tracks so all the good powerups 30+ measures away will line up in an optimal way. (As you can see, optimizing an Amplitude song is hard work!)

  • congrats man, i didn't think this is even possible. it really shows that perserverance pays its dues. once again, congradualations for being the best in the world, you're welcome.

  • this maid pepe hard, what does that mean?

  • This is fucking nuts. I watched those FREESTYLE/SCORE DOUBLE X8's and got chills. 160 each!! I have an Amplitude stiffy right now. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

  • I've downloaded it the few last days :D gonna burn it and play it tomorrow, Can't wait :P

  • @RunnerdamMedia It On The Playstation Network?

  • @AndreTheTruth1

Nope, And my download didn't work AAARGH!!!

So i'm gonna buy it 1 more time :D

    Only 5 euro's (A)

  • Gosh i missed this game. why did i lend it to a friend that i never see again xD

  • I will have sex with the person who played this......think of what they could do with those fingers *wink*

  • joystiq.com/2010/10/10/harmonix-talks-about-future-projects-returning-to-frequency-and/

  • so crazy!! this is my all time favorite game, you own it!

  • AMPLITUDE/FREQ IS COMING BACK FOR THE NEW GENERATION!

    joystiq.com/2010/10/10/harmonix-talks-about-future-projects-returning-to-frequency-and/

  • That was impressive

  • Never used L1 R1 R2 always used x tri squ etc. totally owned got stuck on slipknot insane though

  • I used to be fantastic at this game, and frequency. But I had never thought of capturing video, I just played to keep up my hand/eye coordination and for the music. But one thing is for sure, I can't seem to play this game much at all on my HDTV on my PS3. It's frustrating, as if they're is some inate lag in the system - yet even after months of no play, if I put it in my slim PS2 and set it up on a SDTV, I do fine. I wonder if all HDTV's are like that, does anyone else have this issue?

  • @livingxxgod Yeah, some (many) HDTVs, especially older ones, have brutal lag in them. Unfortunately there's really no fix for this. Another problem: I believe the back-compatible PS3s actually have inherent lag in them when running PS2 software. I read somewhere that it's about 4 frames of lag; people who tried to play old fighters on BC PS3s reported the same problems. I think the problem is on both your PS3 and your TV. :( Just have to play on a CRT with your PS2, I suppose.

  • @Infil No you guys are wrong. It's the wireless controller fucking everything up.

  • @livingxxgod the best fix for music games like this is to hook your speaker output from your PS directly to your soundsystem, instead of going into your TV. the video and audio will still be out of sync, but at least that way you can hit your buttons to the music

  • 90x100 is power up

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME!!!! I STILL HAVE FREQUENCY AND THIS!! I STILL PLAY THIS GAME TO THIS VERY DAY! EVER SINCE IT CAME OUT!! AND I'M STILL MAKING REMIXES LMFAO!!!!!!

  • I miss playing this game, my mom used to say it was for the mentally insane..=-p

  • Comparing this game to Guitar Hero or Rock Band would be like comparing Super Mario Galaxy 2 to ANYTHING by DDI interactive... okay, maybe not, but it's close to that!

  • uhuú

  • I still have Amplitude

  • MY EYEBALLS AAAAAAAA

  • F-ing epic. I was and still am a huge fan of this game.

Well done, those red bars used to kill me and your swtiching was slick in most places.

  • Nice use of Auto Pilot and Powerups-a-plenty cheat codes dude.

  • @ronniesmoons What cheat codes? The years I've had this game, I never knew there were cheat codes for this. Or maybe this guy is just that damn good.

  • @Gibix He is a good player, but he does cheat. He uses a computer program to work out the best path to take in the song to get the best power ups to make a high score.

  • You cheat just like SnapDragon.

  • I really want this game but I don't know where I could get it :( If anyone knows somewhere I could get it please reply to this comment.

  • This should be audiosurf. D:

  • after playing that song on normal I know that thing is 5 levels of insane. There are no words to describe how much you rock

  • You sir, are the legend among legends!

  • This game was extremely fun! Infil, you did a great job, but you make the rest of us look likes jokes lol. Great job man.

  • I remember staying up for hours and hours playing this game lol so addicting. Now im stuck playing ttr3 with my ipod touch on extreme mode..Insane score though gratz.

  • my fingers will never forget these button combinations.... i had 3 players in the top 10 for the longest time online.

    dimebag

    daniel527

    islekillyourass

my girlfriend at the time had a crazy high ranking too... icryptorchidi... but we took turns playing on her name =p

  • I've played the demo version of this game to infinty. I got it from a PS2 magazine. I might just want to play it again right now. Shame it only has 2 songs on the demo.

