I dont know where to stand on this issue. I own a recording studio; a vintage, expensive to maintain, but reasonable studio. Tape costs 150 dollars per roll and I usually use about 10 rolls per session. The musicians cost about 5000 per session to record and a lot of extras like lodging, food, and other services all have to be paid for somehow. I OWN the recording I worked so hard to create. I OWN the recording it took three years of work to find the right band. Now what?
Take your cool analog recording and have it pressed on good solid vinyl. Now you have a representation of what happened in your studio that's a lot warmer and better-sounding than any MP3 file. Put together some good art and clever liner notes, and you have a product worth buying.
The other angle for studios is to get a piece of the publishing rights to the music, so you can make $ from its use.
@analyzingfunny you don't need analog equipment in order to make good recordings. Digital works better, A laptop should be more than you need in terms of equipment. the microphones you might need a good one, and a keyboard but all this software on the pc does just as good if not better than all those 30 thousand dollar switch boards.
@tehatemachine I have one sentence that will shut you up about your cheap, tinny sounding digital: "At the current rate of computer advancement, it will STILL be 25 years before digital can hold MORE information that tape. You just have not heard the subtle differences.
@analyzingfunny digital DOES hold more information than tape does. That's why it has a higher resolution Moron. Therefore Digital > analog, Especially with the signal in general. Far cleaner and more crisp. Go buy a fucking rig with a 3TB HDD with a powerful processor and quit wasting money.
Sounds like the RIAA are crooks (even worse) themselves-I felt sorry for that single mom. I remember that case. However-I never believed in file sharing programs-it's a good way to get viruses and crap and tons of spyware on one's computer.
Thank god a few people in this world have common sense

Hi @analyzingfunny, thanks for being in touch.
My answer to your question, "Now what?" is this:
