this episode is from October 13, 1957. Maxwell only appeared on the show as a mystery guest twice, in 1950 and in 1957. She was a guest panelist on April 15, 1956.
Ooh, I just caught this foul bird's Mike Wallace interview (see it and many other Mike Wallace interviews including Bennett Cerf!! at University of Texas site) and she is one self-important, noxious witch. She would definitely seem to be deserving of a plateful of nasty porridge right into her evil kisser.
I find most amusing Elsa's weekly visits to Tonight / Jack Paar Show to wickedly dish the gossip. She described herself as "a short, fat, homely piano player from Keokuk, Iowa, with no money or background, [who] decided to become a legend and did just that." Wikipedia describes her as an "American gossip columnist, author, song writer, and professional hostess. Her parties for royalty and high society figures of her day earned her the nickname "the hostess with the mostest".
Can you say chutzpah? Mike Todd convinced CBS to broadcast his PR stunt "Around the World in 80 Days First Anniversary Party" as if it were a real news event. Todd convinced CBS to pay for it! That anniversary broadcast was, by conservative estimate, the worst piece of television of its year, if not decade.
Todd uses WML for PR, too.
Mr. Todd appears in a number of WML YouTube clips. If anyone out there likes him, let me know will you. As for me, his personality karma makes my teeth ache.
The classical definition of chutzpah: The child who murders his mother and father and then pleads before the judge to be let off because he's an orphan.
check out david niven's book 'bring on the empty horses'-he describes that around world party in great detail--and there's an earl wilson book too that does the same(the show business nobody knows)