  • @pineapple123321

I'm sure you can find a used copy at GameStop. That's where I found my copy, and it was only $10, well worth every single penny!

  • This game looks neat. Gonna go and purchase it tomorrow :D

  • This game is Sickkkkkkkkkk

  • 1:16

    R.E.S.P.E.C.T !

  • so lucky with multiplicatos and freestylz -.-

  • @LeOPaRDll

I wouldn't say it was luck because he had to have ran this hundreds of times to finally get it down. Being able to get 4 bars on that song is hard enough, and playing the red portions so accurately on this song shows it isn't JUST luck.

  • damn that's pretty legit, i could never break 10k

  • best rank ive gotten online was rank 4

  • used to play this online (Dj Skeletion) about 6 years ago was classified as one of the best players, had a rival (Grymee)

  • God Damnit 10711 points mah best is 10691

Because mah freestyles ended 1 second before track ending

GOD DAMNIT ! I neeed to train more but i'm training more than 3 years + 2 years in freQuency

    Grawr . .

  • I was ranked number 1 female on amplitude online. Lil dreamer(Online name)

  • Comment removed

  • @kurdysj I know this guy personally and I can assure you that he's an excellent rhythm game player. I've come up against him personally in a number of tournaments. (He also told me about this recording years ago and told me in detail how he did it, I only just stumbled upon it today)

Nice one, Infil, glad I finally got to see it.

  • Amplitude is 30% skills and 70% on where the powerups are placed. I boosted my highscore up about 60% because the track had good powerups on good places.

  • Bought this yesterday. I have much respect for your skills

  • Good Job Infil Well Done. Cheers.

  • dude that's crazy! i didn't know it was possible to get THAT high of a score! now you i want to dig this game back up and play the shit outta this game!

  • sweet moves btw how did you record this in such high quality

  • seriously the most engrossing game of all time. I play for hours and love it. Is zanquance still hosting a server?

  • the fact that you play amplitude, and kick ass at it...I love you a lot..you are sexy to me..and anyone else on here that plays <333 everyone i ask here about amplitude is like "wtf is amplitude?" -_- sad times..

  • World record, but there were a few missed tracks. I know it's a fast song, but it's definitely surpassable. Wonderful job!

  • There were no missed tracks, actually. The ones I missed at the beginning actually allowed me to get a higher score. Once I started the streak, I combo the song.

This score is THE maximum possible score for this song with this powerup configuration. It's possible (very likely, actually) that there are better configs with a higher max, but... even if I give you one, you still have to find the max route through the song somehow. :)

For this reason, this record is pretty close to unbeatable.

  • To further clarify, the only way this record is beatable is if a very, very good player randomly stumbles across a powerup config considerably better than this one, and plays it to 90% of its max score (very hard to do, even if the player is good).

It's also possible the config I randomly got here actually has a very poor max score when placed against the "average" config, but we'll never know. :) If my config is actually very GOOD as far as max scores go, then this record will never be beaten.

  • This run is truly maxed (to within 100-ish points due to some squeezing problems which are not evident unless you have good understanding of Amplitude's scoring system). A tool-assisted run of a random powerup config for this song would STILL not beat this score on average. This is essentially a TAS run, but played by a human. :) I knew the perfect route with the perfect activations, and tried and tried until I played it perfectly. That's why the track switches are so hard (and so cool).

  • @Infil Yeah, I noticed that on a few songs that the player would miss some tracks on purpose. I digress.

  • Comment removed

  • fuck yeahhhhhh

  • This game is 5x better than any other platform rhythm game ever made.

  • Ha, I remember the first time I saw a really good player going for a high score, I was wondering wtf they missed easy tracks at the beginning :P Didn't take me long to figure out.

  • fuckin sick.

  • THIS IS THE BAD ASS GRANDPA OF AAALLLL MUSIC RHYTHM GAMES...(along with FreQuency

  • guitar WHO?

    this game owns. :)

  • @xXpoisonwasthecureXx I agree! This game rocks, I guess...you can say this is guitar hero's mom. ALL of the songs on here rock! one of my fav games ever.

  • I really miss playing this game online!

It was very fun while it lasted.

    Shout out to:

    Edgein(Mr. Massacre)

    K1ng

    Squishy

    Dreamer

    Spindigo

  • ah but ya cant forget me djdarkmunk :)

  • Man, I think a lot of peeps remember you. Hell you're on my YIM, Although you have not signed in for a LONG time.

  • omg silvers what up dood i use djdarkmunk2003 now i miss amplitude so much and you would be surprised on how many people don't know who munk is i play 360 now my id is djdarkmunk god kid i was like 16 when i played amp im 23 now i cant believe u did not forget me. i wanna find modo and the others

  • Haha! Good to hear from you my man! Yeah, believe it or not, many of our FreQ's still around!

