Its bound to happen to just about anybody at how much where on the road no mater how safe you are because somebody will always cut you off, pull out in front of you or run up under you when your turning. Everybody should be made to at lest ride in a truck a week before they get there class D. Its amazing a poll taken 3 years ago, 71% think a truck can stop faster because the weight and more tires. Sure they have 4X as many tires as a car but 26X the weight to stop

If you took a standard 1/64 scale hotwheels car and could scale the weight the same way (assuming its about 3,700lb in real life) it would be about 59.4 pounds. If you did the same for a 1/64 scale tractor trailer (assuming 80,000 lb fully loaded real life). That little 1.09 foot long toy truck would be 1250 pounds. It would take 3 of those little toy trucks to equal the weight of a modern full size car

All these men and women go out there and make their living by hauling our needs. Some people don't give a damn about truckers. My dad got in a huge ass crash because a car cut in front of him during the winter season. He crossed 4 lanes of traffic and almost rolled his truck. No one stopped to see if he was fine they all just kept going. So stop cutting of trucks and drive safe.
its really sad, to see all this but its reality i am a truckers wife, and i pray to god every day for my husband and for all those drivers closed to him, because many times people don't understand how hard its to stop a big truck.
Very hard to stop with all the weight. But as always I (We) still get cut off from a mother/dad trying to get some where fast. Sometimes they don't return home because of those two factors. We have to live with the matter and also find another job. Just because they were in a hurry.
If everyday passengers would learn how to drive, then accidents like these would lessen dramatically!! I'm not saying every truck driver is perfect at driving however... I was waiting to make a left hand turn, looked in my rear view, saw him jackknifed headed straight at me, and even though I tried to avoid it, he hit me. Damage was bad enough to total my car, and I have physical therapy three times a week for at least a month. It could have been way worse. No matter where you are a semi can harm you. Drive safe.

Recently a 16 year old in my town with daddy's new spyder decided to cut off a dump truck. She was the Chief of Police's daughter and helicopter footage showed the tiny sports car with the dump truck's front wheel completely imbedded into the driver's seat... we need to have more people educating young people about physics and exactly what that 'toy' they are driving is made of, and what happens when it collides with another object at 80+ MPH. 'Porsche Girl' is another good example.

Most of these accidents are the fault of these truck drivers. I had two rigs fly by me on a 3 laned highway, racing, they had to be going well over 80mph. The one changed lanes to get around a car, and in doing so ran another car off the road. Both rigs kept on going. Another driver of a rig ran a stop sign and hit my Aunt. Investigators found out that this guy was driving on a suspended license. Those are just two incidents, I know of more.
@Ultraplast1978 You are right. A lot of these drivers are careless with the way they drive. Police should be made to enforce trucking regulations like the speed limit, always drive in the right lane, etc. There is no reason for so many big rig accidents to occur.
@mcaval6 there have been studies of all the accidents involving big rigs 75% were the fault of the 4 wheeler much like yourself. who probably cuts over 3 lanes of traffic and hits the brakes in front of the truck just so you dont miss your exit. Yes there are some bad apples but most of us dont drive like that.
@mcaval6 Actually I am a commercial driver I know the bulk of the laws and actually I would advise you to read the CDL reg book before you say that. As the drivers are 110% responsible legally for the vehicle and what is going on around it at ALL times. stopped, moving forward, and backing...

@Ultraplast1978 Driving in the right lane is not always an option as too often you get a slow moving car or truck then pass then you realize that the on ramps are going to all have to come right to you sooner or later. really the middle and fast lanes are the best. and also a lot of truckers are paid by the mile and are running on tight schedules. We don't make up time when we are in town because of Traffic and Traffic lights ETC... however we can only make up so much on the freeway.
@alexfo7o Most everyone is on a tight schedule, but that does not excuse reckless driving. My father is a truck driver and I have ridden with him many times, so I know what kind of schedule drivers have, the stop checks, and all that. But in the end, safety is always first.

@InnocentyInsane It's a great way to make some money if you can handle living out of your truck. I did that for 5 years and banked just about everything I made. Also the tax benefits are great, for every day you're on the road you get a nice write off, was about $40-50 last time I did it, don't know what it is now. Got to see places I would never have seen otherwise. It can get a little monotonous and lonely, but there are ways to deal with that. Team driving can be fun. I'm glad I did it.

