@Willt41 tbh, the stands seem to be an evolution of the ripple. considering all the wackyness that created them. but since Joseph's stand ist particularly mobile he probably still uses his ripple fighting techniques transmitted through Hermit Purple.

Hamon is the japanese word for "Ripple"; so I don't think we can actually callit that way when it has it's own name: Sendo. This is the proper name that should be used.

Phantom blood takes place in Britain in the 19th century with Jonathan fighting Dio.

Battle Tendency takes place in South America in 1938-1939 and  with Joseph fighting the creators of the stone mask.

Stardust Crusaders has Jotaro traveling from Asia to Egypt to kill the vampire Dio so he can save his mother's life.

That being said, the re-translation is certainly awesome and made me like Part 4 a lot more.

As far as I know Araki did not want to see this movie released on DVD, because of the Speed Wagon issue. The producers of the movie wanted to change his name because the feared trouble with copyrights (Speed Wagon is the name of a rockband and it' can be a big hassle to get the approval from bands and the like to use their names in a movie).

So they left him out and Araki was so pissed off that he did not approve the release of this movie outside of the theaters (he insists that everything is as faithul to his original work as possible).

Dont' get me wrong, I love the concept of Stands and all, and the Hamon of Part I and II was just freaking awesome too but, I kinda have to agree Tsukasamacleod; it was just TOO diferent for it too continue on the same series. It would have been better if Araki just have use the Stands in other series and all. In one way or another, he would still have fucking gold in his hands.

It wasn't the same. Don't get me wrong, I like stands, and I'm still a fan of the entire series. But I just loved the original setting so much better. P2 continued where the original left off, and Joseph's personality and traits was the best. Plus, the artwork was so much better. I frankly think that they should have either: Spun off completely into a new series where the stands exist, or kept the hamon and continued, I wanted to know where the pillar men came from!

Well, imagine Araki had used Hamon in every Part of the manga. It would have been pretty monotonous because with Hamon you have not that many possibilities to make the fights interesting in the long run. With the stands Araki created a huge leeway for countless ideas to make the fights varied and exciting and he used it well.

i 90% agree with you there. stands definitely lay out a far more flexible plot device than the ripple ever did, though the ripple wasn't without it's original techniques... just look at caeser zeppeli's soap cutters or joseph's flexible use of the ripple in battle tendency.

I actually hear the movie was severely panned by most movie goers and critics for several small reasons. It cuts out major plot elements and cuts out some important plot characters like Speedwagon entirely. Also, some small animation problems in the actual movie here and there.

I'm just saying, as cool as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is, I wouldn't get your hopes up if even the Japanese didn't like it.

Hmmmm, you do present a very nice point there. Kira is awesome as hell. Although I kinda prefer the other main villains a lot more, but that's just me :P

Still, despite how awesome part 4 is, the scanlations are ATROCIOUS. I had to re-read most of the stuff they said RIGHT after reading it, just to try to make sense out of it... sure, it gets better after 6 volumes I think, but it's still bad. :( Shame. Luckily it's being re-scanlated, YAY.

Not an ounce of a chance. One of the reasons is that even though viz has the liscence for Jojo they just gave up on the manga. And no other big name companies seem to show any interest in saving jojo in america so yeah american jojo fans will never be pleased until somehow some company sees the potential in jojo.