Mr. Resetti has a forum up and running with some old timers (haha) there. Amplitude IS online, but being hosted via people. But I think it's down right now. Lets all unite one day and have a blast. And man, i'll never forget you. :)

  • @Silvers24

Yup, Silvers, it's been down for a longass time, man. Unfortunately, you never wanted to get on when you had the opportunity. :P

  • @EthanE3Eves It's not that I didn't want to. I did, but I just...never let myself I guess.

No excuses, I just never did. I got back into not to long ago, but late. :( You know if it will be back up soon?

  • @Silvers24 - No hard feelings, man. I just remember always messaging you and you just opted out for staying on XBL. I know how it is though, it's fine. I have no idea when the severs will be back up. I need to check if it's an issue with the DNS or not, my patched version of amp overrides the DNS so I may still be able to get on.

  • @EthanE3Eves Yeah I guess you're right. I did kinda blow it off. But shit, if the server does get back on, I am playing this time. Playing offline only is fun for so long! haha

  • While being a predecessor to both Audiosurf and Guitar Hero, you can see elements of both in Frequency and Amplitude. Games are pretty fascinating how they copy other games, create something new and original, or take something and turn it into something completely different. Both Frequency and Amplitude are such kick-ass games, and always will be. Great video of an extreme run!

  • i miss frequency and amplitude... wish they'd make another one

  • me too, i wanna play with controllers not with guitars =/

  • Agreed! If they could make it for the PC, that would be epic! Perhaps take the engine from Audiosurf so that you could use your own songs for custom tracks. Gah, that would freakin' RULE!

  • jumping 2-3 tracks and still keeps the multiplier! Crazy skills. I still love this game. It was way before its time and now that Guitar Hero and the Rock Band games are out this throw back joint gets no love. Harmonix ports the gameplay over to the Guitar Hero crap! AMPLITUDE 3 ANYONE!!!???

  • just think, this system of gameplay hasnt been used until recently until RB unplugged came out. as soon as i play it, i immediately thought of frequency and amplitude

  • this is like gutiar hero on acid I LOVE IT

  • this was made along time before guitar hero... same developers too... and before this was frequency... ah fun times.

  • No. Guitar hero sucks badly.

  • Cannot agree with you more !!

FreQuency and Amplitude are the ONLY good CONSOLE MUSIC GAMES.

All this fake pathetic shit blew up like nothing. Whatever happened to becoming a real musician, by making your own music ?? They ridicule musicians, plastic piece of shit. Hero of what a ghey ass Guitar "Hero" !?

FreQuency and Amplitude needs SO MUCH MORE RECOGNITION !! When I ran into the demo of FreQuency I COULDN'T BELIEVE FEAR FACTORY GOT IN IT !! Remixing..double bass l0l it's so sickkk

  • how do u play this lol

  • using L1, R1 and R2 usually. You can use Square, circle and x though

  • Think of Guitar Hero or Rock Band with only three notes. L1 is left, R1 is middle and R2 is the right.

Amplitude is a fucking classic. Both Guitar Hero and Rock Band are Amp's bitches.

  • Man you have serious skills bro. I barely beat the game on the 3rd difficulty and I just gave up on it. LOL its too quick for my hands.

  • do you use the x, triangle, and square buttons, or the triggers?

  • Yea I use the X, ) and Square buttons. I try to use L1 as a sub for Square but I just don't get it LOL. Still I love this game and Frequency.

  • yeah, if you do try to get the hang of it, you'll be able to beat the game a lot easier. and yeah, amplitude and frequency are my favorite music games

  • Amazing! Wonder if anybody beat my chris child score of 9545.

  • Using a similar technique of mapping paths, SnapDragon has managed a score of 12,358 on Shades of Blue. :)

  • i haven't. i still need about 800 more to match that

  • amplitude ftw for sure.. fuckk it needs to come back online im going crazy watching these vids

  • Guitar Hero needs to die already! AMPLITUDE!!!!!!! FTW!

  • You are my fucking hero bro. That was seriously impressive......I'm in aww O_O

  • this game kicks serious ass, many many many hours spent playing this game

  • x-x

    Fucking....owned....

  • I bet this game can give your children epileptic seizures

  • O.O

  • man that was amasing!! im going to go play Synthesized right now!

  • this game is sick!

  • Harmonix is gold, I loved the demo of this game. Shame on my parents who never wanted me to spend money on this type of games, they said to me that "music games weren't for me". After some months, I became one of the best DDR/ITG players of my country, ahah! But I never had the chance to play Amplitude again :(

  • how can i get this fucking song

  • Dude that was awesome! How long did it take for you to figure out that particular pattern?