Driving a truck is a daily risk in wich is a daily task. Driving a large vehicle is a challenge, and attention if fully required, and watching out for others neglect driving. I have seen more than my share of these unfortunate incidents for 15 years driving a truck.
i think the real drivers out there are owner operators and small companys not all but most of them are damn good drivers and really incredible people to talk to and most would give you the shirt right off there back i know i would for most of them but for some reason big fleets and teamsters like to call us scabs and say were the reason that trucking is on the skids but if you look its mostly fleet trucks in these videos and the guys that push to hard or just shouldnt have been behind the wheel

As the mom of a trucker, I always worry about the drivers who are in such a big hurry to get around a semi that they don't seem to care or understand that the semi is 10 times their size and takes 10 times as long to stop or get out of the way of the danger these drivers are creating. My father was a trucker, the only accident he was in was because a teenager was high and decided that right on the down side of a hill was the best place to park and reload his pipe. @dwzmom I'm a teen driver, I drive safe and always behind somebody at a good distance. I drive a motorcycle, and I make sure truckers can see me if i'm behind one. It isn't just teens. it's females who have a million things to do, it's males who get horny for speed, it's chinese that don't understand blinkers.

According to D.O.T studies most car/truck crashes are the fault of the auto driver, after 3 decades of trucking coast to coast, i have no doubt. Highway safety will NEVER improve untill ALL drivers are held to a higher standard. Car drivers are regularly high on drugs, alcohol or unlicensed. It is way too damn easy to get a drivers license. Tough standards for all, that way the roads will be safe and mostly empty.

My dad got in a huge ass crash because a car cut in front of him during the winter season. He crossed 4 lanes of traffic and almost rolled his truck. No one stopped to see if he was fine they all just kept going. So stop cutting of trucks and drive safe.

If everyday passengers would learn how to drive, then accidents like these would lessen dramatically!! I'm not saying every truck driver is perfect at driving however... You have just as many bad truck (and i mean rude, not bad drivers) drivers as you do pedesrtian drivers. I had a truck driver flip me off as my step-dad passed my him. I was waiting to make a left hand turn, looked in my rear view, saw him jackknifed headed straight at me, and even though I tried to avoid it, he hit me. Damage was bad enough to total my car, and I have physical therapy three times a week for at least a month. It could have been way worse. No matter where you are a semi can harm you. Drive safe.

Recently a 16 year old in my town with daddy's new spyder decided to cut off a dump truck. She was the Chief of Police's daughter and helicopter footage showed the tiny sports car with the dump truck's front wheel completely imbedded into the driver's seat... we need to have more people educating young people about physics and exactly what that 'toy' they are driving is made of, and what happens when it collides with another object at 80+ MPH. 'Porsche Girl' is another good example.

Most of these accidents are the fault of these truck drivers. I had two rigs fly by me on a 3 laned highway, racing, they had to be going well over 80mph. The one changed lanes to get around a car, and in doing so ran another car off the road. Both rigs kept on going. Another driver of a rig ran a stop sign and hit my Aunt. Investigators found out that this guy was driving on a suspended license. Those are just two incidents, I know of more.

@Ultraplast1978 You are right. A lot of these drivers are careless with the way they drive. Police should be made to enforce trucking regulations like the speed limit, always drive in the right lane, etc. There is no reason for so many big rig accidents to occur.

@mcaval6 there have been studies of all the accidents involving big rigs 75% were the fault of the 4 wheeler much like yourself. who probably cuts over 3 lanes of traffic and hits the brakes in front of the truck just so you dont miss your exit. Yes there are some bad apples but most of us dont drive like that.

@Ultraplast1978 Driving in the right lane is not always an option as too often you get a slow moving car or truck then pass then you realize that the on ramps are going to all have to come right to you sooner or later. really the middle and fast lanes are the best. and also a lot of truckers are paid by the mile and are running on tight schedules. We don't make up time when we are in town because of Traffic and Traffic lights ETC... however we can only make up so much on the freeway.

@InnocentyInsane It's a great way to make some money if you can handle living out of your truck. I did that for 5 years and banked just about everything I made. Also the tax benefits are great, for every day you're on the road you get a nice write off, was about $40-50 last time I did it, don't know what it is now. Got to see places I would never have seen otherwise. It can get a little monotonous and lonely, but there are ways to deal with that. Team driving can be fun. I'm glad I did it.

Driving a truck is a daily risk in wich is a daily task. Driving a large vehicle is a challenge, and attention if fully required, and watching out for others neglect driving. I have seen more than my share of these unfortunate incidents for 15 years driving a truck.

He was a driver trainer. the student fell a sleep and went off the road to hit a pole. The student was fine, but my friend was not so lucky. This was a major wake up call. My father was a trucker, the only accident he was in was because a teenager was high and decided that right on the down side of a hill was the best place to park and reload his pipe. Causing a 8 vehicle pile up and since the state it was in was a fault state. The people who hit the dumb ass were ticketed too. I hate teen drivers.

According to D.O.T studies most car/truck crashes are the fault of the auto driver, after 3 decades of trucking coast to coast, i have no doubt. Highway safety will NEVER improve untill ALL drivers are held to a higher standard. Car drivers are regularly high on drugs, alcohol or unlicensed. It is way too damn easy to get a drivers license. Tough standards for all, that way the roads will be safe and mostly empty.
