As far as Japan goes, I've been there, and they're doing pretty good. Japan is the third largest economy in the world, and it's people work harder and live longer than Americans. And it also has socialized medicine. And it works. The Japanese are also incredibly efficient. But obviously, as your comment shows, you don't know much about Japan, either.

They live longer, are less likely to be poor (if they are poor, they are more likely able to afford basic necessities). They have better health care for which their countries pay less. I believe in most everything he says, but he never says it with the passion of a guy like Kucinich.

Uh, that's Germany with the high unemployment, and that may have less to do with socialism than with our industrial system. Our gasoline prices don't need to be low because we don't have to use our cars so much. And our medical system happens to be ecellent: We spend less on it than Americans, but never have to worry about bankruptcy due to medical bills, and we do generally live longer, which must count for something.

As far as Japan goes, I've been there, and they're doing pretty good. Japan is the third largest economy in the world, and it's people work harder and live longer than Americans. Comparing the US to the richest countries, this one has the highest rate of unemployment, uninsured, and homeless. You can't have it both ways...being the richest/poorest at the same time. The government's selling out Americans to the corporate plantation. The US needs more government to protect the people from sophisticated criminals. CEOs who leave companies for broke, and with ridiculous salaries, should be targeted. Capitalism only benefits white-collar criminals, not the people as a whole.

Oh, my hard data collected and published by the CIA is too vague? Then let me put it to you this way: People in at least 10 developed countries are better off than Americans. They live longer, are less likely to be poor (if they are poor, they are more likely able to afford basic necessities). They have better health care for which their countries pay less. They have greater social mobility, ie. are more likely to make die richer than they were born.

Second, I remember this little anecdote: Max Planck, the one of the greatest German scientists went to talk to Hitler to basically ask him to not persecute Jewish scientists like Einstein and Max Born, since they were doing such a great service to Germany.

It demands that American-built products compete in price with near-slave and child labor from overseas and even encourages that American labor force be replaced by foreign labor just for the sake of baiting in suckers for cheap items. I could name numerous things today that are wrong, including the building up of the military complex. When it comes to prosperity of all Americans in general, the 50's were the best time in America. If today's society had kept up the trendm, as far as people's wages/salaries from back then, people would have been better off today, and there would be less poverty.

What to say... AIDS wasn't touching the US until the early 80s, and it was Reagan's inaction on the subject that may have made AIDS such a big problem.