  • Many hours. :) That's what makes the run so unbeatable! For this particular powerup config, this is (almost, I made one or two sliiiightly non-optimal choices just so I wouldn't go insane) the best possible score, literally. The only way this run is beatable is if someone a) gets a better powerup config than me, b) finds the optimal route through it, and c) also is able to 100% full combo this very hard song.

  • Do you play with the face buttons, or the triggers? I can't get the hang of playing with the triggers myself.

  • it's much easier with the triggers, and eventually, after a long time of playing with triggers, sometimes you can use both the triggers and face buttons to play a line

  • Yes, I play with the triggers. I occasionally use the face buttons for strange track transitions. For example, at 3:16, I transition to a red track over a few other tracks and have to play a lone left note. Since I'm already using my left hand to move left on the d-pad, I found it way more consistent to use square to hit that one lone note at the start of the track.

  • i wish i had this game its bfor guitar hero and i like this better ..... there are makin a dj hero look it up ...its a ripp off of this

  • i finally beat this song on insane!!! so happy

  • Man i love this game

  • AMAZING JOB

still one of my favorite if not favorite music games ever

  • Dude! you're making me trip balls. I played frequency a lot back in the day. I gotta pick up this game. Looks so fucking gnarly to play stoned.

  • fuck

  • I still think this is one of the most underrated ps2 games that was ever released. still one of the best beat games of all time in my book.

  • that is FUCKING awesome.

  • Not to start a flame war, but are you sure this is a Full Combo? At 20 seconds, I can see you miss the vocal track once, then switch to the yellow and miss again before starting up on another long combo.

  • Well, those tracks were missed intentionally in order to line up some later powerups. It's a FC in the sense that once I decide to build up to 8x, I don't miss again. Intentionally missing a bit in the few first tracks (easy ones at that) was just necessary to maximize my score.

  • I thought at first that you messed up, but when I saw you keep that combo to the end, I knew you must have done it on purpose. Lining up the combos... that is elite yo.

  • Can you please explain this again? I <3 Amplitude and I'd love to be able to do this.

  • when i had this game i was beast. i could beat any level in any difficulty

  • Rock Band: Unplugged for the PSP is awesome, makes me wish I had hunted down a copy of this game back in the day but I stupidly avoided it because it didn't have music from some of my favorite bands. Got a chance to try it at a friend's house a few days ago. Great stuff. Harmonix doesn't get nearly the recognition they deserve.

  • im about to buy this game on ebay. How do you play it though?

  • You use the buttons to hit the little round things that come up. It's really cool. Plus, you get to switch to any instrument you want.

  • The same company made this and Guitar Hero / Rockband.

    Also Frequency & Karaoke Revolution.

    Harmonix rules.

  • i know dude haha i had the demo for ps it was like one game with like 5 demos on it and i remember playin this ....guitar hero ripped off amplitude foreaaaaaaalllllll

  • do u know were to but amplitude? cause i only have demo and i know its really really awsome sp please tell me!

  • try gamestop

    eb games

or you can buy it on amazon

  • trippiest game ever.

  • The new Rock Band for PSP is truly a spiritual sucessor to this awesome game...

  • Yes, and it rocks my socks off....

    *giggle*

  • Woah, how did he get so many Styler powerups?

  • nah u just wack bum

  • You know you can still play this game online in Europe

  • are you sure this is on insane? it really doesn't look as hard as it should be on insane.. also how come you keep missing lol, how is this the world record??

  • the missing was intentional to set the tracks up for the higher multiplier riffs. so yeah, that's exactly the reason it's a record

  • hmm.. seems like lies.

  • lol, look closely, he does it mostly so he can get the score doublers and freestyles

  • yeah you have no idea what you're talking about lol

this is definitely insane mode, the sensitivity of each note is way higher than even gh 1 so it's harder than it looks

the missing set him up for the multipliers and items.

  • i dont understand how you play

  • is amplitude better than frequency? it looks a heck of a lot harder.

  • ffs, anyone know of a game like it for pc. :( i've been fucking looking everywhere for it.

  • i remember seeing something like this on steam about 12 months ago

  • remember what it was called :s I've been on look-out for a year now. I'm almost given up

  • ok, i think i found what i saw, it's called AudioSurf, it looks like it may not be 100% the same, but yeah, i hope i helped

  • damn, i know that game. kinda gay.

Amplitude pawns it up the ass, but yeah. thanks for trying anyways.

think ima have to buy an old ps2 just to play that game :(

  • if you have a homebrew capable wii, you could check out "supersonic Wii" same gameplay, but not as flashy
